I ended up with no shinies. Thankfully Tyranitar's shiny isn't very impressive. My shiny luck on GO left me (although my shiny luck in Scarlet is BONKERS, so it makes up for it).
Yeah, part of the other reason I didn't try too hard this time (also I still had a couple from last time they did this CD). Though at least it's a somewhat different color, unlike, say, Garchomp :P (it's an ugly color, but it's different :P)

It's so sad because Gible and Gabite have pretty good shinies! And then Garchomp is just a big stinking nothing. I have the same complaint about Shellder (great shiny!) to Cloyster (mediocre shiny!). Why no golden Cloyster?

Huh, I'm really surprised that there's nothing really happening for Crackling Voltage. Was expecting at least a Collection task. They usually have either one of those or some sort of research. This has neither. Very odd.
Incidentally, bleh, I need to scramble this weekend to get my alt their Shadow Mewtwo before it's too late (I honestly could get them two but there's just no way I'm beating that many leaders + Giovanni twice... also it's my alt, so meh). I had to look up which Giovanni quest I even had - it was whatever one has EGG in the name a lot. Currently just need to beat Leaders (one more then one of each for the next step). I've been doing ok so far against them but I'm a little worried about Giovanni himself. My alt is only lvl 33 and obviously has a very limited roster to work with. But I've been trying to trade them legendaries and stuff recently to make up for it (like, the ones with shitty IVs, and I don't care if they roll bad on my alt in the trade, it's not a huge stat difference). She already has a 98% Origin Form Giratina from forever ago (was mad for a long time I caught that on my alt and not my main) so I'm hoping that's enough to handle Mewtwo. I gave her a Terrakion too (which I proceeded to dump a bunch of rare candies into) so hopefully that will handle Persian. Second pokemon could be an issue but my alt has a random assortment of legendaries from when I used to double-raid (back before remote raids even existed) including a bunch of Mewtwos and dragons. Hoping I have something sufficient. Also hoping the fact that Sierra was a joke when I beat her last night is a good sign

Hopefully she doesn't take offense if there's not much interest here - I'm guessing there's not as much overlap between people who regularly post to a video game nerd forum and people who are into the NBA.
Even though it's not for me I am intrigued that it's apparently tied into real-world basketball courts. That sounds like a fun way to get like-minded people together.

Yeah, I don't have much interest in sports balls so I've largely ignored it, other than I saw trainertips posted a video on it so I watched a couple minutes just to see what it looked like. Looks neat if you like Basketball, but I don't really care so
Yeah, I figured as much. She's used to be big into the NBA until they moved the Sonics out of Seattle. That was a killing blow and she's never looked back.
But yeah, definitely not a lot of interest in bringing over Pokemon Go players, rather trying to create a new user base.

Wow, that was surprisingly easy. I was able to handle two of the leaders via balloons before I even left (lucky they were both different) and it took a little while to find Cliff but eventually got him. Then there was a Giovanni pretty nearby who wasn't a decoy. Beat him first try, didn't even need a third pokemon.. Lol... Terrakion absolutely murderered Persian and Rhyperior and then Origin Giratina took out Mewtwo easily. I was expecting all kinds of trouble but wow that was stupidly easy. Didn't get the best Mewtwo (1*) but whatever, don't care. It's my alt. Also managed to knock out a ton of other special research tasks while I was out, including Spiritomb (lol, I was stuck on the "catch 108 pokemon" step since whatever year that came out). Actually got a decent IV one, too bad Spiritomb isn't op in PoGo like the mainline games.
Overall, woo, glad to have that taken care of. And glad to make some progress towards Cosmog (like, actually getting Cosmog) so I can eventually trade Solgaleo to my main (I hope there isn't a trade restriction)
I like that this was a chill event. I need "off" weeks, I don't really want to feel like I need to go a-pokemoning every weekend or risk FOMO or falling behind on new pokes and collectors challenges and what-not
Figures Mega Latias and Latios would come back now that I've *finally* got both to rank 3 (well, Latios is literally one day away)
That said, I've always been a little salty at being unable to get a shiny Rayquaza (I tried so hard but back then it was all local raids so I was hamstrung by how many I could actually do) so happy it's back. Wonder if that move is any good.
The event also features the Hoenn starters, and a clutch of mostly common Hoenn Pokes. Maybe that's to clear the decks so the Tour can focus on the rest? I know with 10 legendaries/mythicals in that gen it would be tough to cram them all into an event.

