I thought about trying that if I ever get to Hyrule Warriors AoC. I own it, but I read about horrible performance, decided to wait for a possible patch, and haven't gone back yet. But it is not an attractive general solution for me, because while I enjoy Zelda on the big screen, I just love playing my Switch in bed

I honestly never found the performance that bad on AoC (like it's not buttery smooth 60fps but it doesn't exactly chug either). It sure as hell runs better than Korok Forest in Breath of the Wild :P Sometimes I think people expect too much from a game that has to display like a hundred models on screen at once :P
In any case, hoping that a "Switch 2" can upscale this stuff in an official capacity. Like, just running stuff at steady framerates and higher resolutions would be pretty sweet.
I didn't think AoC ran noticeably bad? I played it purely handheld, even.
Then again I also played it when I was hospitalized with a severe case of COVID and I was on loads of medication, so maybe my experience isn't comparable.

Yeah, the BotW slowdowns are really...it feels like I'm back on the N64 sometimes. That's a bit harsh, but, y'know.
I legit will be curious to compare some of the worst areas in BotW and see if they run better in Tears of the Kingdom. Like, Korok Forest was hands down the worst. But it also chugged quite a bit around Lake Hylia/Faron region too (and IIRC parts of Akkala?).
I am still honestly really amazed at what they were able to render in just the little bits of gameplay they've shown already (Monolith magic no doubt - they somehow can just *do* amazing looking and yet very performant worlds. They worked on the original BotW but would not be shocked if they had a bigger hand in TotK)

The funny thing is, since emulation was mentioned: I read that BotW runs badly on a switch emulator as well. A WiiU emulator would be the way to go, which is where people play it on whatever resolution, constant 60fps. Which, and I'm not a computer doctor, reads to me that they couldn't get it to work on the Switch since it's built for another architecture. Raw horsepower apparently can't fix it.
I am curious if and what changed for TotK though. Six years is a long time.

It never ceases to amaze me how beautiful BotW looks at 4k60 with slightly improved texture filtering, shadow resolution, and increased draw distance. Like that's all you have to do, the art design was so good that even 6 years on it looks spectacular.
Question for anyone that layer Kirby Dreamland Deluxe.
What's up with the minigames in Magoland or whatever also being elsewhere in the game but behind locks?
I'm just really confused why that's a thing at all and what I'm missing there.
In the original version of the game on Wii, the minigame doors in the Lor Starcutter were the only place you could play the mini games. It would appear that rather than redesigning the ship’s interior to a major extent, they kept the game room area in the ship (though the available games are different).
Meanwhile, Magoland is entirely about playing mini games, so I assume they did not want to lock it behind main game progress.
———
As for why they came to these decisions, my guess is that there were separate teams working on the main game and Magoland, and the redundancy either didn’t come up or wasn’t considered an issue.

Ahhh ok well that certainly explains it! Thank you. It's one of those things that doesn't really matter but was so odd I was just curious if i was missing something or of there was some reason.

After selling 23 million Switches two years ago and 18 million in the last year, Nintendo expects demand for the aging console to continue to fall. It's forecasting sales of 15 million for next year (fiscal year 2024) and isn't even confident of that figure, the company announced in its latest earnings report. "Sustaining the Switch’s sales momentum will be difficult in its seventh year," said President Shuntaro Furukawa in a call. "Our goal of selling 15 million unit this fiscal year is a bit of stretch."
To achieve that, the company said that it will focus on selling second and even third consoles to people who already own one. "We try to not only put one system in every home, but several in every home, or even one for every person."
Why would you clone Andy. He's like the worst CO? Literally anybody else would perform better. Unless it's some big brain plan to intentionally lose?
Also, Sturm is total BS. His units are ridiculous, and also his CO power is absurd.
The point of Clone Andy was to frame Orange Star. I suppose they could have gone with Clone Max or whatever. Clone Nell would have been a dead giveaway because she's crazy broken (at least in the original).
And yeah, Sturm sucks. His power is supposed to be slow to charge but he has so much gas that you need to be blowing up huge amounts of his stuff every turn, and losing your own units builds up your gauge 4x faster than destroying enemy units. Consequently he was dropping that Meteor darn near every second turn.
Just keep in mind that any damage you cause to an enemy while their power is active doesn't contribute to their power meter. So if you can swing a major counterattack on your turn while the enemy CO's power is active, they don't get any benefit from it. I used that to some effect last night when I beat the Gold Comet factory mission in AW2. Of course, I still got like a C because that map is a huge pain. I ought to go look up a strat on Youtube, I'm curious how the game expects you to do so much better of a job on that map.

