alright i got the godslayer, and before putting a single stone in it i used it to absolutely bully the fuck out of the blackflame monk by the grace in the tower
Took my straight sword character and got some cool eyes and scars. Have an appointment with a needle now.

there's nothing acknowledging you jumping through all the hoops necessary to keep Melina from burning (again, I guess) without becoming Lord of Chaos.
Some things cant be forgiven also it does acknowledge it. Your only worth to her now is whether or not she needs to kill you. Otherwise she doesnt give a damn about you anymore.

You maybe already know this, but I didn't realize it until a fair ways in, so just in case... You can sort your inventory in order of acquisition, newest items on top. And when you pick up an item, it has an icon that tells you what category it goes in.
I wasn't aware of sorting your inventory that way, so that's good to know. However, it's easy to forget what category everything is when you get a couple dozen items between checks. A little glowing outline or something for unchecked items would be nice is all I'm saying. It's not a huge issue, one way or the other.
Anyway, Day 7 of my stupid meanderings.
I finished up the Soifa (sp/) river area today, grabbing the other half or so of the cairns I needed to light up and fighting land octopi, poison/laser flowers, more ghost minotaurs, packs of rats, and more! And by fight I mean "get killed by at least a couple of times." But still, the lights are lit and the path is clear to the Hornhallowed Ground.
This is probably my favorite boss in the game so far. Just looks so cool, tons of impressive attacks, probably important lore-wise as Torrent's great grandparent of some sort, and it takes place in a really pretty battlefield. My summon ashes are pretty useless in the battle, though. The fight itself was reminiscent of Sif and the like, but after the developers figured out the obvious tricks to that sort of fight. Oh, trying to sneak under or behind the big quadrupedal boss, huh? I guess you forgot about the FIRE! Or it bucking the area behind it. Or just body slamming on top of you.
Fortunately, my endurance is high enough that I could stamina tank its multi-jumping dive attacks and counter back, so I'm able to finish the critter off in relatively short notice, getting a new summon, a couple of levels, and a trophchievement for my troubles. I found the exit elevator a little later and ended up in Overlevel Land again, or "Caiden" as I think it's called. I managed to kill a few enemies before bailing, but some odd balance issues there. Why was one giant with exploding arrows 8K runes, but an even harder giant with exploding arrows AND lava breath only like 1K? Weird.
Anyway, I still didn't finish the Mirkwood area, so I teleported back and found the church that lets me make poorly-spelled elixirs. I traveled North from there, dying only occasionally from stupid falls, and took out a few of the Turbobears on the way, once with the help of an entire pack of wolves!
With Lindgrave mostly dealt with for now, I went back to the South. Sadly, when I went back to Irina to continue her Letter to Dad subquest, she was already killed somehow. My fault for faffing about in Stormveil for so long? Hard to say. Either way, I avenged her by killing all the monsters in the nearby caravan massacre site. Except for the resting troll. Poor thing was just a beast of burden to these people. It didn't want to attack me, so I left it alone to finish its break.
I started the hilariously named Morne Castle, which I appear to be pretty overleveled for, as my summon ash buddy and I tore through the entire first half or so. Then I had to do the beam balance thing to get to a floor and was immediately torn apart by rats, so I decided this was a good time to call it for the evening.
Oh, one last thing I did. I ran into some noble twit named Haight or something? He asked me to clear out his fort for him, and I did that hours ago, so it was an easy job for me. He offered to knight me, but I haven't decided if I was going to head over there and take him up on the offer yet. I appreciate his policy of diplomacy with the Demihumans, though. Not sure how he's going to pull that one off.

Re Caelid.
Both giants are worth the same I believe. Your 8k was due to a mechanic in the game that can raise the rewards of random monsters. If you kill it again itll be worth less. They also can both breathe fire.

Monsters with glowing yellow eyes are tougher, more aggressive and worth more runes. I think it's just 100% random whether a monster has this attribute. Bloodborne had a somewhat similar system, but there it was the monster that killed you previously might suck up your blood echoes and become stronger. I don't think Elden Ring follows this, or at least, I haven't noticed this.
There are also monsters with glowing red eyes, these seem to be fixed in place though, and can just be thought of more dangerous variants of the normal version.
I've noticed that yellow eyed monsters give 5x the runes, but I haven't noticed that they're any tougher than their normal colleagues. I've just thought of them as a nice bonus.

I love these YouTube videos where people are like "GUYS THIS WEAPON/BUILD IS SO OP!" and they don't bother to mention they are level 700.
I really like the Fextralife build videos. Whatever sketchy shit goes on in the wiki is not representative of the work that fella does to make videos, and they're 100% recommended.
While I didn't find the Elden Beast terrible (honestly, it was Radagon draining my resources that got me 90% of the time), I will say that it wasn't exactly the most satisfying end boss for the story being told.
If we needed a final boss with a major mode shift between phases, I think I would've much preferred Marika, and then Radagon. Or vice versa. Really lean into that reveal that they're one and the same. I could see Marika having many of the same attacks as the Elden Beast, including the Elden Ring-shaped closing explosion, and the star shower. Hell, if you wanted the beast, have it be a familiar summoned as a big final phase attack for Marika.
The difference between them would probably be that Radagon is going to smash the hell out of you with the hammer, and Marika is going to make the world explode with magic.

There's a simple problem with your proposal, lore spoiler:
Marika is like 100% responsible for you being there. Your entire adventure is basically the culmination of her plan. She's been resurrecting you constantly throughout the game (Remember the Stakes of Marika?). She called you back to the Lands Between. Ostensibly she banished you in the first place so you could get stronger and whoop everyone's ass when she brought you back. She's been warring with Radagon internally this entire time. Radagon tried stopping her from shattering the Elden Ring, and after she did, tried fixing it ASAP.
Basically she eventually figured out that the Golden Order wasn't all it was cracked up to be and that The Greater Will might not be a 100% benevolent deity and there was only one way to unshackle the world from its grip: You. She sends Melina specifically to find you.
So she ain't gonna fight you. You're the one she chose to save everyone.
That being said, we absolutely needed a better/different boss.

That's a fair point. Though, a fight against Marika could be explained by some force controlling her. We sorta got that with Radagon piloting their shared body and the Elden Beast turning Radagon into a sword. If it was instead a force related to the Greater Will puppeteering Marika (like, a ghostly Elden Beast "pulling" her from the background), that could work as a fight with "Marika" that still has the implications of beating the hell out of the force trying to control everyone with the Order.
It would also still fit the reveal that Marika wanted Hewg to make a weapon strong enough to kill a god.

Character was level 230.
The worst part about most of those videos is either the leveling you mentioned, it requiring the ability to do an advanced technique like parrying, or it has a 12 minute buff ritual before killing each enemy.
Last night I did some duels at Raya Lucaria and made use of Law of Regression. I had one guy actually quit when I used it.

I love those! Great detail, so far he's been capping them out at Level 150 which feels like a "sweet spot" for me balancing health, damage, and still making actual decisions and difficult choices.
I like them, but I almost need a guide to the guides, because it's confusing to see approximately 1,000 "spellblade" guides, and a guide to the warrior of flame and darkness.
Also, disappointed that I think he has zero shield based guides that aren't faith builds. Are strength shield builds not a thing?

this should definitely be okay for godslayer GS and prob any faith somber weapon really
