One other thing about Fuser. HMX did come up with a way to unlock all the Diamond Store content. They just packaged it into two packs and set the price to zero. Diamond Store content is stuff that was all on-disc but to unlock it you would spend Diamonds you'd earn by playing the game. This included 25-30 beat/loop tracks as well as extra instruments and effects. So if you're reading this and have Fuser, you have at least three more days to get these items.
Since the approval of Disney's acquisition of two-thirds of all western media, I'm skeptical of what the largest governments are actually meaningfully capable of doing to prevent monopolies, so it's more encouraging to root a reversal of the disintegration of labor organization that happened under multiple decades of a highly competitive industry landscape prior to monopolization.
That's been your labor news for the day.

Speaking of labor, I posted the CMA statement earlier but apparently I missed the AFL-CIO’s press release.

Oh man I love it. I wish the PS5 and the Switch would do this kind of thing.
I don't know about the Switch, but PS5 has a pretty wide plethora of dynamic wallpapers, I thought? The PS4 does; mine is still using the Final Fantasy VII Remake promo from the demo, Remake Tifa sitting on the watertower, complete with a charming/annoying rendition of her theme.

Wow. You know it's "bad" when the AFL-CIO--the largest federation of labor in the United States, historically a conservative-minded organization--comes out and says, "In your race to protect us from another rising corporate empire, you (the FTC) have made it evident that you do not give a shit about labor. You just want to make sure there are a bunch of competing organizations to treat them like shit instead. Huh." They even cited the European regulatory rebuke to the FTC's claim that Microsoft broke their word with the Zenimax acquisition. That's a pretty darn specific critique.

I think it's pretty telling that the FTC doesn't actually really intend to take their legal action to federal court, it's mostly posturing for political brownie points because to not at least show a display of force for one of the largest M&As in the tech sector would be ridiculous
It would make them look toothless after their recent promises to be more scrutinizing and less spineless when it comes to allowing these kinds of deals. I am empathetic when it comes to the principle of that.
They've also just chosen a poor hill to die on. Microsoft have now stated multiple times to commit to present their case in court so they have called the bluff and by most accounts they would be in a good position to have the case thrown out after reasonable legal scrutiny
Digging into the weeds of organized labor, there's a valid if simplistic complaint that the AFL-CIO, and by extension the CWA under them, are all tools of corporate interests and it's not surprising they'd side with "such a bullshit argument". The AFL-CIO is, as I noted, a historically traditionalist organization, it's largely the reason they still exist.
Unfortunately, you can't really translate that into an argument that the FTC, of all things, is actually rising to the defense of labor in response, given basically all the behavior of the Federal Trade Commission ever. Even the FTC has never claimed to be interested in plight of labor, they literal act in defense of competing businesses in the marketplace. You might as well claim that banning Tiktok, as has been proposed, has nothing to do with geopolitical rivalry and hostility with China (and their communications and tech industry), it's all about defending American workers (employed by American corporate and government mass surveillance).
(Granted, that's also basically means it is true about all existing institutional organized labor at least in the United States, which is an argument that exists. Just ask the Trotskyites who run WSWS.org.)

The desired FTC's outcome is, after all, "Activision-Blizzard-King remains an independent, publicly traded business." Which, from a standpoint of fierce competition among distinct entities, is understandably desirable.
It's not actually "beneficial" from the perspective of worker treatment. Activision-Blizzard has been treating their employees like shit for years, well before they were entertaining buyouts. A failure to secure one wouldn't actually translate to that changing either in the positive or the negative, practically by design. Frankly, the atmosphere of "fierce competition among distinct companies", if looked at over several decades (the maturation of corporations like Activision and Blizzard, their own mergers, etc.), has seen worker treatment suffer, not improve. It'd be interesting to see how worker's treatment and rights improved (or got worse) under the consolidation of Sony Pictures and Sony Music, or into the massive umbrella under Disney more recently.
Microsoft having a stated position--even one as seemingly lukewarm and indifferent as "neutrality"--actually stands out. It's also the cyclical effect of the statement bringing them public eye, which in turn puts them under greater pressure to honor their statement, and so forth. Though you can cynically argue that it's a "magic word" that forces the complaint lapdogs at the AFL-CIO or CWA to take Microsoft's side in this particular argument (except you can't really argue that the FTC has done anything to warrant labor rejecting Microsoft's argument for the FTC's, seeing how the latter seems to not consider labor relevant to the topic).

Ok that was pretty scummy, the quarry was on sale for 50% on the Xbox store, I didn’t get it, but then immediately when that sale ended it went to 67% off, that’s pretty sleazy. Like imagine if you bought it at 50% thinking the sale was going to end

Immediately ask for a refund.
It was for Never Alone years ago (a simple if educational platforming game about indigenous Alaskan culture), where the base game was discounted but the game combined with the DLC was discounted even more, and I immediately asked Xbox for a refund and even explained my reasoning, "I want to get the better deal," and they gave me one.
I played 45 minutes or so of High On Life out of spite for the hater reviews. Nothing terribly off putting so far. You can definitely tell it's Justin without Dan to tone him down. I can see a few of your "companions" getting tiresome over long play sessions. Nothing has really caught me yet, but I'll give it some more play eventually.
I love Justin and his sense of humor but I don't think I can stomach his voices for that long of a game. It's cool how many YouTubers and otherwise neat people he cast in the game tho
I didn’t actually buy it, I held off, so I was lucky, but I got close, and just thinking what a dick move it was for the company to do that
t
Not really sure how the company is being a dick by offering a product for a reduced price for a period of time as part of a sale, and then offering the product as part of another sale at a deeper discount though? o_O
IIRC, The Quarry's even gone on sale for 40% off while giving away a DLC that they now charge for too?

