Haven't touched my Switch in over a year but with TotK release I went and got a voucher.
Now for the 2nd game. Metroid Dread or go for Pikmin 4?
Dread seems to have reviewed well. Not sure what other big games might be coming in the near future
Dread is fantastic, but just a heads-up, compared to previous Metroids, this one has some stressful quick movement situations and more quick twitch counterattack moments, which I know turned some off
Personally I enjoyed it, really drove home the Dread title
I don't know if it's an option (or even a good use given the price), but for my money Metroid Prime Remastered is a better Metroid game than Dread in every conceivable measure.
Which isn't to say I didn't like Dread, I did (though I liked Samus Returns better, as a more "modern" 2D Metroid)!
Even for a game I've played through many times over the years, Prime is just up there with Galaxy, BotW, etc as the best of their IP, for me.
It's really, really good, and all the little fine tunings, graphical updates, performance, and controls just makes the Switch version one of the best games on the console, despite it being like 22 years old.
I mean, Metroid Prime 1 is the best Metroid game, straight up. I know this will make Super Metroid stans come at me, but I'm ready to die on this hill.
But Dread is an excellent Metroid game and if you've already played Prime 1 in the original version going with Dread is an extremely solid choice.
there's gacha machines you can get many copies of gimmick parts from pretty easily, probably found one that can drop rocket bits and did a lot of pulls.

Probably. I found
a single one in a cave, along with SICK car parts, including a steering unit. I really hope that stuff comes out of one of those gachas as well
Metroid Prime was a great game that has aged into a pretty good game. It has a lot of meh design choices, and Samus navigates the world like Nancy climbing the goop stairs in A Nightmare on Elm Street. Metroid Dread is a pretty good game that could've been a great game if they didn't load it up with repetitive mini-boss fights. The number of times they locked the door and made you kill another minor variation of the same fucking mini-boss was ridiculous.

Prime Remastered isn't a voucher game because its full price is "only" $40. So it plus a $60 wouldn't be a discount at all.
The winning move for vouchers is TotK and another full priced game. I don't know if another $70 game is coming though. Probably not within the year limit.
I've sang MP Remastered 's praises in here before, so I'll simply add that it easily top 10 all time, top 3 Switch, and top Metroid. It's not even close.
Taking bets on how Samus will lose all her upgrades/powers at the start of the next Metroid game.
I'm going with slips on a bananna peel.
She’ll forget her system password, tries to guess too many times and gets locked out.
I mean, do you blame her? I lost hundreds of hours on NES Metroid because I wrote a character down wrong. The game include 0 and O as options. It sucked.

I actually recently replayed Metroid and Super Metroid. They're both still great, though obviously NES Metroid shows its age. While I haven't replayed Metroid 2 in a while, I watched a stream not too long ago, and it's really amazing what they managrd to pack into a Game Boy cart with that one.
Really Metroid is just an amazing series, though I did skip the Wii generation because motion controls weren't for me.

I’m just waiting patiently for them to add Zero Mission to the online service. God I love that game. It’s a perfect, tight 2D Metroid experience. Better controls than Super, no story to slow you down like Fusion. It really doesn’t get enough love from Nintendo.
So... does Tears of the Kingdom make everyone's Switch sound like a jet engine? It's a launch Switch so getting on a bit, and it does often have a blast of loud fan on other games starting, but they usually settle pretty quick.
not in handheld, haven't tried playing docked. Your vents might be dusty?
e: though I am using headphones so maybe I just haven't noticed. The system hasn't seemed particularly warm or anything though.

That sucks. I upgraded my launch Switch to the Tears OLED version since I was jealous of my wife's OLED, plus we play exclusively in handheld mode.
Edit: I remember my launch Switch sounding like a jet engine on some of the Fire Emblem games where there were too many people on the screen, so wouldn't be surprised if TotK doing the same thing.

