[Path of Exile] PoE 2 early access arrives on December 6th
Also not only did they murder harvest but, I am probably just that unlucky but, every harvest had an unkillable rare in it with multiple mods and would either insta gib me or i can do no damage too. (I am maxed res, 80% phys reduction, 60% block etc etc.)

Got to maps today with a grand total of 4 tier 1 maps plus the free one from Kirac to make it 5. Not one single map drop from all of those. Good thing Kirac sells maps or else I would be done with this league.
I had fun playing lightning conduit up till my first couple of maps, not really feeling it now. It's a bit like super old school discharge ignite, where if you don't one shot everything it is clunky and frustrating.

This was a 5 minute slog. I can usually beat most rares in a couple seconds, most of the low tier metamorphs in 30-60 seconds.

i debated doing a full lightning -> cold heatshiver discharge ignite build
its like an ordinary ignite build except way more clunky
Speaking of map drop adjustment looking to be down too i would recommend you do small nodes straight to double small/notables do nothing node. Going through map smalls. Even with this I am hanging on with maps.

I’m still mostly enjoying conduit but I diverged off the streamer builds a bit, because I’m feeling starved for sockets and buttons, and haven’t given up on Galvanic Field.
For now I linked conductivity to wave of conviction with hextouch, and I use storm brand instead of Orb of Storms- which is especially nice against larger packs.
Wait nm there is a recent post. Let me see this one.
The second reason is that we removed a massive historic bonus to item quantity and/or rarity that applied to some league-specific monsters. We replaced it with a moderate (2-3x) increase to item quantity, to offset the fact that they often have more life than regular monsters and some cannot drop maps.
LOL typical GGG. This is huge and wasnt in notes etc. Map drop rate along with others is "intended".
Players also notice that occasionally a Harvest encounter can no result in no Lifeforce dropping. This was because, in an effort to reduce the number of clicks after an encounter, the Lifeforce from beasts below Tier 3 had a non-guaranteed chance to drop (but was larger on average than it otherwise would be).
Getting no lifeforce is a "feature" lol. Holy shit.
Yeah Chis is basically saying this sort of drops is what he wants. Here is hoping D4 is good because ill jump ship so hard.

hes just explaining balance team decisions, hes not making them
I mean I get that he delegates to some one else but he is still above and has to sign off on shit when the end product/league is all they have.
Edit: I am not sure why it wouldnt be his job to what is the CEO of the company, the top of the pyramid, for a game company its not his job?

i am not saying that chris is an angel without sin (although he is, but thats purely because he is bald), but it is simply that there are so many decisions made by people he simply cannot be expected to assess all of them. they hire a shitload of design people to make those decisions and he trusts them; he does a huge amount of boring admin and other shit. this is classic "some designer made a systems level change, everybody agreed to a reasonable mitigating measure in a design meeting, we signed off on it, it was briefly mentioned, etc" type deal
Well his balancing team sent him to die, then, cuz that was 8 paragraphs of nothing
I would assume by now that we understand his actual job is to deliver bad news to the masses cuz he has the superpower of not letting the internet get under his skin (most likely til it affects their bottom line, like 3.15)
This is the future. This is what we built. This is what we wanted. It must have been. Because we all had the fucking choice, didn't we? It is only our money that allows commercial culture to flower. If we didn't want to live like this, we could have changed it at any time, by not fucking paying for it.
So let's celebrate by all going out and buying the same burger. -transmet
I would strongly disagree. As a upper end manager myself. And for a company with one offering. And for decisions regarding something as big as core changes to the game it would funnel through the CEO of any properly running company. To state otherwise is accepting ineptness from the leader.
They not only fundamentally changed rares but they dropped what is essentially the drop multiplier. This lowered the rates of "everything". You will want to run "MF" basically now if you can. And he defended it. If it is not what he wanted he would have said we will make major modifications. But he didnt he said they will "ease it in". If it is not what I wanted as the top person in a company I would be pissed about what I am seeing in the league so far.

I have just gotten my hideout (so... most? of the way through Act 2) and now that I have access to ~crafting~ I want to ask, is this a decent place to be at in hardcore, or is there something that really needs to go up in order to not get abruptly shit on

I've been using hydrosphere for my exposure and pack clearing and storm brand for things that need more than one hit. Kicking hydrosphere around like a ball is kinda fun, though every now and then it seems to completely miss monsters that it should affect. Perhaps this is from desync, not sure. I haven't even tried Galvanic Field, I had it in a socket at one point but forgot about it.

