Anyone have experience with transporting kayaks?
Our car doesn’t have rails but there’s a Thule system that means you can mount rails between the door frames. As always I’m concerned with hurting the paint.
Then they have various types of kayak mounts you can use on the rails.
Just looking for some general opinions in case someone has tried some of these things.
I've used doorframe mount racks on my last couple of cars and they've been fine, they're just a bit more of a faff than fitting to rails
The only thing to be careful of is if you're clamping to a section of the body with a taper to it, since that can mean that the clamp can slide down the taper
If worried about paint you can use some low tack painters tape to protect the surface
A buddy is looking for a clip of what is probably a British quiz show, where an American asks how some other person could possibly have known whatever it was, and the answer is "Because I went to a school in Europe".
This rings intense déja vù bells for me, and I'll most likely recognize the answer, but does anyone know where is that from?

Roll down the windows and get 1000 feet of rope.
and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them
but they're listening to every word I say

I've transported kayaks the following ways.
- J Cradle system on roof rails
- homemade system like the one you're describing, it was basically foam wrapped 2x4s ratchet strapped around the roof through the open windows, but the foam kept everything scratch free. Also very cheap compared to the kits.
- Tossing it in the back of a truck
- carrying it like a sled with my camping gear inside it, on a hike to a spot where I could put it in the water and camp. fuck that was a trek.
I think your option with the Thule setup would work fine.

Sorry, ringing no bells for me, but if you find the clip let me know because it sounds funny.

Sounds like a QI clip. But there are a lot of episodes so I couldn't tell you which one.

I don't know that I've ever heard any song of their but More Than Words. 80s metal was pretty dead for me.