Sales have like a countdown to when the sale ends, so the majority of the time when the sale ends it goes back to its full price, so there’s a pressure on consumers who are interested to make the purchase before that happens, otherwise they lose that deal. Here someone could’ve bought it for 50%, and then like within an hour it’s 67% off, it’s being a dick because it’s screwing people out of the better deal by minutes. It’s 100% a dick move
Or you could buy it an hour before it goes on sale. Or you could miss/skip the sale waiting for a better price and then it never goes on sale again.
Or you could look at xbox.com and see that all editions of the game are priced at 50% off. The price tracker at TA is even showing the current sale price for all editions as being the lowest it has ever been. What are you even talking about?
Yes but an hour before a sale goes up you don’t know there’s going to be a sale. An hour before a sale ends you know it’s going back up in price, so there is a pressure on the customer there to buy it now or wait for the next sale. Or at least that’s how it works 99% or the time. And I’m talking about it was 50% for the next gen standard version when the last sale ended, and then they immediately started a new sale for 67% on the standard next gen version
That’s what I’m talking about. If this wasn’t a dick move then they wouldn’t give people the new sales price if you complained, which they will. So basically that’s them admitting on Xbox’s end that it’s kind of a dick move
This is an Australian sale I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I’m literally tracking the game and saw it go from 50% when the previous sale ended, immediately to 67% on the same edition

I don't know. I guess this is probably something we won't agree on... which is fine!
But to me it feels no different than buying something when it's new, full price only to have it go on sale the next day isn't a dick move from the seller. And as you said, a person could have just as likely lost out on the any deal by waiting to see if there's another one coming up and then there not being one. Not to mention it's the holiday season so there's not much of an incentive to exclude an item from a sale just because it was on sale with a lesser discount previously, especially in a digital market.

I find Rick and Morty occasionally funny in a way that makes me exhale a puff of air through my nostrils, but more often deeply unfunny in a way that makes me audibly go "ugh"
It's a 1:9 ratio for me and unfortunately most of the marketing I watched for High On Life was not the favorable kind.
Is anyone else's Xbox giving them frequent notifications that games on their wish list are on sale, usually with increasing numbers that still don't match the number of items that are actually on sale on your wish list?
Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!
Is it just games on Xbox that go on sale? I e never seen a sale for any of the games through game pass on PC other than the like 10% discount for games already on game pass.

Games on the Windows Store (i.e. the Xbox App on Windows 10/11, as they're integrally link) go on sale. Literally more than a hundred went on sale over Black Friday (in fact, a number still are); but it's still a much smaller library than the Xbox store on consoles.
(Though considering the Xbox store on consoles covers three generations of hardware, including several hundred Xbox 360 games, and a metaphorical mountain of UWP/small development apps and games, it might literally be the biggest digital storefront that's not called Steam. I'm pretty sure it's bigger than the stores on Playstation, which largely skip the PS2 and PS3 generations, or Switch.)
It's pretty easy to miss. The Hitman Trilogy was discounted (beyond the usual Game Pass discount), though of more interest to me, the frankly overpriced DLC that let's you play the Hitman 2 expansion levels in H3 (a whole two levels that IOI was charging $35 dollars for) was discounted to ~$10. DLC sales are almost unheard of, in part because I don't think the DLC discount on Game Pass on console extends to Game Pass on PC. But they have gone on sale. However, for most people, I think the games they own on that store are a consequence of Xbox Play Anywhere, which is still in effect for Xbox First Party and charitable smaller third-party productions.

Witcher 3 with the Series X upgrade is 56 GB, just a heads up.
It looks and plays fantastic, plus is you're like me and have it on multiple platforms, cross save is available in the 4.0 patch, along with all the new equipment goodies.
Gonna start a Death March run and go full alchemy/potion/decoction whore, as it's a build I've never really done before.

Still playing Plague Tale. I think the fundamental problem at the core of this story is that they keep repeating one dynamic. It’s pretty compelling in the opening act; Amecia goes overboard in trying to protect Hugo, kills a bunch of people, this heightens Hugo’s emotions and accelerates the Macula’s takeover of his body, and Amecia has a moment of realization about the danger to Hugo. Unfortunately, this dynamic repeats itself multiple times in subsequent chapters. Those moments of learning are a rendered meaningless in retrospect by the game’s many repetitions of ifs opening chapter.

Pretty good, considering it's being implemented in a 7 year old game. Definitely some dips into the upper 20/low 30FPS out in the open countryside of White Orchard/Velen close to dawn/Dusk when godrays and draw distance get heavy, but combat and cutscenes arent affected too much.
The performance mode is silky smooth 60 frames and some of the 4K modded textures put most of the Skyrim Anniversary stuff to shame.

HMX has announced that they will postpone the Fuser server shutdown until 'early 2023'. No specific date, but it will probably coincide with all the other Rock Band server shutdowns which is ~Jan 24.
The game and all DLC will still be delisted on Dec 19. (They did make the Diamond Store content all free, so that's a thing.)

High on Life is pretty decent, the forced Morty stutter gets annoying and the hookshot mechanic feels janky most of the time but it does have some fun moments to it to pretend it's not as linear as you think. I was expecting it to be cheaper than it actually is. It's a good example of what a gamepass game should be compared to the glut of 2D stuff.
Speaking of 2D, Vampire Survivors DLC is as good as the original, but there is a set layout to the map that doesn't let you keep moving if you reach a dead end in the layout. So any real exploring should be done with higher level weapons on or the 3X revive tarot card.
