Snyder said that Warner Bros. was agreeable to the 1980s script that had been turned in. In the script, the director had also added a title montage sequence to introduce the events of alternate history United States in that time period to the audience.

I stopped believing anything that came out of AICN's shit hole when their article for the Onimusha movie insisted the main character is named Onimusha.
AICN told me once that Patrick Wilson was Nite Owl, Jude Law was Ozymandias, and Keanu Reeves was rumored to be Doc Manhattan
I like the first two, the third not so much
I think Keanu might be uniquely qualified to portray someone who has completely lost touch with his humanity and is amazed by everything that happens around him because he is not really connected with 'now' in the traditional sense.
The director was trying to get Tom Cruise to be Ozymandias. Tom Cruise was apparently really really close to signing on, but for some reason, it didn't happen.
Sort of a bummer. I think Tom Cruise would have been a good Ozymandias.

No, Tom Cruise wanted to do it but Zack Snyder (the director) basically turned him down.
I remember the first time I read Watchmen. I was like 17 and found the trade in my dad's old box of comics. It was Christmas vacation so no school. I sat down and read it cover to cover in like two days. It was magical. I probably reread it once a year now.
I'm sure the movie will be a a complete fucking travesty on all accounts.

No it's not.
Yeah, but:

That seems to indicate (along with other problems) that it's set in the present, like Hayter's script.
The movie is just now going into production. This review is from over a year ago.
Touche.
Also, any word on confirmed casting?
Not a one. Gerard Butler may or may not be in it is about as much as anyone actually knows.

Is it a comic?
No thanks.

I really want to see how they advertise the movie, probably make it all "Look, Spider-man and superheroes!! Action! And Pirates!!"
I'd watch it.
Robin Williams as the Comedian.
Something we can put on t-shirts.
and a vietnamese girl could go 'who's there'
and then he rapes her
wall to wall action
interspersed with a fight against doctor manhattan's bodyguards
The comic, however, was and is excellent
"Knock, Knock"
hmmm.
I could see it working.

I remember that from the old superman script by Kevin Smith.
Mark Waid actually did put a Giant Robot Spider in Superman: Birthright, and it didn't feel out of place at all.
And Giant Robot Spiders would've only made Returns better.