The move is really bad for pve (raids). It might be good for pvp, we don't know the energy cost yet. Ray is a glass cannon though, so using it in masters (where it's weak to many popular mon) will be risky.

Guess this means we won't get Mega Rayquaza for quite a while.
I wondered if it might be a surprise during Hoenn Tour, but I'm leaning towards yeah, probably not. It kind of takes away from the Primal Kyogre and Groudon and would be a little "busy" if you had so many different "Mega" raids going on at once. They seem somewhat hesitant to release megas of legendaries, with the Primal Reversions only being technically the second ones (they're close enough to Megas that I think they count).
I could maybe see them doing something for Go Fest with this being a "Hoenn year" but *shrug*
Hey, don't knock Magnemite - considering Magnezone's ridiculous resistances and strong electric DPS, it's worth farming Cliff too.
Yeah, but I think he's more useful for PvP? I dunno. Either way, Shadow Metagross sounds hype Esp. if I elite TM him (or I guess just remove frustration and not evolve hoping for another Meteor Mash event Still calling Beldum as next Community Day Classic)
Edit 2: Apparently they have finally added a Steel type Rocket grunt. I'll be honest, didn't even realize that wasn't in the game Does make me curious if they ever put Aron on one of the leaders if its shiny would have any visual differences
Mega Gardevoir hype! Ironically just in time for the shiny that I traded from my alt to main to be lucky with good IVs (like 15/13/15)
(also thank god finally a second fairy mega)
Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/10qcw7o/team_go_rocket_shadow_uptake_by_paranoias_gamers/
Looking at the new Rocket leader lineups. These seem pretty easy to counter. Cliff is maybe the trickiest since you might have to swap teams depending on the second slot. I was looking at what PokemonGoHub (because Dextero wasn't updated yet) recommended and I swear, did they forget Fairy exists? I mean, I know PoGo doesn't have the *best* fairy types but fairy literally counters four of Sierra's pokemon... (at least on pure type matchups.. can't speak for like specific moves they might have vs bulkiness of fairy types). Dark/Fairy/Fighting seems the way to go to me. Arlo is pretty straight forward psychic/fighting/fire IMO. Giovanni is literally "Do you have fighting types? Cool, you win. Bring an ice type for Nidoking just in case"

I fought that one this morning and was really surprised I had never seen it before. Makes sense that it's new.
Really happy that we're getting Mega Gardevoir soon, I have my chosen Gardevoir for that ready to go.

Oh I forgot, I noticed they posted this last night after I got home:
Shiny Frillish is fun. I'm sad the Flebebes are still so limited. Would have liked a blue or red one. But at least a second chance at an orange one after I accidentally transferred my only one earlier T_T Also anything that puts Audino in the wild and research tasks is hype to me.
(rando side note, really wish the Frillish glasses were a single color and not giant ugly circular shaped ones... I would kill for some pink glasses... or really just, more glasses options that are not sunglasses....)
Dang I only got 4 Noibats yesterday. The heat and gnats of the afternoon were too much though. That's my issue with the shorter Community days, it's no that I'm gonna be out and about for the whole 6hrs, it's that now I don't have an option of going out during morning or afternoon. Summer in Brazil is not the best season to be walking around at 2 pm.

