    this last two parter,

    human nature/the family of blood

is easily one of the best of the new series, up there with girl in the fireplace

and oh yes i am very excited for the finale

and i'm glad they haven't drummed it into our heads like they did with the other themes ("bad wolf" and torchwood)

the only thing I'm worried about is how non-longtime fans of the series will take it
it all depends on how they present it, 'cause there's decades of master backstory, but zero mention in the last two seasons

Hey dude you might wanna spoiler that

    Although yes I agree
i totally didn't see the fact that John Smith would not want to kill himself to become the doctor coming

[edit]and then the matron pointing out that john smith was braver than the doctor because where the doctor hid to save himself, john smith had to kill himself to save others

very, very clever episode, also very very sad

Yes, I really liked this episode.
The bit at the end where he did the horrible things to the members of the family was odd though. Didn't feel like the doctor I know...I don't know. Maybe the watch changed him slightly?

he's been "darker" for a while now

it manifested itself for the first time in the second episode of the first series, where he lets cassandra die instead of saving her like rose asks

and it's just been magnified further with the recent loss of rose too

he even says in the christmas episode, "no second chances, that's the kind of guy i am"

but i do agree, some of those punishments were just really really malicious

I know about the whole "Darker" side of this doctor, but what he did to the family members seemed....Frankly, pretty evil.
Trapping someone in mirrors? The punishments seemed more sadistic than just.

Seriously though, I cannot fucking wait for the end of the series. John Simms is a brilliant actor, and he's going to be fantastical in Doctor Who, I just know it.

one of my other favourite bits of the new series is martha seeing the inside of the tardis for the first time, doing the whole "what the hell thing" and then the doctor mouthing "it's bigger on the inside" when she says it, rolling his eyes and saying "is it? i hadn't noticed!"

Well, he was going for some kind of "Ironic Justice", forcing the Family to live forever, because that is what they wanted.

It was interestesting to see consequenses and such being focused on, instead of the old sort of happy-go-lucky idea that as long as everything was cleaned up once the Doctor was done, everything was okay, dispite his messing aroundin time and space.

Also, in that sense, it reminded me of the H2G2 series when
ArthurDent is faced by a guy who he has killed repeatedly throughout time and space, in a variety of reincarnations.
The idea of taking something that was originally, OBVIOUSLY intended to be a sort of happy-go-lucky move, and done with zero forethought, because why would you even bother caring about it, turning out to have serious and even grave consequences is kind of delicious.

They're stupid fucking expensive, but oh my god are so worth it. I've bought both seasons at full price and don't regret it one bit.

Plus they're good for sharing. I try to get everyone hooked, and it usually works.
