a new mattress has shown up on my porch!!!! it is going to improve my life so incredibly that i think i'm in shock and can't fully process it yet. my current (previous, now!) mattress is a decade old and has needed to be replaced for at least 5 years. it's so painful and loud, especially lately, that sometimes i will lay on my floor or go to the couch instead; i used my roommate's bed for a couple nights recently because he was out of town and the dogs sleep in his room and i think it was the only time i've actually slept in months. one time i rolled over onto my stomach and a spring bounced and punched me so hard it made me have to vomit and it took me a year and a half to finally allow myself to sleep on my stomach again.

i've been looking at mattresses for years, but between them being expensive to start with and knowing that they're something you should actually splurge money on to get the best you can, and every time it looked like i'd be able to afford even a cheaper one an emergency would happen and whoops there went my money

i'm so fucking excited for this!!!! there was no note, since it was a factory sealed box, but thank you, saint!!! i look forward to getting up after a full night's sleep, realizing i'm not in complete pain, and breaking down crying the happiest tears. i'll probably cry before that, too, i'm on hormones

As @The Zombie Penguin so elegantly put, if it’s flaws aren’t things that particularly irk you it can be a total blast to play. I had big dumb fun with it personally for what it’s worth, on sale it’s totally worth a grab and play.

If you like arkane's stuff overall and can grab it on sale, I'd say it's pretty solid. It's def not as good as Prey or the best of dishonored, and it's a bit let down by not committing to it's premise hard enough (it really, really really wants to be a full roguelike, but dosen't really commit hard enough. Also it's got a single way to get the ending, which is pretty awww poo to Me).

But it let's you do plenty of goofy arkane bullshit, there's no morality system making you feel bad for actually exercising your toys, and you can get some pretty fun feeling guns and Get Up To Some Shit

Also Cole's dialogue is fantastic

Yeah, I had a blast overall. I can dig more into the flaws I feel it has another time, because they're def there and why I can't call it more than a 7/10 sorta game (for comparison, I'd put dishonored at an 8/10, D2 at 8.5/10, and Prey at 9/10 - most of what they get dinged over is gameplay related, and not everyone will agree with how I approach gameplay/what I like - Prey gets dinged for instance because you can terminally wreck is balance with a bit of forethought + it's trees being poorly balanced vs each other)

They're collected nicely in a series of TPBs so that you can just grab the story in order without having to dig through smaller trades and collected versions (which I nearly made the mistake of doing before learning they had released all those yet trades!).