Four shinies or just four period? And yeah, that sucks It's not so bad *now* but here a few months ago we kind of had the opposite problem where half of the community day was basically in the dark because it gets dark so much earlier in winter (aside from it also being freakin' freezing cold out).
I ended up doing pretty good. I think I counted 19 shinies. Wasn't trying super hard because I already had a shiny from last October + a rando perfect as well, so it's like, this is just extra shinies and a move that isn't that good on a pokemon that isn't good at all in this game :P Did get a bunch of stardust, which I promptly spent almost immediately. Haha. Finally took advantage of the half cost double special trades thing to send my alt a Yveltal tho, which ended up becoming lucky (yay) and in return I was able to send over the rando shiny baltoy I found on that account when I was working on getting Shadow Mewtwo (since my main "didn't have it yet" it would have been 40k stardust, so 20k for new pokes both ways is much better).
Also finished up Shadow Registeel. Rolled pretty ok IVs actually (2*) but I mean, not like it's super useful for anything. Also hit level 47 finally so wooo! Time to grind all the buddy hearts :P (honestly shouldn't be too bad, just take awhile)
I think I got shinies at a better rate than any other community day I've done. Wound up having to flush ten or so, and that was just from playing an hour and a half.
Another community day classic in a couple months. Still calling Beldum. I feel like regardless the proximity to Hoenn Tour means it should be a Gen 3 mon, which limits options if I'm right.
Edit: looking at the Hoenn options, honorable mention to Ralts. Shitty CD move but good pokemon otherwise and good shiny. Bagon is also an option. I feel like the other Hoenn options are unlikely - most aren't exciting enough IMO or are a bit too recent (like Roselia)
Beldum, Ralts, or Bagon would all be nice. I have a maxed Metagross on my account but I have a perfect I'd like to get more XL candy for to also max eventually. Ralts seems potentially likely since they're currently introducing the megas in that family line, and same for Bagon since it's mega is new too. Bagon would be my preference between those three though, I have a perfect Salamence at level 45 but don't have enough XL candy to max it out.
Beldum is the oldest, and definitely gets my vote. But I have a one-off-perfect Salamence, and I rolled two perfect Ralts (one boy, one girl) trading with my wife (Gallade is perfect and Lucky, too)
But also shiny Ralts would be great too, so either way
Daily incense was very kind to me today. Ran into Galarian Moltres and tried the strategy where you throw 15 balls away before trying to capture, and I got a critical capture on it. Also got a shiny Skitty, which is a nice surprise.
Also Groudon and Kyogre now apparently have the Primal Reversion added in, 400 energy.
Also also one of the Valentine's event researchs is make 5 Great Curveball Throws In a Row
...
For a Spinda!
So that's gonna be sitting in my Field Research tab forever. Or at least until the next community day (can usually get consistent enough hits on those days, most days I'm just not that good, nor trying that hard)

I apologize if you already know, but there's regular research that awards a Spinda for five great curveballs in a row. Has been for years. It's fairly rare to find but it's something you can bump into eventually.

I suck at those tasks, so if I have to do them for a quest chain, I use the “airplane mode” trick to force it through.
(If you don’t know it, it involves making a successful throw, then next time you encounter a Pokémon you wait until you’re about to throw, and switch your internet connection off. Then you throw - if you make the hit, turn the connection back on. If you don’t, close the game, reconnect and restart. It’ll remember the game state from *before* you entered the encounter, including how many successful throws you had towards the task. Works on iPhone, not sure about other devices.)

Booooooooo, they have officially broken the "mega" search string for Pokemon mega1, mega2, and mega3 were so damn useful. I hope they fix it.... last night I had to try and remember every pokemon that I had mega 1/2 to level them.. it was painful T_T
Players with a history of submitting low quality AR scans will now stop getting the task for it entirely.
Meaning I'm about to start submitting a lot of scans of my steering wheel until I'm one of them.
That's nice. Though I still kinda want to hold onto my AR scan task to make AR scan tasks go away cuz it amuses me there was a "Selfie World" stop and now that stop is gone T_T
Side note, somehow I got like 9 shiny luvdiscs on Saturday in like the first hour and a half. I just quit because it was getting ridiculous :P It's friggin luvdisc :P
Ugh, I did a quick walk around my (weirdly rich in Pokestops) neighborhood, didn't get any shiny Luvdisks, figured "eh, I don't want to put in all this effort and not get a shiny," and stopped.
And then every single person in my Facebook group bragged about how many dozens of shinies they got. Ah well.

Aww that sucks. It's just luvdisc though, so not like the most amazing shiny or anything. It was weird though, I swear my shinies would come in huge batches, like I'd get three in a row or something, almost like they were all clustered at nearby stops.
Also I'm pretty sure the task to "earn a candy walking with your buddy" was just broken because I did that several times and couldn't get them to complete (I coincidentally had an Altaria out so the candy distance was only 1k). Eventually just started throwing those tasks away.
