Definitely helped me when I was younger. I never read a book or anything but playing FF games and Dragon Warrior definitely helped.

I feel like I've probably said this before in the thread, but oh well...I'm not terribly interested in No Man's Sky on the Switch as I've got it on PC, and the Switch version lacks settlements (too many little pieces, graphically intensive, however not a big part of the game either) and also online (probably due to the fact it lacks settlements and won't be able to sync data across clients).

However in spite of that, it sounds like they've done an amazing job of porting it, all things considered. The game had been known as a resource hog for years, but you get practically the whole experience on this old little machine. So good on Hello Games for all their hard work and I hope it sells well to people who are looking for that kind of experience on Switch.

On the other side of things, Skyrim Anniversary Edition is running very poorly. 25 FPS often, crashes after an hour unless you delete the game and do a fresh install...then it will only crash every 4 hours. Some speculate it's mostly due to the survival mode, most are confident that it's due to all the added Creation Club content which is just too much.

Bethesda knows and say they are working on it.

I… I think I might be insane? I kinda wanna buy No Man’s Sky on Switch. Despite it being a bit neutered version (I don’t do a LOT of multi-player, but I do like the nexus and being able to go to other bases).

If it was just a fresh save I wanted, my PC version is right there. There’s probably even going to be an expedition (fresh save by definition).

What am I even thinking? Do I just wanna see it on my big tv? See if they’ve really done the impossible? Give Sean Murray more (well deserved) money?

I've done similar things before. Sometimes there's a purity to the experience, it's self-contained, unmodded, uninfluenced by people who stroll by the nexus and dump billion dollar items in your inventory unprompted...

It's why I have Skyrim Switch. It's like proving to yourself that you could do the whole thing without modding or hacking, with the added benefit of having it on a little portable device.

I am still so torn on if I wanna rebuy NieR just because it's way easier to play my Switch than my PS4 :P (I bought it for PS4 when it was on sale for like $20 once but never got around to playing) I ain't buying shit until I beat Xenoblade tho.

Ah, this sounds familiar for Gamestop. One of the main reasons I don't pre-order from there if I can avoid it (online seems mostly ok tho, just in-store is bad). Amazon is even worse if you can believe it :P

    Um, normal.

I went into it completely blind so I wasn't quite expecting how the game just throws everything at you from the beginning, including switching between different genres.
Also, I haven't played a game like it since DMC4 so I will probably switch it to easy until I get some of that muscle memory back.

My main problem with Nier Automata is that there were elements that were great, but having to hike through open open, ooooooopen areas with very little landmarks or things to do drove me nuts. The moment that broke me is when I found a crying robot in the ass-end of one biome demanding to be escorted to the ass-end of another biome, but she moved incredibly slowly.

I will tell my story of Nier Automata.

The first time I tried to play it, I made it to the boss of the tutorial area, and apparently dodge rolled against some wall or something as I was hit, which clipped me into the wall, where I was permanently trapped and it was unable to hit me, so I was just completely softlocked.

The second time I tried to play it, I made it through that, through the excessively long intro bit of walking around the base, through the shmup intro section and was dropped into a wasteland and told to go north (or whatever). There was a building in the way, so I went through it, in the process somehow falling down an elevator shaft, which took off about 50% of my health. At this point, I was stuck in an elevator shaft with the camera refusing to point anywhere but straight down at me, and anything that changed it, such as jumping or moving, would cause it to swing wildly, fucking up my perspective and movement, so it took me a solid minute or two just to get out. At this point, I make it out of the fucking building to an open field where some fucking deer charges me from off-camera, knocks me over, and then finishes me off before I'm able to recover. Game over.

I've not had any urge to play Nier Automata since then.

It's a shame that the intro of Nier Automata is as difficult as it is, because once you make it a bit into the game and unlock and earn various upgrades, the difficulty on normal drops pretty sharply.

Yeah, if you have trouble dodging like I did, there are enough ways to get health on hit and health on kill that you effectively stay invincible even on normal. But the beginning stretch can be a slog.

Personal pro tip for Automata is that the dodge is insanely over the top OP when you realize there is essentially no downside to spamming it.

You rarely need to time it. You can just mash that sucker when you are worried and keep on blasting away like its nothing.

Throw on some heal on hit abilities and thats the entire game.

There was exactly 1 boss where I momentarily thought I was going to have to actually start trying to play properly. But I spammed through that too.

I died at the latter parts of the hour-long intro TWICE, and had to start the whole thing over.

I mean, loads of people love it, I'm sure that there's lots to the game that's great. I'm assuming? But woof, there's some flaws. Maybe I should just abandon the loudly crying robot and see if I can find the good stuff.
