I am overjoyed as I step out and it’s overcast and 22 C. Then the creeping dread as I check the forecast and no it’ll actually be 30 C days but overcast the rest of the week.
So it’ll be humid as fuck and feel like the jungle again great.
Yeah, it's a steadily moving "last 40-50 years of music", and that means Elvis, Motown, etc. has aged off.
Agreed, though I think Motown has aged more gracefully and still gets a lot of play in soundtracks and so forth. Elvis is essentially too iconic to be played in anything that isn’t directly tied to himself or his haunts in Vegas and Hawaii.

I'd like to see as much of the less-horrible music from olden times remade using newer equipment so that we have kind of an archive copy, including stuff that predates recording. Thankfully growing up with black and white cartoons gave me a decent awareness of some oooold songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UliCMEdTFE&ab_channel=CatsPjamas1

I really think I dislike Elvis songs. Can’t Help Falling In Love With You is overplayed garbage.
Weirdly I was thinking about Elvis yesterday in the context of the new movie that came out. It received pretty good reviews and was made by a fantastic visual director with the blessing of Elvis’ family, but no one really saw it.
Nobody really cares about The King™ anymore, which is weird given how ubiquitous he was when I was younger—even though he’d already been dead for two decades.
Is that just a function of time and people moving on? I think so, mostly. There’s also the more modern baggage of the truth of his story being largely swept under the rug for so long, like him lying about writing credits, or keeping his bisexuality secret, or his weird harem of junior high girls.
His legacy now is a cautionary tale of the pitfalls of extreme fame, a story of yet more cultural appropriation of Black America, but also a microcosm of what the whole world was into during the 1950s and 60s. He was our first superstar.
He also continues to play a big role in our media, with living connections to so many projects and people that happened long after his death. Nicolas Cage. Michael Jackson. The Naked Gun movies. Riley Keough.
I think it's the same reason we don't have "oldies" stations on the radio anymore.
Most of the people who gave a shit about Elvis are dead or senile.
Or Hollywood weirdos who came of age in the 80s, when nostalgia for the 50s was hitting a fever pitch.
There's a radio station in my local area that does nothing past the year '79.
It's glorious. I had a run of Beatles, Elvis, Chet Atkins, Rolling Stones, Doobie Brothers, Don McLean and The Temptations last morning.

As Weaver Powerpuppies skippydumptruck Cinders Organichu can probably vouch for, my home gets a lot of ambient play from Big Band and Motown

Coffee both at home this morning and later at work tastes incredibly bad to me today. It tastes bitter like anti-fingernail-biting substance. Weird that I’m having the sensation in two different places despite never having it before. Should I be worried? 😁

Clearly you're allergic to coffee and can never drink it again.

This had me belly laughing at 3 in the morning.
“Actually, if I don’t go to sleep at all it should be easy for me to sleep at a good time tomorrow and fix my sleep schedule permanently.”
The final stage: Acceptance (e: at least for that specific night).
😂
I had a similar work story once
“She said I can’t start an IV in her arm, won’t even let me try. Go see if you can talk some sense into her,”
I go in.
I come back out 30 seconds later.
“Did she tell you why she wouldn’t let you?”
“No, I think she’s just being obstinate,”
“Did you look at her arms?”
“No . . .”
“She has no arms, hon. No arms. Born without.”
