I probably shouldn't tell you Shadow Mewtwo will only be in the new shadow raids, which can only be done... I don't have to finish that sentence, do I?
At least we're getting Master Balls?

Oh I totally know. Part of the reason I can't get excited for it, on top of all the other shit that's been going on with this game. I saw there's some weird rage mechanic or something that requires annoying grinding to get around so I'm sure the raids will be a pain too.
I wish I could ever be excited about the Master Ball but the fact that they always only give you one makes it one of those items you never want to use "because I need to save it for a good opportunity." This is honestly true of all Pokemon games though. Here it has the added benefit of "I used it on a Galarian Moltres but now I can't catch this Galarian Zapdos and/or I got a way better CP/IV one to spawn after I wasted it and I have no Master Balls anymore"). It's basically a ball for Shundos that you're down to one ball left on. (also can it even be used in raids? I didn't read that closely but usually you are limited to Premier Balls... if you can only use it on wild pokemon, yeah, fuck that)

I think 99% of folks will save them for those goddamn Galarian birds.

Yeah but which one? :P Also god, I just remembered you can miss or have pokemon deflect balls in this.... if Master Ball isn't just a button you press that gives you the pokemon.. eww...
Master Ball will just be a button you press, they've said that in blog posts. It'll basically trigger a cut scene, no actual throw/hit required.
They've also said this won't be actually only one to ever use, ever.
Also I'm predicting that Shadow Raids will be used to do away with or severely reduce the frequency of Rocket Balloons, because with Shadow Raids you have to actually get up and GO! *barf*
On paper, I don't hate the idea of making raids more interesting, but I don't trust Niantic or PoGo anymore.
They're all silly geese. This is how they want the game to work. If it wasn't, they'd change it.

Ok good. I didn't actually read the blog post but if they hadn't done it that way it would be mega yuck. Then only normal Master Ball apathy applies for me (seriously, I'd be much more excited for Dusk Balls or Quick Balls or something that's actually useful more than once). And yeah, they'll give more out, after what.. a year? Two years? Still haven't seen a second Cosmog :P
And yes, after like a year of gaining it back by being overall pretty cool:
I don't trust Niantic or PoGo anymore
Shoulda' known it wouldn't last :P I honestly didn't even intend to ever come back at all but the desire to transfer shit to Home, and then seeing how Remote Raids existed and worked actually got me to change my mind.
Also when you get a shadow shard or whatever the game will eventually hang.
PoGo / Niantic knows, they're aware and they intentionally shipped this bug into production because nobody gives a shit about quality work, only getting paid
Oh, and three-star shadow raids absolutely can't be done solo. I dropped three purified gems on a Croconaw (a Croconaw!) and they did only slightly more than jack shit. So I lost and I managed to burn three purified gems. Which can only be acquired by grinding Rocket grunts.
Seriously, fuck this shit.
(Hilariously, one-star shadow raids are exactly as easy as one-star regular raids, as the boss stats stay exactly the same as regular ones until they get enraged, and they don't get enraged for the first 30 seconds or so, at which time pretty much everyone but the newest of newbs will have already beaten it)

Oh yeah I've been reading about the raging. Can you imagine you do a Shadow Mewtwo, only to find out you can't win after your group wastes all of their gems? Sounds like fun times! (saw this shit coming as soon as I saw there was enrage mechanics)
Needless to say my decision to completely ignore Shadow Raids is turning out to be the correct one. I've barely been launching the game and I feel happy about this decision.
The boss initially has +20% attack and takes +20% damage like normal shadows. This means that if it were an ordinary raid, it would be similar difficulty to a regular mewtwo raid, because it would go down quicker, but it would also deal more damage.
However....
The boss becomes "enraged" for almost 50% of the raid. This makes it hit much harder, and gives an enormous defensive buff, making this section of the raid about 3x harder than the first part.
The enrage effect starts 60% of boss HP remaining and disappears naturally at 15% boss HP. It can be subdued by feeding enough purify gems which puts it back to normal.
Enrage means it gains 81% attack and gains 200% defense. Yes, that is correct!
T3 bosses can enrage where t1 cannot. We assume t5 will enrage in the same way as t3 but we do not know. Enrage will outline the raid boss in light purple and there is a log message to confirm T3s take 8 purified gems to subdue.
"Subdue" means the enraged state has ended. The purple outline will go away and there will be a log message. This requires 2 players to achieve.
The gems do nothing alone, they have no effect other than removing enrage once you feed enough. Therefore - if soloing a t3, don't use gems. They won't do anything.
Gems are used up within the raid attempt. If you use them, and fail the raid, you would need fresh gems for the next try.
Up to 5 purified gems can be fed to the boss per player. Once fed, there will be a sparkle animation on the raid boss. There is a 5 second cooldown in between gem feeding. It appears using a move may interrupt feeding so careful timing may help or it may be a glitched feature
Here's the tl;dr
- t1 Shadow raids don't enrage. t5 isn't active yet (we'll see tomorrow night probably)
- t3 Shadow raids Enrage at ~60% HP, and stay enraged until 15% HP, or until Eight Purified Gems are used.
- Enraged t3 pokes gain 81% more Attack and two hundred percent (200%) more Defense
- PGems in t3 raids are all or nothing. If you use 8, it's subdued and its attack and defense go back to how it was before 60% HP. If you use less than 8 gems, you wasted those gems.
- PGems can be used once every 5 seconds on an enraged Pokemon, up to 5 PGems per player. Soloing? Don't waste your PGems.
Sooo. Yeah. That doesn't line up with everything PoGo has said is true of Shadow Raids. Curious if Mewtwo will work differently enough to match what they said, or if they're just lying to their players.
It's like it didn't occur to them that people would want to solo a three-star.
I mean, yay for trying new things, but I can't imagine groups of friends would want to grind for shadow gems and then try their luck at a goddamn croconaw that could be low IV and grant pretty much the same rewards as regular three-stars.

