Talk about those Darkstalkers and weird ass fighting games.

Games in the collection (From Prima Games):
Darkstalkers Series
Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors (1994) – The original Darkstalkers introduced us to the very unique cast of characters.
Night Warriors: Darkstalkers’ Revenge (1995) – The second game in the series that added the chain combos and more special gauge management options.
Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire (1997) – The third entry in the series, with new characters, mechanics, and a continuation of the story.
Vampire Hunter 2: Darkstalkers’ Revenge (1997) – An updated version of game #3 with a modified character roster.
Vampire Savior 2: The Lord of Vampire (1997) – The final version of the third game in the series.
Pocket Fighter Series
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (1996) – The infamous puzzle fighter that combines SFII characters with Columns-like puzzle gameplay.
Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix (1997) – A sequel that introduces characters from Darkstalkers and other games into the Puzzle Fighter mix.
Other Games
Cyberbots: Full Metal Madness (1995) – A spin-off of the Armored Warriors, previously only available on SEGA Saturn and the first PlayStation.
Red Earth (1996) – The rare CPS III title that is receiving its first home port ever in this collection.
Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition (2003) – The collection wouldn’t be complete without at least one version of Street Fighter II. This is the most recent update of the legendary VS fighter that started it all.

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo got a sequel!? What! That's one of my all time favs, I gotta check this out...

...oh. That sucks! It's just a fighting game using the chibi art style. File it away with that god awful 3D model revival they did a few years ago I guess. :<

That aside, I am rather interested in Darkstalkers, via Puzzle Fighter. Hsien-Ko is my fav character there, always been curious to see her in the original setting.

    Oh brilliant

So calling Vampire Savior, night warriors 2, and vampire savior 2 different games is a bit of a stretch.

Basically they put out Vampire savior, which cut I think 3 characters from Night warriors for space reasons, and people in Japan said “but I liked those characters” so they made a couple of versions with those guys in them. (The difference being what other characters got cut to make room)

These are the actual unaltered releases of the Darkstalkers games. No mashups like other releases.

C'mon, Capcom, where's my Star Gladiator and Rival Schools?

Chuck in Street Fighter EX+ Alpha as well even though most people seemed to hate it.

A nice companion piece to Cyberbots would have been Tech Romancer. I'm just saying.

The saturn version of Vampire Savior was essentially arcade perfect and included all the features of Vampire Hunter 2 and Vampire Savior 2.

Again the only difference was the character roster (and a few balance changes the saturn version reverted because everyone in Japan hated them).

Its hard to really argue “arcade perfect” as that great of a thing when the saturn versions of Street fighter Alpha 3 and Vampire savior were just flat out superior versions because the saturn could pump pixels just as good and didn’t have the memory limitations of a CPS2 board.

Well, I assume these are also tweaked to run better. We need a detailed analysis.
There was also that PS3 release which was like a Darkstalkers mash up. Really, they should have included that and Chaos Tower.

Yeah, I’m not saying its a bad package (I bought it but I would have felt a bit better at a $20 price point but whatever).

I just feel like its a bit lazy of them. Like they could license out an emulator and include saturn versions or whatever in addition, it would just be nice to have a bit more effort than just throwing in arcade roms for a CPS2 emulator and calling it a day. There are some nice in game things like accessible move lists and art and such, but even with those I’d feel better about playing so much if there were some actual new content or it included the expanded console versions of the games.

Like if Saturn versions of Alpha 3 and Vampire Savior were in I’d feel a lot better about having spend 40 bucks on an impulse buy rather than sitting here wondering if maybe I should return it for some other stuff on sale now.

I am wondering if the emulator they are using is enhanced. It is definitely multiplatform.

"rollback netcode" doesn't mean that much if these are roms in an emulator.

  • KrathoonKrathoon Registered User regular
Yeah. I am not certain if this is an emulation or port. It is probably a port if they added netcode. They probably have the original code.

Was the Darkstalkers 1 AI always cheap as fuck?

I only had the Saturn version of Darkstalkers 2 (Night Warriors) and I don’t remember it being that cheap so wha happen? Inferior PlayStation quality that’s what couldn’t even do tag teams in XvSF yeah I member, Saturn gang 4 lyfe.

Edit: yeah, DS2 and 3 are so much smoother, Felicia actually performs attacks the way you want instead of feeling like a damn tank.

While I am champing at the bit for a Capcom 3D Fighting Collection, I'm not sure whether any of the Street Fighter EX games would be a part of it, since they were made by and feature characters from Arika.

On another note, I bought Sonic Origins after hearing all these great things, then all the stuff started coming out of the woodwork about problems with the games.

I haven't gotten this yet, and I don't want the same thing happening. Anything I should be aware of?

Capcom is pretty good with their stuff not having massive bugs. I have not heard of anything so far.

These are not the same games. Puzzle Fighter is a puzzle game, Gem Fighter is a fighting game where people drop gems when you punch them.
