An exercise in frustration. So many different blockers I don't even know where to start. If it is plugged into the computer it doesn't see it and I can't install it. If it is plugged into the network I can see it and can't install it. Dell doesn't do drivers for it. It should be native to Windows, but if I try to go through Windows update to install it then it tells me that a group policy is preventing me from installing nt 4.0 drivers. The fix for that seems to be gpedit.msc, but I can't run that even if I am logged in as administrator, and that is after copying it into System32 like the internet instructs.
I am not going to punch my computer today, I am not going to punch my computer today, I am not going to punch my computer today.
...and when you are done with that; take a folding
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.
Maybe not the answer you're looking for but Dell never released drivers for that printer, which dates back to 2006, for Widnows 10. You might be able to get it working by using the Windows 8 drivers, that's probably your best bet. But there's a chance that a 17 year old printer just won't work with modern systems.
And if the native universal printer driver in Windows wont' work with it, then Windows doesn't "natively" support it either. You'll need working 3rd party drivers.
yeah, I do dislike throwing stuff away if it still works, but in this case a 17 year old printer is pretty much coming to end of life. Finding toner for it would probably be a challenge, even if you can get it working.
