I'll say the same thing when the Pats were in the same position; if they don't lose in the regular season, they won't win the SB.

In the Bills lone loss, they whipped the Dolphins and you’d expect them to have won by 10 given the way their respective offenses fared against each respective defense and with where the turnovers landed

    They didn’t win because “FOOTBALL!”

Anyway, this is an Eagles post

That movie is so dumb about the draft that it actively gave me brain damage, but I kind of want to watch it again anyway because I'll recognize so much more of the supporting cast than I did at the time

That's the one where he trades away all his picks in the 1st round only to get them all back+ because someone gets desperate later, right?

Like basically how your standard radio call-in guy thinks the draft works if only your team's GM wasn't such an idiot

If anyone wants to know how stupid the draft in Draft Day is but doesn’t want to watch the movie I will sum it up

All you need to know first

Bo Callahan is the supposed guaranteed #1 next big thing QB

Kevin Costner is the GM. His dad was some legendary Browns coach that just recently died

Browns have a solid QB who got hurt last year

They just hired a new head coach

Browns have the 7th pick and they’re interested in a edge from Ohio St named Vontae Mack

There is a hot shot RB (played by Arian Foster)

    Seattle has the #1 pick

    Ok so here we go

    Basically

Browns trade their next 3 1st round picks to Seattle so they can draft Bo Callahan. Many people hate this because they think the incumbent QB that got injured last year, Brian Drew, is a good QB.

They start looking into Bo Callahan. They find 3 things
    1. None of his teammates went to his birthday party
    2. He lied about a $100 bill that was put in playbooks
    3. He got scared after getting sacked by Vontae Mack

Draft comes. Browns still hold the #1 pick after turning down a solid deal from Buffalo for it.

Kevin Costner drafts…Vontae Mack?!? Whaaaat! Shocking!! Everyone is so mad.

The next few teams suddenly also pass on Bo Callahan because they think the Browns must know something.

Gets to pick 6 and Jacksonville with their rookie GM. Costner calls him and takes advantage of his youth? To get their 6th round pick for the Browns next 3 second round picks

Seattle sits at 7 thinking Jacksonville will draft Callahan. Costner calls them to say he has the pick and convinces them to trade back all of the 1st round picks they got from Cleveland plus some special team return man to move up 1 in the draft to get Bo Callahan.

Cleveland, back at pick 7 grabs the hotshot Running Back.

    Everyone celebrates

    So to sum it up

On the day of the draft

Cleveland trades 3 1st round picks to Seattle to move up from 7 to 1

They use that pick to draft a guy they know they could have got at 7

They then trade 3 2nd round picks for the 6th pick

They trade the 6th pick to Seattle for all of their original picks plus a special teamer.

    Seattle moves up 1 spot

    Cleveland drafts a RB

    Seattle moves up 1 spot

    Cleveland drafts a RB

So the net is 3 seconds for a RB and a special teamer? What a horrible result for something that could have backfired and tanked the franchise for the foreseeable future. Just use all 3 of those second rounders on serviceable running backs. They're gonna be run down in a couple years anyway.

Also they only started looking into the projected #1 pick after dumping 3 1sts to get him.

    What a stupid stupid thing.

Kickers, for some reason, I still feel are ok to make fun of. I shouldn't -- their job can be really hard, filled with pressure, and critical to the game. But man, fuck those guys! I'll laugh every time a kicker slips, shanks, or doinks.

A skycam cable snapped in the BUF@NYJ game, currently a 9 minute delay while they try to figure out what to do.

I'll tell you what to do, lower the camera, detach the rest of the cables, and get rid of the seasick cam! But while they're determining if I'm right, off to MIA@CHI

We're back, and Wilson immediately coughed up a fumble to the Buffs

And Allen through a great pick! This quarter has been ridiculous! Holy Fuck, NYJ receiver Wilson (not Zach) fakes a throw, fumbles, and loses his helmet as he tries (and succeeds) to recover. Criminy, I don't know what is going on with this game.

Look, no one would have guessed to start Justin Fields and if you decide to roll the dice on him next weekend he'll net you a solid six.