Interesting, though I suppose not super surprising. I guess they wanna try to get one last holiday season out of the Switch before killing it off. I still think we're getting an announcement of this console this year tho
I tried to have two Switches, but Nintendo's dumb system of not allowing an account to be playing on two systems at once made it unusable. Not sure how they expect to sell more systems to the same people if they keep that up. I gave my old system to my nephew for his birthday. Kept my OLED.
Super Switch had better be backwards compatible with my current Switch digital collection too, or I'll probably be out for another two generations like when I skipped N64 and Gamecube.
Here's hoping though!

I kinda assume it would be. Switch doesn't really have any weird gimmick that makes it hard to support backwards compatibility. And Nintendo has tended to support one year back ever since the Wii (and on the handheld side, since the beginning). Wii U is like the only exception since the gamepad was so weird and specific to those games.
I agree though, hopefully they'll think through the account system better this time around.

Corroborating this, seems Furakawa said on the investor's call after the earnings report that no new hardware is coming for this upcoming fiscal year, at least according to a paywalled Bloomberg article sourced in this VGC article.
Hm, since their fiscal year starts up in the spring, then a new hardware release then would have Switch 2 sales in all four quarters, making the company look strong and pleasing the hell out of stockholders. Likely similar thinking went into the Switch's launch.
Granted the company would have to ride out a year of declining sales, but sales in the neighborhood of 12 million are still really good for a seven-year-old console.

Yeah, they've also got Zelda and Pokemon DLC to boost those numbers (and I guess Pikmin 4 if they can actually get this one to sell). Maybe throw in one more big title for this holiday and that should get them through just fine. (edit: Oh, Prime 4. There ya go... maybe it's actually coming out this year)

Mind you no one is saying it's planned for Spring. They are just saying it's not in this fiscal year. And that just means its definitely not anytime before next spring as that's when the fiscal year ends.
It could easily be planned for fall or holiday 2024.
I believe the call said the launch won't be ready for spring, implying something later in the year

I feel like 6 years on and sales are only now declining isn't really something to be upset about. I mean who exists at this point who wants a Switch but doesn't have one (or several)?
"We try to not only put one system in every home, but several in every home, or even one for every person."
I wonder if this is why they have really dumb policies around stuff like animal crossing islands.
Animal Crossing is just them stubbornly sticking to tradition. The idea for the first game started with asynchronous multiplayer with your family, like what your kids did during the day affected the parents in the evening and vice versa. It was the entire point of the game to the designers. That families back in the day might have bought extra memory cards, just to keep their islands separate, hardly entered their mind. Nor did they adapt to the kind of mindset opened up by the new ability to visit other people's islands.

The line cannot be allowed to go down. If the line goes down the company is dooooooomed.
The theory behind how animal crossing works is sound. It's a collaborative game where everyone shares one island. So I may play for an hour, pick fruits, go fishing, etc, then someone else goes and does the same later in the day on the same island.
I actually like the concept of people sharing an island, like you share a living space, I think that's the best way to play the game. But I do agree that there should have been an option to separate things.
Switch was originally a March release, correct? While I'd love to see the Super Nintendo Switch (that's really the best name) come out this year, they've skipped the holiday season before and they can do it again.
Alright, got all the shrines, really happy with the reward you get
I like that the botw version of the classic Link outfit has short shorts. And, because I'm me, I have to upgrade it to the max before I venture into the castle proper. Dragon part farming is annoying, but what can you do!

Isn't March the end of the fiscal year? So it'd be April at the earliest, I think? Either way, make it backwards compatible, boost performance of Switch games, and giveittome
