Oh yes, I remember. One ability I severely missed from 64 was being able to go into water, dive a little bit, and then reheal once you reached the surface. A bit of an exploit, but I was sad to see that gone in Sunshine.
Well I beat it again. The last fight and the ending are ok by me, but damn if Bowser really needed a better voice actor. Jesus, I'm all for voice acting in nintendo games but that shit was horrendous.
I'm a little worried about Galaxy as well. From the videos we've seen, there seems to be little to no "real" platforming in the game. If Mario spends his time running around little planets that you can't fall off of, where's the danger in that? There's no camera control, so platforming bits like the ones in Sunshine seem like they would be impossible.
Think I read at one point that the planets are going to get pretty damn big later on. I imagine those are where your pitfalls are likely to be.
If it helps, imagine some parts where maybe you don't use a star to go from planet to planet, but it sends you to an asteroid field that you have to platform across to reach the next one. Not saying that's in there, but something like that is a possibility.
I'm pretty sure Nintendo will nail it. No camera control bugs me though, this is possibly the biggest problem with Wii's controller.
Hard to say. Maybe holding a button while moving the remote, or using the control pad on the Wii remote will control the camera. But the video looks like there's some method...
So, as great as SM64 and SMS were, and as great as SMG looks, I still really want a 3D Mario done retro-style. Brick ground, growth Mushrooms, fire flowers that you use the Wiimote to aim, it'd be the greatest thing ever.
I'd be pleased if the fireball mechanics in Super Smash bros. worked more classic.
two rapid fire shots, then nothing until those shots hit something, or bounce off screen.
Agreed.
On the first part, I think "Super Mario Bros. 3-D" would be cool, a sort of 3-D remake of the SMB3 game. Seems like a lot of possibilities, and raccoon tails are prime fodder for 3-D attacks.
And on Smash, I want better fireballs as well.

Dammit all, this thread made me want to break out Super Mario 64 DS again, but now it somehow got lost. I don't get how this keeps happening to me. /_\
As regards Galaxy, I hope they do something interesting with the story. I'm not saying it has to be deep, but different in the sort of ways that the Super Mario Land games were. I'd love to see the return of Tatanga, even tho Daisy is more his MO than Peach.

The problem is when the camera either won't move where you need it, or moves itself back.

But these aren't normal circumstances.