Look at the backplate of your Switch. "mod. HAC-001" is the O.G. HAC-001(-01) is the "redbox" V2. Might be more variants out there between the OLED and the Lite now, but they are all based on the same Mariko revision that uses much less power.
How are we defining "jet engine" sound here? Because I have one of these early Switch's. There are a handful of games I've noticed the fan going pretty hard. It's loud in that I can hear it, but still well in white noise territory. Jet engine territory is what I'd call the PS4 late in its life.
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
Should mention I did end up replacing my V1 Switch fan at some point because the sound had become extremely noisy, far worse than on purchase. Practically a buzzing. Still a device that pushes a lot of hot air now but it sounds much quieter at least.
Edit: also TotK, like BotW before it, is an uncommon game in that it uses 460 mhz GPU clock in handheld instead of the standard 384. Only a relative handful of games do this, like Odessey, or Doom and Mortal Kombat dynamically dip into it. Even other first-party games like Bowser's fury or the Xenoblades are stuck at 384, so I have to think there are some restrictions around its use.

I call anything running full fan speed jet engine. Especially when you are laying in a bed and have a young puppy that wakes up with any sound.
Thank goodness she's almost 18 months old and sleeps fine, but those early months I couldn't even play button mashing games.
I was miserable for most of the tutorial island, baffled as to why I was putting so much work into rafts and 6 DMG stabby-sticks.
I'm committed to a BotK run at this moment, so I'll wait till Dunky's inedible video where he shows all the fun wacky stuff.
You don’t have to do nearly as much crafting as some people like to make out. Creative use of Ultrahand and Recall will get you a lot of places. Especially the two in combination.

Yeah I can't tell you the number of times I've seen piles of parts that the devs were clearly using to signal to me what they wanted me to do with them, but I basically ignored and just climbed or used an ability. There's lots of ways to get really high really fast that don't involve slapping together fighter jets or hot air balloons (even though that's a lot of fun, the tutorial island doesn't give you any of the fun stuff).
I like crafting games in theory but I find that usually the execution is tedious or overwhelming, so I tend to skip them. The 'crafting' in this game is not like that and I'd encourage you to give it a chance. The times I've failed spectacularly I was too busy laughing to be frustrated.
I was guilty of posting about it here once yesterday, but reminder we're trying to keep zelda discussion in the zelda thread. I hope people are being considerate of spoiler tags over there.

Now that I have an OLED I gifted my 2017 model to my brother and his family. They have a Wii and he's not super into gaming but my sister-in-law has made him play Mario Galaxy and now they have a kid who's (of course) into Minecraft. I let them borrow a care package of games I'm not using because I'm 100% focused on TotK.
Odyssey and Mario Kart were givens. I insisted they play Bowser's Fury. Link's Awakening and Paper Mario made the cut. I may have slipped a Metroid in there when no one was looking.
I'm not saying I'm the best sibling/uncle on Earth, but that's exactly what I'm saying.
This is general Switch discussion more than Zelda. I've played about 4 hours of Zelda, roughly 3 in handheld, 1 on the TV.
We really need a Switch 2, and this game really, really needed a Switch 2. I am not having any less fun with Zelda as of now. But you can just so clearly see where the compromises had to be made to get this game running at even 720p at 30 (mostly). And to be clear, I'm not even annoyed about the game being 720p30. Would I prefer to play at 1440p high refresh rate like I do on PC? Absolutely. But 720p 30 is livable, especially on the Switch screen. I also play a lot of games on Steam Deck, and am perfectly happy with 720p30 there.
But to see the compromises that needed to be made in terms of the look of the game. I feel like the art style is there to hide the deficiences of the hardware. textures and graphics look extremely muddy/smeary. The world is definitely more vibrant than Breath of the Wild and I actually think they have done wonders getting it as good as they have, but you can just see how the game is hamstrung from being the best version of itself because of the hardware.
That doesn't take away from the fun of the game, and oh boy I'm looking forward to trying some nutty things and am probably going to dump 80 hours into it. But the game could just be so much more, look so much better, etc if it just had a little bit more hardware to work with.
I’m convinced all the Switch 2 needs to be is the same thing but with a healthy spec bump. This isn’t a wheel they need to reinvent. I paid $350 for an OLED, which is great, but I would easily pay more for a Switch 2 that could run games at 1080x60 or thereabouts.

sick
where tf did they get so many of those
Probably. I found
I would rank them both below Zero Mission.
Really hard to pass up the chance at a new pikmin game though. Should hook up my wiiu and play through 3 again.

My poor PS4 sounds like it's in labor when I play anything on it, not that it's been turned on in ages.
