I’ll leave the Paladin discussion to the ones who play the job.
But oh my god I’m giddy about the Sage update. Phlegma got its cool down time reduced down to 40 seconds. That’s a damage buff to begin with but now it lines up nicer with 2-minute buff windows; you can charge up exactly 3 in two minutes. And the Addersting change! You now get an Addersting charge if the Sage’s own Prognosis shield breaks. That’s the AOE GCD heal/shield. This means that you can get more Toxikon charges by shielding allies from big AOEs, especially when you needed to run anyway and have to use it to keep moving. I am going to get SO MANY Toxikon charges this way. I love it.
And machinist! Hypercharge is a stack-based thing now! 5 stacks with a timer extended to 10 seconds. And it got Dismantle back. It’s like half of what I wanted for it, but I’ll take it.
edit: and why are they adding buttons for the tanks to turn off their stance instead of just... hitting the same button again like before
edit 2: and now I have a whole 10 seconds to fire all my Hypercharges instead of 8? c'mon, gimme more than that
Seriously. Reaper gets 30 seconds on Enshroud. If the limiting factor on Heat Blast is now stacks instead of time, you can afford to give them a long timer on it.
Yeah, but having stacks means they can extend the timer even more without changing its DPS potential at all. Unless that somehow leads to a double hypercharge burst window or something?
Hypercharge Now grants 5 stacks of Overheated.
Effect duration has been increased from 8 to 10 seconds.
Wildfire The effect of Wildfire can now be stacked a maximum of 6 times.
Aren't these nerfs? Are these not caps on abilities that were previously uncapped or am I missing something?
I thiiiiiiink you could only get 5 heat blasts off in hypercharge before, so it's neutral except for making it easier to get all 5 shots off with high latency, and the cap on wildfire is also so that you can't get an extra stack of that with low ping compared to before.

8 seconds divided by a 1.5 second cooldown on heat blast comes out to 5.333 uses of Heat Blast per Hypercharge. Rounded down (because you can never actually use that third of a heat blast), you’d be able to get maximum 5 uses of it per Hypercharge.
Heat Blast was also the fastest GCD you could use in Wildfire. Getting all 5 and then one last normal GCD was the most you could squeeze into it previously.
The stacks on Hypercharge and the cap on Wildfire are simply enforcing maximums that were already there simply due to mathematical limits on the moves in question. They’re making it so that adding quality of life changes to the skills don’t buff their power.
Another interesting thing is that Royal Authority and Atonement are the same potency now, so it doesn't actually matter which one you put in the burst window. So technically you can save a Divine Might stack (tooltip says it's a 30 second duration) and get two buffed holy spirits for a 70 potency gain in burst windows outside of the opener.
So something like Fast Blade > Rage of Halone + late weave Fight or Flight > Holy Spirt > Royal Authority > Goring Blade > Holy Spirit + Requiescat > Confiteor combo.
Basically you have 6 GCDs that you really, really want to get into your FoF windows (confiteor combo + DM buffed Holy Spirit + Goring Blade) and then 2 filler GCDs. Just using atonement stacks for those is the easy mode, but if you map everything out properly to line up FoF right after Rage of Halone you could theoretically get an extra buffed Holy Spirit in for a decent gain.
I'm still having a little trouble figuring out what the path from Requiescat through the Confiteor/Blades combo is supposed to be now
This is what my MT friend is posting in discord:
I don't really speak PLD (or tank, really) so I'm not sure how helpful that is? I smile and nod the way he does when I rattle off AST stuff.
edit- he keeps comparing it to gunbreaker in a lot of ways except that PLD is allergic to skill speed.
Yeah, this is what I gathered.
So when you first get Requiescat, you want to use it by spamming Holy Spirit/Circle as you used to do.
At 80, you still do that, but also use Confiteor. But now you can use Confiteor for any of the four charges, not just the last one. Or you can use it without Requiescat, but the damage will be dogshit.
At 90, you go straight into Confiteor, followed by the 3-part combo instead of using any Holy Spirit/Circle.
What I'm impressed by is the foresight in the potential of needing to use both Requiescat AND the Holy Spirit/Circle combo buff, so they explicitly have the combo buff prioritized so that you can safely use HS/C first without messing up Requiescat.
So it seems like they really went for three things with the rework:
1. Condensed the Requiescat phase from 4 HS + Conf combo to just the Conf combo.
2. Turned FoF into a full damage buff (not just physical buff) so that PLD has a full-fledged burst window.
3. Removed the DoT damage from Goring Blade and made it into even more burst.
PLD has always had a lack of burst in favor of sustained damage. However, that doesn't really work with their 120s synced CD philosophy they're currently employing, which is why PLD DPS has suffered so much this xpac.
Okay I just tested it
Swapped to Dark Knight, no stance, hit Grit
Grit then becomes Release Grit
I guess it's so you can tell by looking at the button if you have your stance on or not, though there's a much bigger indicator of that on your gauge so, again, no idea what the thought process here was
I just assume it had something to do with how the server processes requests and turning the stance on/off into two different abilities may help on the backend in some situation that we're not aware of.
I assume it's because newer players mainly focus on their ability bars, not their buff indicators, so you can now tell immediately if tank stance is on or not.
Oh my god the cutscene with Zero and the buuz? The taped paper bag and the steaming dumplings oh my god i need takeout nooooowwww!
I was doing it around noonish EST and shout chat collectively decided we needed lunch, and then bemoaned that, somehow, NONE of us had a bao place within easy delivery distance.

seriously the animators went ALL OUT with that
The new dungeon had to be a mostly unimpressive cave to allocate budget for the custom dough tearing animation, but it was worth it.

the MCH hypercharge change is just to make it more forgiving for latency I think
MCH get DR
DNC gets shield/regen
BRD gets boost to healing
They should do similar stuff to melee jobs too.

some of us are fat finger dumbasses who accidentally hit the button in the middle of a dungeon.
