Undecorate Win10 Start menu?

jclastjclast Registered User regular
I don't know what else to call this thing, but google is failing me. How do I get rid of the dumb circles, lines, and stars that just showed up in my start menu?

Sorry for the (hopefully) easy question, but I can't craft a decent search for this to save my life.

To be clear, I don't mind decorations (this PC is almost exclusively a toy), but these ones clash with my rotation of Firewatch wallpapers and it's pissing me off.

right click the taskbar, search > hidden
it will hide the search box on the task bar too, but you can still search just as easily by pressing the windows key or clicking the start button and just starting typing your search term.
That said, when I unhide the search box on the taskbar I don't have that graphic, weird. But hiding it should still get rid of that I think. Maybe it's because I have windows set to dark mode? Could try that also.

What I wish was that there was an option disallow windows from doing a web search for your search terms in the windows search, but MS has apparently decided they need to juice the usage numbers of Bing by forcing it to do a web search in addition.

Actually, you can disable web search with some minor registry tweaks (it's not as bad as it sounds). The only issue is that updates may randomly turn web search back on.

Others use the various Windows tweak packages to handle it (Start 10, and similar)

Right-click task bar. Deselect Search -> Search Highlights.

Just remember that half the people you meet are below average intelligence.

    Thank you! This worked wonderfully!
