I'm not even gonna boot this game up, this is dire. Luckily, we just got a new person in our group into Remnant, that remains a super fun co-op shooter time.

I've enjoyed my time with it, I tried out Jacob this morning and I like his kit, Layla seems to be the on in need of a rework. Though with Jacob you definitely want to go for the murder bird right away because then you can range finish vampires and just aoe damage enemies while marking targets.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

As with Forspoken (that comparison only seems more fitting), there are obviously people who enjoy the game (and even good reviews of it, though they are outnumbered by average or worse reviews). It is definitely not unplayable, despite the hyperbole that gets thrown about (particularly here ). Awkwardly, my existing position regarding the game hasn't change, but I still have too many games to play as is.
Aw man I chose Layla to start with haha. Her kit sounded fun.
Maybe you can work her better than I did, its just when I played with like devinder or Jacob they have better more universal stuff versus Laylas ranged aoe shield, maybe an upgrade there makes it apply universally? Layla does have the most OP look though NGL.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Yeah I can tell you either Jacob or Devinder is great. Devinder has the added bonus of being able to ignore any platforming/exploration with his teleporter
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Devinder Crousley was the character I picked. He seemed to fit the atmosphere of the game the most. An actual cryptid hunter.
Humoursly he and jacob have a conversation about that.
jacob made the assumption since crousley claimed to hunt them he'd killed one before, obviously he hadn't, but it was amusing from an actual killer to one who just basically wanders around the woods and jumps at shadows. Up until fucking vampires show up of course.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

One game releases that isn't up to standard and suddenly Xbox is some pariah, some kind of leper to which to avoid their products lmao
Here is a good review that is showing the problems with it. The game is pretty broken. I think there is some kind of random bug in it that is causing the AI to crap out. https://youtu.be/cjRdCspzfvY
Even more than just that dude, there's a narrative around this release that this is somehow bad for the Xbox brand but to me, this looks worse for Arkane after the middling Deathloop. I've seen a few reviews attack the "this is what Xbox money buys them??" and while it's a shame the game is bad they're ignoring some other pretty good stuff being released just to bang the same old drum.
Xbox kinda has the Netflix approach to things right now where even just mediocre games are seemingly seen as a bonus to Game Pass. It's apparently not paying off great in the immediate as Xbox hardware numbers are slumping while PS5 soars. I think Sony just has better grasp of what both western fans want (spiderman, god of war, naughty dog stuff) and are pretty much the only option that isn't Nintendo for a lot of Japanese titles.
End of the day Microsoft is a big rich company and most of those suck, Sony is a lot smaller so I think it's easier to root for them, and I mean the nostalgia around the brand because of the insane library of the PS1/2 is super strong. Microsoft has Halo... And have fumbled that for a decade now.
To be more direct on Redfall, it feels exactly like Halo Infinite or any number of Microsoft first party stuff; it's a game that, in a few years when they finish it (if they finish it *cries in crackdown 3*) maybe, might be kinda good.
Like Grounded has pretty good word of mouth around here but the game preview was very rough. Same with Sea of Thieves. Those games launched in barebones territory and are now by all accounts pretty good.
Time will tell for Redfall but it's definitely been a weird sell for me from the start and I like Co-op, open world stuff
So with game pass pc you have to do a lot of linking to other game launchers for certain games like EA and Ubisoft. Recently whenever I launch the Xbox app it also auto starts the Ubisoft Connect launcher in the background in my task tray. Don't have any game pass Ubisoft games installed currently (I have played Far Cry 5 in the past), and I can't find any settings in either apps to stop this. Annoying because I don't like having a bunch of game launchers cluttering up my taskbar.

Yeah, but the Series S/X hasn't exactly had a stellar library to compare it to. Lots of multiplatform games, lots of smaller games, and their biggest game release was Halo Infinite, which is a mess both within the game and within the studio.
I think Forza Horizon 5 might have been the only other big game they've released in that time that was Xbox exclusive and well recieved.
Given that ecosystem, a stinker like Redfall is going to bigger red flag than if, say, Sony or Nintendo had plopped it out.

So one interesting point is that I believe Skillup actually was bucking the trend on Arkane before Redfall, particularly with regards to Deathloop. This video is well worth watching as a good comparison:
He is also the one who talked about and talked me into trying Prey Mooncrash, which as I've mentioned is one of the best examples of the genre I've found and an utterly fantastic experience. So I have a good amount of respect for his opinions and while I disagree with him on Deathloop overall, he makes a tremendous number of valid points in his video about it that are hard for me to argue with even if I loved the game.
Like Grounded has pretty good word of mouth around here but the game preview was very rough. Same with Sea of Thieves. Those games launched in barebones territory and are now by all accounts pretty good.
I would like to point out Grounded was released in early access at half the price and now is a 100% functional game that costs $40. It's hardly fair to compare it to Redfall that's a full release title and priced at $70 dollars. Like grounded has bugs and problems, but it was released in a 1.0 stable state full of content and is a legitimately enjoyable game by yourself or playing with other people. I would recommend Grounded to anyone who loves bugs and has an interest in exploration style games. I wouldn't recommend Redfall to anyone other than people who could play it for "free" on gamepass.
I guess SkillUp is a respected reviewer with plenty of clout to his name, but honestly the doomsaying is just hilariously melodramatic.

This is what came out after a substantial delay and again, the whole "Game is kinda crap, but play it for free on gamepass" is not the sterling endorsement of subscription based gaming that Microsoft wants.
I guess SkillUp is a respected reviewer with plenty of clout to his name, but honestly the doomsaying is just hilariously melodramatic.

