Ranged Touch makes good podcasts, even if you're not familiar with the media. I've read very few Stephen King books and enjoy Just King Things quite a bit, and while I've played some of the Fallout and Baldur's Gate games, I've not played everything those respective podcasts talk about and still consider them a blast. I'm only occasionally a listener to Games Study Study Buddies, because it requires a lot more focus, but they do a good job of explaining even the complex academic books they deal with.
I read a number of Stephen King books back in the day, but part of the enjoyment of Just King Things is Michael and CMRN working through figuring out just what it is that makes a Stephen King book Stephen King, and then seeing how that changes over the years, and how he keeps revisiting and putting new spins on the same sorts of themes and such
Their Games Studies Study Buddies podcast is even more explicitly intended for consumption by people who aren't doing the reading along with them. On that show they read (game-related) academic texts and help break down the big concepts being explored for folks who lack all the formal education that they have.
All of their podcasts can help you better expand your media literacy and grow your ability to critically examine the media you interact with. On top of having a good rapport and being generally entertaining as far as a rewatch/reread-style podcast goes.

Homestuck Made This World might genuinely be my favorite podcast ever, and I'm glad the follow-up podcast is similar kickass even if I haven't gotten my hands on enough BotNS books (any) to listen to it yet
Hey podcast thread! the twitter thread got me onto the Blowback podcast, I've listened to the first two seasons and just started the third. Season 4 is Afghanistan and I'm very excited about it. How long does it stay behind a pay wall, does anyone know? I might pay for it anyway but prob not for a few weeks until once a bunch of other things have been sorted.

Looks like they start getting released week to week for free after about 2 months.
Catching up on the Flophouse and boy they still got it, 'Legend of the Titanic' is an animated North Korean childrens film and induced in Dan a recounting of bringing himself to tears by imagining how ruthlessly his cats would devour him if he was the size of a mouse and later a severe ennui tailspin, delectable

The fucking wheeze I let out when his voice started cracking *again* while thinking about it scared my roommate's dog.
"A new take on the epic fantasy genre... Darkly comic, relatable characters... twisted storyline."
"Readers who prefer tension and romance, Maledictions: The Offering, delivers... As serious YA fiction, I’ll give it five stars out of five. As a novel? Four and a half." - Liz Ellor My new novel: Maledictions: The Offering. Now in Paperback!

Today I finished listening to season 1 of Blowback. It left me feeling angry, sad, and scared. Real "I'm going to just sit and look at this wall for a while" mood.
Oh well I'm sure later seasons are more uplifting.
I know the Chapo crew has bit of a divisive reputation around here but there has been some truly tragic stuff happing to Matt Christman who had recently found a wonderful niche doing dan carlin style history deep dives with a marxist analysis angle.
I hope he pulls through, the wording on their new item was pretty dour though.
listened to a banger ep of bigsofttitty.png where they impersonate an author writing a book about miniature horse safety to learn the sordid details surrounding the sudden death of a beloved competitive miniature horse (the horse got excited running down hill and tripped and died).
I’m honestly a little unclear on that— episode says they are ‘welcoming back Austin Walker, ‘ which makes me think it’s a more permanent thing? Their website is pretty unclear

In the send off stream they did for Ren, Patrick talked about sending her and Austin out to play Dragon's Dogma 2, and the way it sounded in that stream was it was more of a one-off.
It is the most Austin Walker episode you can have.
They go on a Tom Clancy tangent, a union tangent and a bearsfanshop.com and a crocs tangent before getting to the videogames

And take forever to get to the Dragons Dogma part, which is hilarious.
I really like Waypoint and Remap but I'm a little worried about Remap without Ren there. I don't know if I agree with her on ... a lot of how games work as someone who works in them, but I really liked having her and I am kinda worried about a 3 person all guy podcast where one of them is a charisma black hole.

IIRC Ren was originally going to be leaving as a regular in August, and they've said that they're planning on having a guest seat open for folks to join them as availability allows, be it Austin, Ren, or other whoever else they might be able to reach out to.
When Rob was on vacation the other week, they had Xalavier Nelson Jr on
i like patrick and rob just fine but without a fourth regular on i am concerned that remap is gonna be way way WAY too much of the two of them by volume

I like Patrick a lot, so I don't mind him. I really like Rob, but he needs someone to both really get him going, and also to keep him from going too far out. Ren was perfect for that (and was also just great in general).
On the plus side, Renata has a Patreon that she kicked off with a pretty good video essay, so you can sorta try and crossfade that and Rob and Patrick talking about cars and sports or whatever to get the same experience.

Sad about Reb leaving, but hopefully she’ll still guest star from time to time
