man the game really just lets you have a +2 bloodhound fang before margit
if you really want to run around the world, you can have a +9 somber weapon before any bosses. it's silly
Just looked up where the 8 and 9 are. That should make the run I'm on a bit easier. I'm doing a run where I only defeat the minimum number of bosses required to progress(without glitches). Been gearing up for the first boss, Radahn, but leveling is slow without the runes from bosses. A +9 Ghiza Wheel should help.

[*] There's a zip glitch that can be achieved by releasing a guard at the exact right frame. It has something to do with the animation very briefly having your character's vertical location in a slightly wrong place. Release the guard at the perfect frame, and that error will screw up your character's velocity calculations to the point of launching you super far.

there's a free and a "basically" free early bump you can get in souls
in caelid
giant dragon in dragonbarrow that doesn't fight back will give you 70k souls. has a ton of health but grab an early bleed weapon to make it manageable.
the other one north of that on the lower north caelid bridge (not the one with the dragon guard) nightwatch can be made to fall off a cliff on the northeast side of the bridge(also getting you early bloodhound step ashes of war)

How the fuck do people find shit like this?
More than likely someone did it by accident once, had the video of it, and speedrunners dissected the crap out of it
A month ago, Distortion2 posted this video about the glitch, asking for help in figuring out how to reproduce it. I guess people gradually got better at reproducing it and someone also did some debugging to figure out exactly what is going on in the code. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ep4Fokhzeuw

The first one is a good call, but I think the second is off-limits, since it has a boss health bar.

they need to start adding a 'Beat The Game' option which immediately beats the game and goes to credits to the main menu of every new game to one up the speedrunners

There's a glitch with that merhod, for anyone who doesn't care and wants the runes from early, safe farming:
The second it starts to die, get on Torrent and ride back to the Grace. You can rest before it "finishes" dying, so it'll respawn, but you'll still get the runes.
It's not the fastest way to farm, so not really worth spending real time on, but it can work as a totally safe & very early farm.

I've never ever done the online component of any From game before, I've always played in offline mode because even just the NPC invasions are a pain in the ass in other games. So finding out how safe this game is, relatively speaking, I decided to use the golden effigy a few times in Limgrave; I was around level 45-50 when I did it, so I had the feeling I was getting pulled into people's worlds that were also near that, but that's not important to what I'm happy about. I got pulled in to a world with one other co-op person and we ran to a catacombs boss and kicked its ass nigh-instantly, and then the other folks did this "ring" emote. I have no idea where they got it, but after I returned to my world, I got it as well! I felt like that was pretty cool.
About the only issue I have playing the game is the load game stutter the PC version has, where the game is trying to load (too many?) assets at a time and it chugs once, and then just a second after that. I've only had it happen twice in combat, and it hasn't gotten me killed (yet) but it would be really nice if From addressed that issue. Though god knows, it's probably buried in the underpinning code that runs the whole thing with their luck.

You'll get over 100K with the first method if you use a pickled fowl foot or whatever it's called.
Funny to see the Fortissax achievement is rarer than the Malenia achievement on Steam, presumably because he's a pain to find.
It's difficult to even know he exists, too.
Farum Azula / near end game spoiler
I knew about him but I ended up fighting Maliketh first and then was super confused as it seemed there was nothing left for me to do in Farum Azula.
I also don't remember reading anything about him in-game at all. Like I'm sure there's stuff about him but it either didn't pierce the dome or I never got the items/spells that would have told me about him.

Fortissax is actually the one associated with Fia's questline, though the one you're talking about is the rarest boss achievement for probably in part for the reasons you mentioned.
any recs for a straight dex weapon to tool around with for a while besides claws? not gonna spec arcane until i get a proper arcane scaling weapon. the low level stones are low stakes, so i'm okay dumping them into something short term that might be more fun than good.

there's a twinblade really close to the start? I haven't used it but I assume that style of weapon might be cool
the weeping peninsula
nightguard drops a 3 headed flail that I think is a dex weapon too?

So, I changed up my greatsword character because I don't much enjoy using the DMGS beam spam and it's sort of finicky to keep competitive with top tier weapons, since it's reliant on its self-buff. So I switched to a strength build with 25 faith for Golden Vow and Ordovis's Greatsword, which is the strongest unbuffed greatsword by a healthy margin even accounting for split-damage unless your enemy is resisting holy. I'll probably use Blasphemous or Iron Greatsword or both as my backup depending on which I like more once I get hands on.
I was worried about my fashion, but if anything I'm looking better now. (all gear I'm wearing available pre-Capital)
I still haven't seen a colossal weapon that doesn't look stupid, but I'll allow a stupid-exception for Ghiza's Wheel because it's just so hilariously fun to use and at +9 it makes things just melt.

Now you just have to make it to New Game+ so you can go Double Pizza Cutter.

I'm up to 145 rune arcs, helping folks as I work through Mt. Gelmir (haven't really touched Atlus) and decide I want to complete the assignments before the boss and completing Rya's quest. I have never farmed up a single level - outside of that one Night Cavalry cheese and the Caelid dragon - so I have to go to the capital, and I remember fighting this guy on my caster and being all kinds of annoyed, but maybe level 131 is too high for the Capital.

So what do you think encouraged those candelabra trees with the ghosts and the statues that lead to hidden caves and catacombs and the like? I think they're a great way to hide areas away but give the players world related ways to find more hidden areas. I'm just wondering if we think they were in the game at the start, or if playtesting showed that people kept missing the more hidden areas.

Elden Lord.
Also @Elendil I've mentioned these before, but if/when you go arcane - Spiked Clubs. Occult scaling gives them an A in Arcane scaling, and they have native bleed, so they get the benefit of Arcane scaling increasing their native bleed. Really, really strong option

The academy proper, or on the way up from the township? Because if it's the latter there's a sending gate in the lake that'll let you skip that.

I don't even try to cheat/glitch games but I've played them long enough to notice certain things that can be used to glitch/cheat them. Game geometry and animations are pretty complex these days, so there's almost always some kinda exploits to be found if you just know what to look for. Further, Elden Ring has lifted a bunch of stuff from prior games, which certainly accelerates researching bugs/glitches.
And if you've got tools to pry open the game code as you play, finding exploits gets even easier.
I just upgraded the spear to +8, plonked my summon sign outside Rykard's room and got like 3 levels off helping folks beat him over the last few hours. Never waited more than forty-five seconds. One guy summoned me 3 times and could never survive phase 1, poor fella. Just stood in the lava every time, but kept putting on heavier armor.
I figured I'd keep doing it until I hit 60 str - kinda fortuitous that all my str buffs the weapon - and at my level (128) I'm pretty sure I'm being summoned into NG and NG+ fights against him, just based off how much damage the weapon does.
Now, to kill him for myself, finish Rya's quest and head off for... I guess Atlus Plateau and the area around the capital is next. But given that I had to unlock the mountaintop to finish the Manor quest, maybe I should go get the smithing bell... hmmm I think I shall...

I literally just learned this evening that the weapon art has a second move. I always just thought it sucked for damage.
