I was impressed by Spain, Ukraine is also great, and Norway is delightful. The ballads continue to just run together. Yes yes love is nice or sad thanks

The veil/crown/mask thing also works really well with the theme of the song.

Subwoolfer goofing with the host was hilarious

Serbia's song is about Serbia not providing health insurance for artists

“God, grant me health; I am left on my own.”

It’s also about anxiety and fear, particularly in the last lines.

“The body is healthy. Now what?
A fearful mind in a sound body.
An anxious mind in a sound body.
A desperate mind in a sound body.”

It really resonates, particularly in the years since 2020.

I love that song, yeah. The staging, costumes, song, intensity, choreography, and lyrics are just, top tier.

I particularly love the way that the backup dancers have white towels slung around their shoulders, such that they look like priests.

I think they must be joke points. They’ll explain at the end.

Australia being jury bait that almost got nil from the audience makes perfect sense.

UK shouldn't be as high as it is but middle of the pack seems fine.

Ukraine gets 29 points less than a perfect 468 from the audience vote.

The UK guy handled the switch-up from jury to public votes better than the Switzerland person from last year.

I’m conflicted, because Ukraine’s song absolutely slaps, but I’m concerned that people will be shits about it on the internet.

It seems impossible that current events didn’t influence how the audience voted. But like, that’s literally every audience every year. Across an entire country’s population, you can’t separate out those influences. It’s just that this year has an inordinately major thing (a goddamn war) on the voters’ minds.

Ukraine’s song was wonderful, skewed or not. I also adored that Serbia got a shitload of viewer votes, and ended in the top 5.

Oh yes. Their space, man was a very good sport. I liked his song a lot, as well. I think also they were just happy to get points after last year.

I was going to write... if the UK won, Eurovision would have had to be hosted in Slough but maybe that's still going to happen

  • FlarneFlarne Registered User regular
I don’t understand the UK points in any way.

I thought we were all agreed that they’re terrible

    The song wasn’t even good

    What’re the jury playing at

  • PlatyPlaty Registered User regular
Maybe someone associated with the UK act is really popular with other musicians in Europe

  • EnlongEnlong Registered User regular
I thought the song was quite good.

It’s no Serbia or Spain in my eyes, but it was also definitely no Switzerland.

  • PlatyPlaty Registered User regular
I also thought it was at least solid

The UK artist said his mission was to provide the UK public and UK musicians with a new view of Eurovision which is commendable

the UK song was that airplane thing, yes? I loathed that

So I watched this last night after my shift at work.

-- I didn't like having to give NBC five bucks to watch this via Peacock Premium, but I did really enjoy Johnny Weir as commentator.

    -- Too. Many. Ballads.

-- I understand why Ukraine won but... Their performance was "so-so."

-- My top five performances were:
#5. -- Latvia (their song is okay but their music video really elevates them into a top five, for me)
#4. -- Norway (this is why I watch Eurovision, for goofy bullshit)
#3. -- France (I just adore Celtic EDM)
#2. -- Serbia (this entire performance is amazing)
#1. -- Spain (holy shit, GOD DAMN)

    Just... GOD DAMN, SPAIN!

Apparently, 6 countries had their jury votes stricken by Eurovision and replaced with mathematically calculated substitutes. That's why three of the countries had "technical difficulties"; they had a different 12p vote than the one they actually submitted, so the EU just... cut them off the broadcast and announced it. Really absurd way to go about this.