They definitely don't want raid soloing. They want you going out and meeting other trainers and making friends and socializing through, with, and because of their app.
Between those probable raid details for Shadow Mewtwo over the weekend and the 6/6/6 IV floor that seals the deal on whether I will bother with the raid day.
1* shadow Mewtwo, came down to the last ball since a fucked up percentage of them simply bounced off him even though his attack animation ended. These shadow raids can kiss every last square inch of all my ass.

Mewtwo's always been a pain to catch since his invincibility doesn't seem to end until a bunch of frames after the actual attack animation ends. Was a rude surprise when he was only available in EX raids. (At least those damn things never came back.)

I didn't pay any attention to how the Mewtwo stuff went. Didn't log into the game at all the last few days. Been nice
But now I gotta farm coins again so I can buy more of their ripoff remote raid passes if I want to get the other two lake guardians Honestly if I don't get enough then whatever. I'm sure as hell not giving them actual money.
Even if it is an honest glitch it's fucking terrible timing.
Even if it's an honest glitch it's yet another one on top of all the others and it's like. Do you test? No? That's not an honest mistake, that's incompetence.
If they do test, their testing is incompetent and leadership is incompetent for keeping them around
And if it's all Niantic that's tying people's hands then it's incompetence to stay around for a title or a paycheck.
There's no excuse for contributing to enshittification of things

I mean, it's an annoying glitch and all, but - live service games that add a ton of new content on the regular tend to have regular glitches. I've played my fair share of them, from World of Warcraft to Marvel Snap, and all of them have had regular glitches. Most of them have had glitches so severe they've had to roll something back alter a feature to compensate. Yes, there's testing, but when you have to push out new updates so frequently it's impossible to keep things from breaking. Pokemon Go really doesn't seem any more glitchy than all the other live service games I've played.
The remote shiny thing (assuming it was an honest glitch) was annoying, and negatively impacted the userbase. But at least Niantic owned up to it and are compensating. Better to judge them on the ongoing game's design intent. That's where PoGo's starting to come up short, with the monetization creep and remote raid restrictions.

Yeah but there's random, hard to reproduce glitches, and then there's "Oh we forgot to turn the shinies on for the twentieth time." Literally one test server that you do a test deploy to and see if stuff works the way it's supposed to would solve 99% of these issues. (that is, one that is not just literally New Zealand)
World of WarCraft doesn't have to say "Sorry we forgot to add loot to this raid" every other week.
Edit: I should clarify I know this is not "forgot to turn them on" exactly, but it's a thing that has happened a stupidly large amount of times. Even this glitch probably could have been caught by launching the raids on a test server and seeing if the odds were set correctly with some debug software. (I'm guessing it's just a value on the server database)
This particular glitch has happened over and over and over, on raids, research days, community days, basically everything, sometimes multiple times in a row. Many times they've said they fixed it and testing showed they didn't actually bother.
Once is a mistake, twice a coincidence, three times a pattern... What about 20+ times? Is that not just SOP?
Isn't the Team Rocket takeover happening? Why can I still not teach my Mewtwo something other than Frustration? Why does this game make everything so fucking difficult?

When was the last Rocket Event? When I got this Mewtwo? It's a little ridiculous.
Probably yeah. But it has to be during the two-day(ish) event itself, you'll see the ability listed under the "Today" tab of your Research menu

TLDW - Niantic secretly nerfed the shiny chance of remote raids for the Lake Trio to 1/125 or so over the normal 1/20.
