Yeah try going at it with those wood bits(?) that should work. Then use a wood file to clean it up

    The dream was this:

    wqvb198u4bo4.jpeg

Put grommet in desk so I can run cables down to pc

I’m about prepared to accept that I’m going to have to do this instead, with the cables running up the side of the desk (masked with a cableway or whatever)

This a totally not helpful comment but I’m surprised the desk didn’t have one built in. I figured it’d be super common by now

Yeah it’s bizarre to me that the desk is built back to the wall like that with no gap- and yet doesn’t have a grommet. Dumbass design.

    Oh ok, manufactured wood.

Pretty sure that means you're basically trying to drill through a giant mass of wood glue and yeah those auger bits are for wood (and tbh mostly for drywall).

Want you'd want is a hole saw bit like this but using a large regular bit to make multiple holes to clear material should work fine as long as you don't care if the hole is a little rough looking. You can always clean it up later or buy one of the plastic inserts to make it look nice.

    Chu what is the drill?

Is it actually an impact driver? (Instead of a drill?)

Also... how charged is the battery?

I got to see what it was like to nick the reactor core of a ship in Hardspace: Shipbreaker this evening. I also got to absolutely destroy my framerate.

    Good times!

    Good times!

I tried to rip some cables out of a computer while it was fully plugged in

The shock electrified me and the entire room

I did not realize this would happen, nor that the reactor was in the room above, nor that this would start the reactor meltdown

I rushed to grab it and realized too late that I was pulling it through a room full of fuel tanks and melting down reactors put out a ton of arcing electricity

    Anyway I extremely died

Anything harder than soft pine will be difficult with a hole saw of that size without a drill press. The wobble is causing friction.

Some libraries have tool lending libraries. I know that two of the local libraries here in Oakland and Berkeley both have one.

This chat is making me angry but I'm not gonna drive 14 hours just to fix you all.

But I'm in pure dad mode and ask me the vest tools you need to do whatever. Or just embrace IKEA.

IKEA is actually usually good if you can follow those instruction.

You might need a different bit. Videos I googled on drilling a hole in laminate countertop they are using those grit bits or a fancier one. Your drill is probably also not good enough.

Do not pay someone 20 dollars to do it on Craigslist. You can probably get a whole impact drill for 20 dollars.

and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them

Somewhere in chu's neighborhood is a 50 year old corded drill driver that'll make your lights flicker and break your wrist before stalling out.
