You would think Costner, an old hand at not just acting but production, would fully understand what he was asking. And he most likely did, which begs why in the flying fuck did he think anyone would play that hard a ball with him? 2023 Kevin Costner doesn't have that pull. Fuck, 1992 Kevin Costner wouldn't have that pull maybe even.

He just won a Golden Globe and the show's a huge hit, and also actors are pretty dumb.

I mean we've got a long history of white dudes thinking they were bigger than the show they were on. Costner went the full Caruso. I eagerly await him to be in a shitty movie with Nicolas Cage that has people saying Fuck with the bull and get the horns wrong for years!

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

The only reasonable explanation that makes Costner look good out of it is that he did it intentionally to get fired instead of having to quit.

I would 100% believe Costner loves his character on Yellowstone, he's also a lazy as fuck actor and just thought he had more leverage than he did.

There’s leverage and then there’s “condense a shoot over 5x to accommodate”

Edit: like, the only thing in Costner’s favor here is how ridiculous the terms he was asking for are. They are laugh at the face of it ricidukous. If he was trying, in earnest, to get that then, well

Costner's an experienced actor in films, but he's never had a main role in an ongoing series before, I'd bet he was a little surprised how much more work it was.

And he's finally getting another chance in the director's chair with a movie he's been shooting last year and this year, he might be feeling a bit of, "I did my time in TV, I'm out of movie jail, why am I still here"

The fact he has ever won any awards for acting baffles me

I just don’t think Kevin Costner is ever acting. He’s just being himself and it works in certain roles but then he does something like Robin Hood and he’s still just Kevin Costner playing Kevin Costner.

I’ve seen range from Nick Cage. Not lately but if you go back and watch Leaving Las Vegas or Raising Arizona you can tell he CAN act when he wants to

I'm far from a big Costner fan, but "Just being yourself" on a film set with cameras rolling is actually staggeringly difficult. "Being yourself" in a way that gets butts in seats for several decades is even harder.

He sucks for a variety of reasons, but he can work on screen and that's not nothing.

Every time I catch a snippet of "The Untouchables" I end up rolling my eyes. Connery, DeNiro, and Garcia are great, but Costner is such a piece of soggy wood that whole movie. I don't believe that he's afraid for his family's safety, I don't believe he's mad at the guy who tries to bribe him, I don't believe any of his alleged emotions. When he sees Connery shot to death on the floor he lets out this "OH GAHD, NO" that completely ruins any seriousness of the scene.

I’m not meaning to simplify what he does, I sure as fuck couldn’t do it. He’s clearly very good on screen as that one particular character. I’m just trying to see if there’s a movie anyone has seen with him where he’s playing a character that isn’t that character.

I'd love to say that most of what Cage has is an "Intensity" dial, but then I think of e.g. Family Man and yeah, okay, granted.

I feel like there are three or four Bass Reeves things kicking around various places. I think Morgan Freeman's producing one?

People have been trying for decades to make something about him, I wonder what keeps holding it up.

I guess my knee jerk assumption is “typical Western fans aren’t interested in a western about a black man with a heavy focus on how terrible and racist that period in American history was”

But then, like, Tarantino managed a hit out of a not dissimilar premise, so who the hell knows?

I imagine its just hard to do what would primarily be a movie about a black man, in a genre that typically stars white men, or has white men adjacent like Django.

There's certainly a place for... let's call it "consistency", though it's mostly for supporting actors. My go-to example is Michael Ironside (IS Michael Ironside IN [long list of IMDB credits]).
When it comes to male leads, the first that comes to mind (besides Costner) would probably be George Clooney.

Kevin Costner and Harrison Ford, to me, have exactly the same range and play exactly the same roles, except Harrison Ford also has charisma and was in much better movies.

This thing with Kevin Costner acting very entitled and ruining Yellowstone is very funny, although I feel badly for the crew, I imagine a lot of them probably didn't sign up to make conservative soap opera propaganda.
