I dunno, but it seems like pulse rifles and sidearms are EVERYWHERE in crucible.
At some point I will understand why there can't just not be a meta. Why things always go from underpowered to overpowered instead of it just being even and using what you want.

But today is not that day.
Because balance is ridiculously hard and basically an ongoing process or just something left in whatever unbalanced state it's in when a studio moves on to their next release.

Eh. Just use w/e IMO. (Caveat: I just like pulse rifles anyway; always running around with those/scouts no matter what.) The metagame only applies at a level that, frankly, most people ain't at. 3-5% difference in weapon effectiveness is so lost in the slop of most people's performance variance. And it's far more likely that a weapon archetype and you will click better than it is you'll have equal performance with all types. For instance, hand cannons just... I can't. I don't even know why, but I can't hit a fucking thing. Ever. Same with shotguns.
Besides, you want a zillion people to test your new thing and the weapon that's broken the game so many times it's got a reputation, this is how you do it.
It is Sunday night. The way their weird pool is supposed to work is the flawless folks are gone, so normals do your thing. They have refused to make the solo playlist standard, and the capture node is also intermittent.
I just did three five round matches back to back of 3 stacks with gilded Flawless players on one side, and three solo rando's on the other.
We managed to actually win one because we lucked into another gilded Flawless also trying to game the system wiping out the other team while we were penguins trying to fly. But the rest was absolute ridiculousness. 12.0 kd's versus .65 kd's.
How hard is it to make to those 3 stacks match each other and the rando's match each other instead of what we have now? How hard is it to just leave the solo playlist on? Or revamp the Glory playlists with custom loot so folks don't have to touch this shit game mode ever again? Or just ditch the pool system, as all it seems to do is incentivize folks to let their peers weed themselves out and then jump in and pulverize people.
It can be a good mode, and other modes could be too. But as it is now its a joke.
I have quite a few game playing friends. Most have quit the big D a long time ago. The few that never started, I can't recommend it with a straight face to a new player. It's the most player unfriendly game I've seen in a long time. Bungii better thank whatever that they figured out how to make shooting pixels feel as good as it does.
New players aren't supposed to be going anywhere near Trials anyway.
And there's no issue with making better matches in Trials. The restriction is entirely that to do that, they've have to abandon the format of Trials. Which they can't do because the high-end PvP playerbase would scream bloody murder.
Yeah, Trials completely relies on more teams having your experience than teams getting to the lighthouse. Period. It's designed around that to some extent, though less so when it win-matched. (Because hey, you may get stomped but if you got stomped at 6, it's 'cause the other team got that far too, and like that seems generically fair.)
Right now, it's nothing but people attempting to farm players that can't fight back so their k/d stays high, people selling lighthouse trips, people just attempting to ruin lighthouse trips, and a few stubborn bastards still trying to make a game mode out of it. It's toast, and doesn't know it yet, because all the meat that's needed to keep the grinder running has figured out that being ground kind of sucks.
Actually participating in Iron Banner because yay double Crucible points! I learned after 4 matches that I help my team more by staying out of the fray and away from enemy Guardians. But I did manage to get the Crucible requirement done for Cryo77 and finally reset my Crucible rank to get The Chaperone, so that's nice.
Stupid's TWAB report: Transgender Awareness - good stuff, doesn't affect me (I'm not trans) but I do have several trans friends and think that awareness and acceptance is a good thing. Donate if you can. Community Event - a two week event at the tail end of the season. The rewards better be amazeballs, or the requirements ridiculously low. This announcement is pretty opaque so I'm not chomping at the bit to get involved. Title Requirements - All good changes. This might actually incent me to get the title. Security Update - I'm in such a low-skill bracket that anyone cheating was already moving away from matching with me so I am generally not affected. Probably good changes for those who care. Crucible Updates - This is the real meat of the TWAB!
Collapsing down to 4 "rotator" playlists! AWESOME!! (I would have preferred TWO playlists, but this is a great step IMO.)
