    Did Jerry's mom die?

I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Looked up the game and apparently you can unlock sleeves for your balls, including Rare and Uncommon types. I wasn't aware ball sleeves were a thing in golf, but there you go.

Has been for quite some time. Don't think he was ever good enough to challenge the dedicated pros, though.

Maybe I'm an idiot, but I have been staring at this paragraph, and find it completely inscrutable.

"Let us begin by saying that my mom is fine. I don't even think she can die - once, when we went to the lake, I noted fine, gold traceries of some novel mode upon her shoulder. Feverish and consumed with an unnatural curiosity inseparable from some disease of the mind, I managed to gain entrance to a hidden segment of the library which seemed itself to be, if not made of books itself, then the sort of place which might be described in one - an author's fancy somehow made real. Anyway, it was like a spell something. My mom's doing good."

I'm just lost in that middle part. Gold traceries? A library? Is this some reference I'm not getting, I literally cannot make hide nor tail of that middle section.

Should we expect him in the next baseball game too then?

I think it's more a commentary of his unpleasant relationship with his parents that he has hallucinations that normally require pharmaceutical stimulus in place of childhood memories.

Not a reference to anything specific, just his way of joking that his mom's health seems supernaturally good.

Or thinks he's communicating in human, but is still speaking Jerry.

This felt like it needed addressing. "Sleeve" is just "carton." A sleeve of golf balls = a pack of golf balls. They're not little golf ball sweaters.

What is this I don't even.

For a brief moment there was some magic in the universe. The moment has passed. Thanks for that.
