Not knowing the director of a film you saw is like eating a food and not knwing how many calories are in a serving.
It's on the bag, man. It's right there.
But people definitely don't know.
I get it, but
it's right there, man.
...Is this where we stage an intervention because you only eat food from bags?
I actually rarely eat bag food any more.
Except for my oat bag, which is my treat for when I am a good boy.
The really incredible thing about my diet is that practically nothing I eat is processed snack food. I plan these crimes against my body out ahead of time and then put time and effort into executing them. Only the most artisanal hand-made blue cheese-stuffed meatloaf for my sacred temple, thank you.

With as many shitbags in hollywood I do a cursory glance at who's directing/writing a given movie just to make sure it isn't one of those guys.
"A delicatessen remake directed by Armie Hammer? Pass."
Yeah, you gotta at least make sure no Polanskis or Allens or Ratners were involved, at the very least.
I kinda depend on this forum for calling attention to that because I am not that plugged into the entertainment scene to keep track of all the awful running about.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
I was on the phone with my sister today and she’s talking about how I used to put roughly equal amounts of mayonnaise as meat onto my bologna sandwiches as a child and me wife chimes in and goes “Oh, yeah, I noticed that when we started dating, you really like a lot of sauce on your food”
And I’m like “yeah, well at least I’m not putting that sauce on bologna no more, strictly high end fresh meats drowned in aiolis and artisanal marinades, thank you very much.
I could probably wreck a nice bologna and American cheese sandwich, though, if you put one in front of me and told me no one would know.
Is Armie Hammer still out there trying to eat people?
Someone once joked to him that Bryan Fuller was going to make a 'Hannibal' TV sequel and Mads couldn't do it so dude's been going method ever since, just waiting for that call.

I think the only situations where I don't really do some quick research on the director of a film are:
-- The concept by itself is incredibly intriguing (and I was likely sold by a combination of the trailer & the marketing). An example of this was 2016's The Bad Batch.
-- Its a movie governed around a particular actor. For example, I don't really check out the director when I watch 90s action films with JCVD or Dolph Lundgren. They are why I am sitting down for the film.
-- The film has been recommended to me by people I trust.
Wow Firestarter is getting panned, the trailer looked bad but 12% RT is just oof. Zac Efron so many people watched Greatest Showman, you can do better than this.

we've been successfully making "kid with powers has to learn to control them while also escaping Shady Government Types" movies for like, decades.
it's a statistical outlier, fucking one up that bad.
Speaking of Sam Raimi I watched The Quick and The Dead which is still very good. The zoom and push ins during the gunfights are great. The cut from Sharon Stone and the pedo brawling in the bar directly to their gunfight in the rain rules.

The kid was good, Kurtwood Smith was good the few minutes he got onscreen, and Efron was alright
Everything else was a mess. Especially how the CG looked, and how rushed the third act felt
You know for all that Tim Burton shares a ton of elements between movies, I feel like the ones that come to mind for me are actually pretty distinct. Musicals, comedies, dramas, animated features, action stuff.
Edit: Like if you'd told me to guess who directed that one Planet of the Apes remake I would only guess Tim Burton after you also told me it had Helena Bonham Carter in it and music by Danny Elfman.
you know, detective pikachu is a great film. love it. five stars. but i can't help but feel like, as the director of shark tale, rob letterman shoulda used his sway to have marty scorcese voice psyduck.

I used to have a friend who was a screenwriter, but I had to stop talking to them because they just got too self-referential and I couldn't keep up with the levels of irony.

Over the years I realized is should put way more attention on the cameraman, because even if the movie might not turn out great with someone like Deakins or Lubezki I can at least expect pretty pictures

Your tweet chain broke the news to me that the sequel is likely cancelled and now I'm sad.

I mean hollywood sure doesn't give a fuck to keep gross people from doing the films, so I have to self select.

Secret bologna.
Oh yes.
I mean once you get a taste for it you crave it, soon enough you're going to a morgue with a hot plate and telling the guy there "no no not for that."
This is an always sunny reference please don't think I'm armie hammer's alt.

I know that I have, more than once, imagined and joked about a movie poster that's just spidery white lettering (and a nice border) on black:
TIM BURTON MOVIE
starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter
music by Danny Elfman
(and some other stuff, but really, does it matter?)
Edit: Like if you'd told me to guess who directed that one Planet of the Apes remake I would only guess Tim Burton after you also told me it had Helena Bonham Carter in it and music by Danny Elfman.
I find this more offensive personally, since my friend's a screenwriter.
Pooro is also a screenwriter
