You know, they should totally do a Steam Workshop for Deck startup videos.

Heck, stick ‘em on the points store and then add in a UI element to let you pick it.

It would fill with porn faster than you can shake your Deck at, but it would be great.

Someone with artistic talent needs to edit this exact into into saying steam deck and it's logo.

I wish I had this talent because I wanted one that was like the sonic into that had him dash back and forth to make the word Sega, but instead it was the deck logo rolling back and forth and it would write and say " steam deck" in the same song as the word Sega was.

The best thing would be letting you download a dozen of these video files and sticking them in a folder to relate it randomly choose one

We need a Big headed series of videos involving Gordon Freeman, portal characters, team fortress 2 characters

    A stealth montage

A montage of 2D and 3-D Minecraft worldbuilding games building the steam deck logo

3 wizards try casting a summoning spell and roll a 20 sided dice, one rolls a 10 and gets a Game Boy advance, run rolls 1 and gets an N Gage, 1 rolls a 20 and gets a deck, cue logo

Yes there definitely needs to be a workshop on this and someone needs to set up a YouTube channel for these things.. Someone can make a name for themselves with animation if they strike now

You could probably do this easily with a simlink that randomly updates with a cronjob.

Looks like the official Steam Deck dock is available for order now (https://store.steampowered.com/steamdeckdock)

I wonder if the official dock is modifying the signal in any way or if they're updating the OS to better support external devices. I just got a JSAUX dock this week and when i connect it to my TV the whole display is shifted to the left, which I can't seem to correct on the TV itself :?

I saw the $89.00 price for the Deck Dock. Price seemed a bit high. I've been using a USB-C hub I got for about $30, which is good but not great.

But hey, life has taught be that if I'm docking my deck into something, sometimes it's worth paying a premium, so I ordered it. I'll report back on how it feels once I get a chance to slip my deck into that dock a few times.

I don't think there's supposed to be anything special about the official dock aside from the inflated price. The issue you're running into is some kind of defect or weird setting in either the TV, the Deck software, or the dock being sub-par somehow. I haven't had that issue on the two random USB-C hubs that I have.

On the dock page they have a picture of a bunch of accessories you can presumably use with docked Deck.... some of them pretty unexpected.

I'm also on my first playthrough of Mass Effect 3. There's been a few places where I've died over and over.
Escaping Grissom Academy in particular, was brutal. We had hostiles dropping in all around, and I kept dying trying to get to the shuttles.

Still, the game is pretty awesome so far.

I think I remember having a few issues there too on my first playthrough. The number and difficulty of enemies seemed to really ramp up there or maybe I got to it earlier in the game than I was supposed to.

As established in my last ME3 post, I'm not exactly what you'd call a pro-gamer. That said, with experience with the game systems, normal difficulty has been a bit of a joke. Every possible improvement into harder hitting powers and faster recharge makes guns a bit of an afterthought most of the time. I had the odd death or two early in the game, but prior to my repeated slaughter on the ledge, 95% of the times I died were planet scanning in the Normandy and getting dogpiled by Reapers.

One of the things I've really noticed this playthrough was all the conversations by NPCs that each tell a small story in several parts that Shepard overhears when walking by. One doesn't interact with the characters at all, but stopping to listen reveals stories bit by bit each time a location is reentered. It's not a big part of the game by any means, but it's such wonderful world building to hear about the lives of people affected by, but not involved in the main plot. It's a really nice touch that makes the world feel more real and lived in that most games.

Yeah, stopping to listen to npcs talk is actually huge, because you get some missions from them this way.

I assume the big part of the dock price is due to it coming with another one of the power adapters. The beefy ones *aren't* cheap.

Still way cheaper than the USB laptop dock I bought back in June.

I mean, the Deck is just a mini computer. If you can hook a guitar up to a PC, you can hook it up to a Deck, maybe via some sort of USB/digital mixer?

Anyway, one issue with the aftermarket docks that my friend is running into is the aspect ratio stuff. He's had to run some hacks to make it look normal in docked mode. Maybe the official Deck Dock fixes that natively?

Well, they dropped a bunch of updates for docked mode in the latest update for *all* docks. Might be worth checking back into?
    Docked mode overhaul
We've been focused on a bunch of UI, software, and OS updates to improve the docked experience - not only for the official Docking Station, but for all connected docks, hubs, and peripherals. The team has added scaling, resolution, and refresh rate settings for external displays, as well as broad compatibility for external displays, peripherals, and audio-out scenarios.

Yeah the SteamOS update fixed my issue with the image aligning to my TV screen, as long as I keep auto-resolution and auto-scale on. As soon as I try to set a custom resolution I'm off the edge of the screen again, oh well.

Speaking of the Steam Deck, is the fan noise still an issue/a thing? I remember that being a complaint a couple threads back. The announcement has definitely poked at some impulse buy strings...

Between newer docks having the lower pitched fan and the quieter fan curve, it's not going to come up much outside of pushing current AAA games full blast to melt your battery. But even the likes of FF7R isn't audible often at native 720p/30hz.

I really don't think any of the docks are doing anything other than negotiating between the display and Deck what resolutions are possible to pick from. Valve isn't promising anything special from their official dock, they just threw in a charger and displayport and charged a lot.

Also it seems the Deck orders have finally hit the point of no longer being a pre-order. If you order a deck now (and assuming no spikes in orders, in the future) it ships in weeks. The list has finally been completed.

Yup, the site now says "Buy now! Estimated delivery 1-2 weeks" for all three versions, at least here in UK land.

The Steam Deck is now easier to get hold of than the PS5 or Series X.
