[Nintendo Switch] THIS THREAD IS DEAD! POST IN THE NEW ONE!
My daughter was looking through the Switch menu and asked me what "Dig 2" was. 4 hours later and she's having a great time. About 50% of the way through the first area already with a few upgrades and reached the human settlement.
Her first Metroidvania. *Sniff* I'm so proud!
Edit: "Daddy! I got a grappling hook so I now I can reach that one area from before!!!"

Dig 2 is super fun. If she is the type who likes to do secret hard levels, make sure she gets the jetpack, though. I paid for the wrong upgrades and would have had to grind an empty overworld to play the secret level at the end : (

It's not too hard, has some fun little combat sections and good music. Having a version with more cutscenes and voice acting would probably improve the whole package. Though they are a little on the cheesecakey side, it wasn't until Valis X that they turned into erotic visual novels.

X? There's ten of them? Yeesh.
Also, I don't think IV is on that set.
Valis IV came out in 1992, Valis X came out in 2006, there are no games between the two.

Yeah, it's not "X" as in "ten", it's "X" as "NO, INCORRECT, FORBIDDEN".
I was going in Radiant Silver gun completely blind and wow this game has a lot to unpack with its chaining system, level up system, the sword and 8(?) different weapons at your fingertips.
Took me watching some tips and tricks to understand how the game wants you to play it and I love how riskier you get the more it rewards you.
Love how story mode let's you keep the XP for you weapons but only gives you 3 lives versus arcade mode with up to 10 lives and continues.
Has some music looping issues but so far it's still such a treat.

There is a manual. For this era of gaming I think it's expected that you read it. (and really, Nintendo could probably do better integrating these into the games themselves.)
Here and there I'm getting more evidence of manuals just being ignored even in their day, and it just saddens me to think that the greedy corporations were more or less right to cut them.

Being knee deep in Xenoblade 3, I just want to make sure that I have it completed to my satisfaction before Mario Rabbids 2 comes out. I should be good...but man, this game is huge.
I'm 70 hours in, only on chapter 5, and my entire party is way over-leveled at 67 each.
I know it got released in rough shape and still has some issues, but I have to admit playing GTA San Andreas on a Nintendo handheld is sort of magical to me. I'm glad I didn't pay full price though.

It turns out Ubisoft was as protective of the Rabbids as Nintendo is with Mario, and one of their directives for the first game was that Rabbids should never, ever talk under any circumstances.
But then Soliani realized that no one told him Rabbids couldn't sing...
Anyone ever had issues with joycons disconnecting in handheld mode on the OLED model? It feels random, but I have definitely gotten it to quickly dis- and re-connect by wiggling it in a certain manner before.
I don't think the OLED has improved at all in this regard. Joy-cons are always designed to have some wiggle, eventually they can wiggle enough that they fail to make contact, or else the rail on the system itself can become damaged, or the contacts dirtied, etc.
Anyone ever had issues with joycons disconnecting in handheld mode on the OLED model? It feels random, but I have definitely gotten it to quickly dis- and re-connect by wiggling it in a certain manner before.
I had an issue where the right joycon just didn't have as tight a connection to the Switch anymore. Slight pressure up on the joycon would cause it to disconnect from the system, but not disconnect enough to fully "snap" off and register as a lone joycon. Took me forever to properly diagnose this because it simply presents as the joycon going dead for no reason. My solution was to put a small piece of tape on the corner of the Switch, right under the rail. It creates enough friction that it's harder to connect and disconnect the joycon. But I never remove them anyways so it just stops me pushing up enough.
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
Yeah I've had two switch models over the years and both have developed problems with the rails.
I would kill for a switch lite that can dock to a TV. I don't want to detach the controllers, but I do want the ability to play on TV.
I just had a moment that scared me. I pulled the switch out of my pocket by the right joycon and it slipped out of the rail. Luckily I caught it before it hit the floor but when I slid it back in I noticed I can easily just pull it out with little to no effort.
For me it's not even that it's loose. I've seen videos where the clip broke off and it no longer stays in place. Mine still feels secure and snappy. But apparently I can just break the electrical connection with a tiny amount of upwards force. Which again was a nightmare to figure out that was the problem, because the joycon goes dead but the system doesn't make the "snap!" disconnect noise.
I've been having more and more drift problems lately, and electrical contact cleaner doesn't seem to be working as well as it used to. I think I might just bite the bullet and get new controllers, but actually get those Hori ones with the bigger sticks. Not being wireless isn't a problem because they're never coming off the system anyways, and I use the pro controller for docked play.

It's easier than you might think to simply replace the sticks with aftermarket ones, you only really need to be cognizant of the particularly delicate ribbon cables Nintendo uses to connect them to the circuit board.

Joycons are definitely not designed to be taken apart by hand, even if you can. I'm not sure how they manage to reliably attach the ribbon cables in the first place, are there specialized tools for that sort of thing?
If you can make sure that at least the front and back remain attached, you'll save yourself a lot of hassle while putting it back together.

I've found it significantly easier to replace the stick on both my Joycons than most cell phones I've worked on. Of course, relative experience and all that.
Once you get in there it may be pretty self-evident what's going on, but ifixit also has simple 12-step guides on how to do it(1, 2). The ribbon cables are typically set into the ZIF connector with tweezers easy enough, you don't want to mess with those with just fingers.
If your Joycons are already unusable at this point then you've really got nothing left to lose anyway except maybe the couple bucks the aftermarket joysticks will run you.
Joycons aren't that hard to do, but there are steps to be careful and aware of before you go taking them apart. iFixit has good step-by-step guides and tell you what kinds of tools you'll need as well.

So with the most recent Direct, can we say that the Life Sim genre has become a bit overstuffed? Reminds me of the WW2 FPS and Platformers during the PS2 era.
The success of Stardew Valley must have had a hand in everyone wanting to do one. Especially in the indie scene, it's become crazy how many are popping up.
With that said, Bear and Breakfast is the one Life Sim game that has me thinking about grabbing it. It just looks so charming.

It's very weird to me that this is only happening now when Stardew came out how many years ago? I can't think of anything more recent that would account for the sudden surge (maybe Animal Crossing? But that's not really a farming game).

Funny you should mention that...
Okay, no, it's not coming back, but I damn sure couldn't resist after that timely callout.
They really should give us updates of the NES Zeldas, though.
And no, Breath of the Wild doesn't count as an update of Zelda 1.
Kills me they made the assets for a 16-bit Zelda 1, though, and only ever used them in that BS spin-off.
Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!

There's some metal replacements you can install, but that kind of risks damaging your switch rail rather than the joy-con.