It's not just one game. It's a pattern of delayed and/or disappointing releases. Crackdown 3 (delayed and disappointing), Halo Infinite (delayed, initially promising, then deeply disappointing), Redfall (delayed and then disappointing), etc. Looking ahead towards the delayed Starfield and wondering if it might be disappointing isn't "doomsaying", it is pattern recognition. I don't think Xbox is doomed because Microsoft as a company is loaded with money. I just want all these studios they bought to put out good, fun games, instead of strange, bad ones. Does anyone else feel differently about that?
I mean grounded was a game that came out and is my favorite obsidian game, and HI Fi rush was just a fun time.
We're coming out of a period of time where there was major turmoil and still to an extent is with regards to work from home policies etc. Like most PC releases this year have been problematic across the board.

Like I've mentioned before, my disappointment with Redfall is partly because I didn't like the direction Arkane took it but also because one of the reasons I decided to get a Series X was to play games from studios like Arkane after Microsoft bought them under Bethsofts umbrella. If this is what Microsoft and Bethesda are going to be putting out, then that's hugely disappointing and it's not like first time I've felt this way about Microsofts management of studios they've bought, with Rare being another example. Minding, Obsidian are being awesome because Pentiment was fantastic and Grounded was also great, but they're not inherently big triple AAA experiences, even if I personally love both games. They're things I could easily play on my middling laptop - which in fact I do in Grounded's case so I can coop with my woife on the Series X - and not something that I feel excited for why I bought an expensive current gen console for.
Even more than just that dude, there's a narrative around this release that this is somehow bad for the Xbox brand but to me, this looks worse for Arkane after the middling Deathloop.
DEATHLOOP is not what I would call middling; if REDFALL released at its level of quality, all we'd be hearing about the usual "Why is ARKANE still making games that sale. . ." instead of the gloom and doom surrounding this game, which admittedly is their poorest product.

This narrative around REDFALL being a "Microsoft game. . ." is absurd. This game came along with the purchase, full stop. Sure you can make an argument that MS could have scrapped the game or, if not to just gut the team, delay and try to fix what I'm sure was internal feedback that is similar to the public feedback we are seeing. Like how much can you really do for a game this far out in development once the ink is dry on the contract. If the Activision/Blizzard deal had gone through miraculously last year and D4 releases to - almost surely - excellent reviews, would this be evidence of MS now having "turned things around?" Of course not. Same with STARFIELD and it goes in the opposite direction.
The games MS has personally initiated development on and the continued lack of top quality titles is all on them and there's enough of them that we don't have to throw other peoples misfires on the heap.

Xbox elite expert level troubleshooting tip: before spending an hour troubleshooting your network to diagnose the packet loss problem on your console, maybe check the Xbox support accounts to see if they’re reporting some kind of issue on their end.
I assume that you can't pause Redfall? That's going to cause issues for me when my kids are awake...
You can't, but there are safe houses you can fast travel to at zero cost or cooldown, believe me when I've uhh been playing during work I've had some issues...

New Vegas? Pillars of Eternity? KOTOR 2? Pentiment? Tyranny? Hell, even Alpha Protocol?
It's not quite my favourite ever Obsidian game, but it's very very close as I absolutely adore the movie Honey, I Shrunk the Kids so it itches that right blend of nostalgia from my childhood and my love of entomology. Plus it's been one of the most fun coop experiences I've ever had with my wife, so that's a huge bonus on top too. I loved the writing in KotoR2, but the game was buggy as hell and it was sadly completely unfinished. Alpha Protocol is a game I love but I do so in spite of the incredibly shitty combat (until you get OP pistol abilities anyway) and again, litany of various bugs that mar the experience. New Vegas was an improvement on Fallout 3 but still not what I was hoping for from Fallout, but at least I enjoyed it.
Actually, I think I might agree that Grounded has been my favourite game Obsidian has released and it got a new content update with a new super Brood Mother boss just today!
I think for me it was a minimal amount of ahem bugs, a fun engaging story, finally a game where you're expected to survive and build where I felt the need to do both. It just hit all fronts and really made happy to engage with it.

If Microsoft didn't want the responsibility of ensuring the games made by thir acquisitions reach an acceptable level of quality then they probably shouldn't have bought them. They're not blameless in this: it's the opposite, the buck stops with them. It's not like they haven't done this before, letting Psychonauts 2 cook a lot longer allowing them to put in all of the content they had previously planned on cutting out for budget reasons.
Additionally if Microsoft wants to use these acquisitions to attract people to their platforms, it incumbent upon them to ensure the products released by those companies aren't on fire.
Microsoft isn't doomed, but they've needed to get their shit together for awhile and instead they've gotten worse, IMO.

Actually Grounded's update today added a new boss the Super Brood Mother and also nerfed Wasps in a bunch of ways, particularly with the fact it felt like being in a bug Battle of Britain whenever they did a base raid. The game being updated so well and with great new stuff, like the new base building coziness mechanics, makes me so happy.
Also honky if you're looking for a new redfall character I'd recommend Jacob as an alternative to Davinder. He doesn't have the suave british sophistication, but he does have an ultimate that literally lets you delete enemies and a cool raven.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
How does "A Short Hike" end? It seemed like a lovely game.
You reach the top of the mountain, and get enough cell reception to get the phonecall you were waiting on. It's your mom calling to say she made it out of surgery okay. You two have a heart to heart, and then the mountain does a thing it does where its hot springs have some thermal activity that creates a huge updraft that you use to rise high up and then glide back down the mountain. You go back and talk to your aunt to tell her about your day and end the game.
