My enthusiasm and admiration of Norm Macdonald has really cooled off since a lot of things surfaced at his death

He stood up for his shitty friends Louis CK and Roseann, he thanked, congratulated and promoted Jordan Peterson on Twitter, and I guess I've matured or grown a lot since I was a fan of his in the 2000s

A lot of his stuff has really boomer energy that I don't enjoy anymore

I think about NOMAAM at least twice a year and I still chuckle, I know I probably shouldn't but I do, and then my wife asks me what I'm chuckling about and I tell her and she says that she can't believe that I remember that or what it stands for, it's always fun.

Ed O Neil and Katey Sagal do not get enough credit for their performances in Married.

The cast is generally fantastic (Faustino is prob the weak link) but those two are the c stand outs.

There is indeed significant and very romantic boy kissing, as well as some enby kissing. They are all enormously awkward dorks about it too.

I wonder how much the Discovery merger is fucking that up. Hopefully it won't be yet another "Well WE didn't make this, so get rid of it" casualty like what's going on at the CW.

Now that I'm thinking about it, Disney buying Fox was oddly bloodless on the TV-front compared to other past media mergers, right? (unlike the movie-side, where the scythe swung HARD) I'm not misremembering something?

We've been showing our son Farscape and just finished season one yesterday. His general reaction to and opinion of Scorpius was everything I could have possibly hoped it would be.

    Ally McBeal update:

On today's episode, to stop a cute guy from driving out of her life, Ally rear-ends him as a means to exchange information (and hit on him). This ultimately works in her favor, but Ally gets more than she can handle. This guy (played by Craig Bierko)? He's cute. He's a well-off oncologist. But... His laugh... He has a bad laugh. Ally describes it to her coworkers as, "it sounded like a cow giving birth." Ally ultimately dumps him because of it and he IMMEDIATELY sues her for damages regarding the car-wreck. Ally's position is bullshit and yeah, she settles. Oh Ally... You are so god damn dumb...

That was the B-plot, it was whimsical and cartoonish.

    The A-plot is not.

Richard Fish secretly follows Ling around Boston as every Wednesday afternoon she disappears. After pursuing her through active traffic (not a problem for Ling as she pretends to be blind [with collapsible stick like Matt Murdock] to get past such mundane obstacles), Richard gets Ling to confess that every week she volunteers as a dancer at a retirement home. She dances with the older men, but shows up for one, Marty. She's known Marty for eight years and Marty is probably Ling's best friend. Ling actually has power of attorney regarding Marty's health, and that's a gift because this Marty guy? He's a hoot and a half. He's the most popular dude at the retirement facility. He talks his peers into wheelchair races. Marty officiates the yearly Nude Olympics. Marty is awesome. But... Marty is also prone to storytelling. He's convinced his peers that ghosts, dragons, and evil pygmies haunt the facility. And as a result Marty is being evicted from the facility.

Ling, Richard Fish, and John Cage all defend Marty in a courtroom to halt this, and they ultimately lose because Marty is... He's tormented. He is prone to hallucinations of terrifying bad-CGI-pygmies hunting him.

Sadly after losing their case, Marty gets another haunting and is chased into active traffic. His temporal lobes and spine are crushed. He survives entirely on the support of a respirator.

Ling is convinced by the other senior citizens into letting Marty go and, well, the episode ends with Ling watching as maybe her oldest living friend dies.

I'd 100% believe that Craig Bierko would have an awful laugh. But all I know is his scream when he's dying.

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Fun fact: the woman who wrote that episode also wrote the book for the new musical I'm doing at work right now. We chatted for a bit during tech rehearsals. She was super nice and made lots of racy jokes.

Which is to say, I am not at all surprised that she wrote a scene which featured ass-eating as the stinger. Absolutely in character for her.

I would say it’s halseys actions that chiefly cause it, or more accurately a confluence of bad decisions made by people who think they’re doing it for the right reasons.

Huh? Why? It’s a pretty common story telling device. Characters believing they are doing the right thing from their own perspective but causing unintended consequences. What’s the alternative? Things working out fine for everyone because everyone believes their own motives to be righteous? I’m not sure what the issue is here. This is pretty much how all conflict in storytelling works

Or do you mean having Halsey do something arrogant and selfish because she thinks she knows better and it turns out to have ripple effects she doesn’t foresee? I mean that part read as character appropriate to me

To be clear her actions aren’t necessarily 100% directly leading to that outcome. It would’ve happened anyway eventually. Just the actions of everyone involved had various consequences that could lead to that outcome. But it’s not like she’s 100% to blame and pressed a big red button dooming the planet of something

Every episode has a scene where the team addresses the local police. They all gather in a room. The team stands in front of them in a line. They take turns giving out the info. Legit, everyone says 1 maybe 2 lines and then on to the next person. It is the most awkward thing.

I love the impossibly precise choreography of those scenes. Everyone has their one line and then on to the next person. It always looks so meticulously rehearsed and that’s hilarious.