Two SBMM playlists, one with 'tight' skill limits! GREAT! (I will be playing Survival/Rift/Showdown almost exclusively.)
Two CBMM playlists, one with no skill factors at all! GREAT! (I will never touch the FFA mode unless someone pays me)
Trials/IB replace one of the four playlists when active. GREAT! (I'm still going to avoid FFA/Trials hahah)
New crucible title. Sure, whatever... I'm not going to get this one either.
Crucible gear focusing. Sure, whatever... I'm not really actively chasing anything in the crucible loot list. Happy for those that are and can use this. The revised engram system seems nice though.
New Iron Banner mode sounds interesting, albeit light on detail. (We'll see how it plays.)
Taken King IB armor is fine... if you need more skins. (I don't.)
Fireteam based matchmaking sounds interesting in concept, but as a primarily solo player, I don't really care.
Dynamic Skill Ranges for SBMM sounds... well, I'm not a fan. Speaking as someone who lives in a fairly low-population skill band, any sacrifices to the skill limits will ALWAYS result in a worse experience for me personally. I'd happily wait a few seconds longer in queue to avoid a blowout game.
Quitter Suspension is non sequitor IMO. I don't generally quit games (even if I'm losing - which is the majority of the time!) and if my third-world internet drops me out of a game a few times I probably should pick something else to play for a while anyway.
Trials changes wont affect me, so I wont comment.
New maps are always good. I'm curious to see which maps they've chosen!
Ranked play in SBMM competitive! GREAT!! (I expect to be locked in to the lower divisions even with SBMM, but will be extremely happy to be proven wrong!!)
I'm also super excited that they are recognizing that rewards should NOT be tied to rank because people like me will NEVER achieve them! Lower ranked players will get access to the same rewards, just at a reduced rate of award.
Rose HC is back - Okay. I guess I can replace the one in my vault?
Overall I'm pretty happy with what they're doing (or at least trying to do). I'm actually looking forward to seeing these changes in game in a few weeks.
Hey, they finally figured out its a good idea to matchmake fireteams with fireteams.
Only been saying that for literal years.
Everybody knows it's a good idea. That's never the problem. The problem is how do you accomplish that kind of matchmaking while keeping the queues short and balanced.
Groups wreck absolute havoc on matchmaking and skill-determination algorithms.
With no active plot going on at the moment, Byf tosses his hat into the tier-listing video-ring by making one about how strong the raid bosses are according to lore.
Honestly the lore guys have been desperate for content for years now. Bungie started putting the plot in the actual game and making the written lore super explicit and then tossing it into lore books and on random weapon/armour lore tabs that are released in that same season. There's not any digging to do anymore and nothing to put together. It's all just "I will read the lore for you, you lazy shits" and "Let's recap this week's in-game dialogue".
I'm a lazy shit, so I appreciate the lore guys efforts.
Oh yeah, it's a valuable service. It's just there's not much more then that to do these days. They used to do like deep dive videos stringing together hints from various different sources. These days there's really not much to do on that front. So they've been trying to find ways to fill the time.
That shader is nice but I'm not grinding out another 16 ranks.
I'm still working on my reset for the guilding this season.
This mode is shit and the lack of SBMM means all the games are shit.
Just a really shit experience all around compared to what PvP has been the rest of the season.

Feels like Iron Banner has felt for basically the entirety of D2… honestly probably a bit better, I’ve hardly had any games end in a mercy, though I have had too many go to time due to maps like Disjunction, pretty tired of that map

Yup, it's intentionally and seems like some kind of puzzle for the community.

Something is definitely going on. Too bad I ducked out on Musk's tire fire and won't be seeing what.
I miss Destiny.

I'm totally dragging it out of the vault for this, whatever it is.
Telesto has evolved again
For me... no. Until we know more, I'll watch interestedly from the sidelines.
Didn't Telesto always have void projectiles and explosions? I haven't played in a couple years, but what is changed?

To me that’s cool, I’m sure it was a fun little passion project they came up with, and it’s a neat engagement with the community

Every damn team is running 3T and just spamming everywhere.
Did you buy the t-shirt though? Make sure to buy the t-shirt. There's a t-shirt.
