Fought Radahn for the first time and he pushed my shit in pretty thoroughly. Fucking ouch.
This is going to be a real test of if the game can finally make me use summons for a boss fight for the first time.
Bare minimum, you have to summon Patches, that entertaining piece of shit. Should be a little ways in front of where you spawn in from the teleporter.
Yeah, this really feels like the first From boss where they were like "no, you really need to use this" since it feels like it was designed to give you a small army at your disposal even though I can see how you could still solo it. I feel like I could have eventually but since its such a unique encounter, I just said to hell with it and broke my no summoning rule. Pretty fun fight.
Radahn's horse's suffering is legendary, even in hell. My god, that thing's back.
There's a fun bit of lore about that. Radahn learned gravity magic specifically so he could keep riding on his horse. So for the horse, Radahn is probably as light as a feather. Or at least no heavier than a normal rider.
Of course, the horse is driven mad with Scarlet Rot, but still.
You know what? Nanowrimo's cancelled on account of the world is stupid.
This weekend in my ER run Niall continued to show being top of my list for unfavorite encounters. Just dislike it from the top down heh.
My last encounter with him went as follows:
I summon my Mimic, we both immediately douse both of guards and Niall with Ekzykes dragon breath, murdering both of his summons instantly and proccing scarlet rot.
Spent the rest of the time trading off me using lightning strike with my crazy fucking mimic just spamming ice and magic breath.
I always arrive to that fight thinking that I'm completely willing to use mimic or bewitching branch or something because screw multi fights, then end up blowing him up first try without doing so. It helps that the adds instantly despawn on phase transition, so you can just smoke him.
Though one time that did entail just running around in circles a lot.
it's honestly pretty chill for an add fight, i don't mind it
you basically get a free backstab at the opening and if you can follow it up with a poise break quickly enough you can take out one of the knights right away; niall himself is fairly passive while the knights are out, so you're free to kite the other one away and deal with it

I was using a +7 Lhutel and the adds and Niall killed Lhutel before I could finish buffing up war cry and flame on most of the runs heh. I went out and farmed up to +10 and they still almost killed him before I got the adds killed. Just stood in ice breat most times heh.

immortan joe quote, but with buffs instead of water
I only have Sinh left in my first of the DS2 DLC's, but I probably won't get time to play for a few more days.
So far though, the DLC bosses are much better than the base game. Certainly the fight against three opponents was tough, and I called in reinforcements to help. Elana was also a cool design (if familiar) but a little easier despite the summon she brings in halfway through. I'm looking forward to the next DLCs though, if these are any indication of quality.
It occurs to me that I've never looked into it, are Sihn and Aava supposed to turbofuck weapon durability as a mechanic or is it just a hilarious result of their models having more surfaces for your weapon to hit on each swing?

Mechanic.
It was a good question, as this is the series that had weapon durability loss tied to framerate, causing 60fps overlords to almost break weapons at twice the normal speed.
i'm not sure it's intentional because i don't see why it would be, but i definitely remember double cats fucking up my weapon in 2014 vanilla, so it's certainly nothing they've introduced in later releases
summoned the gang against radahn for old times' sake
regret it; he died in like 20 seconds, no phase 2 at all
I wish my dudes were ever half as smart. Half of them die before they get up the hill.
i did have pretty much a kryptonite setup for him, which didn't help; basically my guys rolled in, i doused him with rotten breath, and then got 2 bleed procs and a poise break while the squad kept wailing on him.

If anyone cares, this is how my build is currently handling Farum Azula
Is it just me that Rotten Breath seems to do absolutely nothing for? It's like it takes 6 applications to even get going which seems excessive. Maybe I'm just bad at judging range?

It's a Crucible Knight, so you take what you can get DPS wise.
Rotten Breath is fantastic for trimming down packs of enemies to nothing and shortening boss battles. If you don't see any HP bars going down, then you aren't doing any damage.

When you dual wield claws, does it double the amount of bleed you inflict?

Status application is per hit, so more hits is faster application. The damage when it hits an enemy's threshold to trigger bleed is ~15% of normal enemies HP and varying percentages of bosses' health+100 or 200 depending on the weapon (mostly 100, I'm not sure what does the 200 my source doesn't say).
Weird exception to the more hits rule would be bleed from bloodflame blade, which like, applies and then ticks its full bleed application so reupping it with fast hits doesn't do more bleed/second (but this does prevent your bleed application from decaying between hits).

They nerfed rot breath a while back and it’s still incredible. You might be using it on the wrong enemies.
Though I’ve had some difficulty judging distance with the dragon breaths as well. It always goes a lot farther than expected, but if I use it at a distance it always feels like I’m too far away.

Has anyone had to deal with constant disconnect from servers that kicks you out of the game? I just started playing Elden Ring on my PS5, and while really fun, this has been a constant annoyance. My internet connection on my PS5 is fine, but every once in a while the game will just kick me to the main menu. This even happened in the middle of a boss fight. Is there a work around, or something that could fix it? (Besides playing in offline mode)
do they still have that thing where dragon breath doesn't have any vertical limit so you can just get on a high ledge and rain down death on everyone below?

I've been playing on my PS5 on WiFi and only had one disconnect in more than 200 hours. Do you have issues in other games?
Ive had a disconnect lately from pretty much each souls game. The games have been pretty much the only thing ive been playing and its only been one or two. It isnt very common but I have had some.

I don’t know if it’s -no- vertical limit but it’s definitely preferable to using a bow and arrow when a dude is below you and the angle is more than like 30 degrees
God i hate how bows and crossbows work (or rather, don’t) in this game
The thing it took me a bit to figure out was you’re basically making a cloud of mist for them to walk into so you should start the attack earlier than you might think.

The dual Crucible Knight fight in the one dungeon near Leyndall I used my Mimic to tank them for a bit and just hosed them with Rotten breath, then spent a few minutes running laps of the room until they died. Fuck 'em. Rotten breath and the big boy/girl caster edition of it are awesome.

Onward to the Iron King DLC, then.

Shoot him with poison arrows from outside the castle.

From what I remember yes. If powerstancing (L1). It will add the hit and effect of the OH to the attack.

Sucks down FP like a me at a buffet but the sheer power is pretty damn satisfying.
The range and coverage of the breath attacks is pretty insane.
Give me an illusory dragon doing a flyby instead of a giant head, you know?