I like it! It’s not worth pushing all the time, but it’s nice to have some extra damage ticking for several seconds on sturdier packs or rares/bosses. I can push it either before or after storm brand and it will pop up on someone either way.
I’m strongly considering the idea being tossed around of running field as the sixth conduit link instead of cruelty.
Yeah that response by CW is really disheartening. I'm not too concerned about how personally his fault it is or not -- it's ultimately just a buzz kill of a response. A stealth pretty large loot drop nerf that's not in the patch notes is.....a lot. Anything less than "our bad we're changing it back" is....pretty bad, and doesn't give me a lot of hope for the league as it continues. Hopefully their response to the response is better?
I get that the general opinion is that the PoE reddit is just an eternal cesspool of negativity but....it wasn't always, and I don't know that it has to be. There were leagues in days of yore (~2 years ago) where the front page of that place was covered in positive reactions to new leagues; yeah there was typically one or two issues to be patched away, but it hasn't always been just pure negativity. I would argue it's the patches that have changed more than the composition of that subreddit. Looking at it on Saturday/Sunday the top 10 posts were more or less mirror images of my initial post here reacting to the balance changes, which was comforting in a way I guess.
Well that CW post is his most downvoted post ever as of now. I think it has a lot more to do with how "meh" of a response it was than any sort of hate spiral; most of the negative stuff had fallen off by league launch day, buuut the loot situation appears pretty weird at the moment.
It's extra weird for me because I've actually found a build I really enjoy so far. It feels like I'm emerging into maps into a tire fire though.
my strategy of "don't league start on the first weekend" has extended to.. the first week.
usually i have a morbid curiosity of "how bad could it really be" that gets the better of me..
but i've seen enough this time around to justify holding out for a chance at a better start experience ;p

I understand the experience after 1000+ hours is different because you have different goals/expectations but as someone with 25 hours into this game my thoughts so far on loot/league/general experience:

Oh yeah totally.
Kamar said it really well -- the fundamentals are great. The only reason I waste time complaining is because the core of the game is very good. There's been a trend the last few leagues of the game getting less fun over time (for a significant chunk of the playerbase), whereas before it was getting more fun over time. But if the core wasn't good I would just leave and go do something else.

ive been playing since closed alpha and im havin a great time because the secret is to enjoy the game and not the slot machine attached to it
In happier news, homing missile cats are pretty awesome. That buff was nice, and makes me happy. Offscreen killing bosses feels good, and celestial cat MTX is the way.
I've still never really done a proper bane build (ed/contagion was too hax in the league where they added soulrend and bane), so I'm honestly leaning towards doing Soulrend/Bane Occultist all the way to the bank. Bane with blight and ED is prooobably technically better, but that lets me keep my curses and my cats too. Being able to often safely offscreen kill bosses with the homing cats has made up for the DPS loss so far, and I'm going to keep at it for now.

well sure but they've developed a recent track record of "the first week is overtuned and just a slog, then it gets patched back to a realm of sanity"
and since i usually play SSF, the "we killed harvest again" thing is getting old ;p

I think GGG may have done a real bad whoopsie doodle
The most roided out, juiced content in the game was netting them a few c each after each map.
Yeah there is also a vod of a near max level strongbox league area dropping nothing. Literally just some whites.

If their idea is to cull the power creep that has occurred since the launch of 3.0, then cool. I'm all for it. It's extremely necessary.
But it needs to be communicated so people can set expectations. Imagine blowing through several dropped divine orbs early in the league with the assumption that loot would work like it did last league because nobody has said a fucking thing about it.
From my understanding everyone in that Empyrean group just quit the league after that.
Pretty much all non stan content creators are rioting to some degree. And it is warranted as their communication has been horrible and inconsistent at best. Leaving out something as significant as dropping quant from what we all get a majority of our drops from (white drops like maps too)... well it has a very possible "we want to sell packs before dropping bad news" vibes to it.
Here is the link to all the drops from a level 15 strongbox node.

I also want to be clear to people like Surfpossum
We are talking about high level shit, dozens of hours away from where you're at. Finish the game out, enjoy it, try out the endgame. 99% of this won't really be a problem for you.
But I'm looking at me about to tip over into yellow maps with my league starter and I've got questions on whether it's worth it to try and push for my actual build (Power Siphon).
