It Has Been A Long Year The Last Month In [Social Media]
It has been a long year this last month in social media, and it's all because of one man in particular, and his quest to demonstrate exactly what lighting $44B on fire for the sake of his ego looks like.
Because the other thread closed before i could yell at everyone, please don't podt weird hypotheticals about how other forumers are rape-friendly, and if they do, please don't respond by calling everyone else rapists, like what the actual fuck.
Moments is a really useful way for artists to organize their tweets for themselves and others. Like if you are an artist, it helps to have a moment where you put your art for people who want to view it as the default view of their twitter page is not great for that.
After the US Department of Health and Human Services realized its promoted tweet about updated COVID vaccines was appearing on Twitter pages of white nationalist accounts, the agency told The Washington Post it promptly moved to remove the ads from Twitter. But their promoted tweets weren’t the only ones populating near extremist tweets.
A review by the Post found “roughly 40 brands” put in the same position due to Elon Musk’s recent decision to restore controversial accounts of Twitter users known to promote white nationalist views.

Counterpoint, aren't those probably some of the people most in need of being told to get vaccinated, even if the chance of any of them listening is slim?
While racing light mechs, your Urbanmech comes in second place, but only because it ran out of ammo.

You seem to be making a point that they aren’t getting vaccinated because of a lack of knowledge

Honestly, telling those people they should get vaccinated is probably going to make them LESS likely.
Maybe if they promoted covid vaccines as the ONE WEIRD TRICK THE GLOBALIST BANKING CABAL DOESN'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT.

this is what happens when we go too long without being locked together in a holiday forum and forced to be excellent to each other
Oh sweet! I forgot that was coming. It's funny how much I've grown to enjoy the holiday forum. I used to HAAAAAATE it so much, but given the state of the world, it's a very nice reprieve. Just one of those things about getting older, I guess. You learn to be less of a whiny baby about things not being exactly how you want them and learn to enjoy the change of pace.

I do not acknowledge the authority of the holiday forum because it has a gold fringed flag which means that it is an admiralty forum and it has authority only over the corporate entity of my name and not the living person of my name and I
Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.

Or that anyone wants a screenshot of their ad alongside "jews are taking over the country" tweets.
HHS and the government in general are not corporate brands however. The government should be trying to get its messaging to reach as many people as possible, which includes finding ways to pierce the conservative media bubble.

And I think there are better places than twitter cesspits.
Also nah? Like fuck conservatives, if you don't want to help yourselves I'm done trying to drown along side you as a country. HHS has tried they keep trying, but this is cut bait territory at this point.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
I don't want HHS paying for ads on the Daily Stormer or the Daily Wire or whatever fucked up Nazi site conservatives are congregating on, thank you very much.
If the goal is transparency to build trust, why not just release everything without filter and let people judge for themselves? Including all discussions around current and future actions? Make everything public now.
As I said before, nobody makes fun of Jack Dorsey quite like Jack Dorsey.
If you deleted or never had a twitter account, but still want to occasionally open and read tweets without giving them ad impressions? There's nitter.net, an alternative front-end. You view twitter users' feeds without an account, and it's generally faster than twitter itself since there's no javascript and tracking. Although sometimes images or tweets themselves fail to load. You can also replace twitter.com with nitter.net for direct tweet URLs as well, there are browser extensions that does this automatically.
I've already disabled forum twitter embeds on my web browser so I can click on tweet links to redirect to the nitter version.

My ad blocker is extremely effective, so once I decide I wasn't giving them any more impressions I just deleted the app and only ever look at it through a web browser with ad blocking.
Not having it easy access on my phone had the added benefit of reducing the time I spend looking at it at all, though given I only use chronological order and have a pretty narrowly curated set I follow I was already avoiding most of the junk.
And I've been cleaning up follows I don't really need or care about as much anymore as I go along, expecting one day to finally migrate off if/when a replacement service emerges, or when the cancer finally spreads to my little corner of it and I lose my patience, whichever comes first.

Huh. I thought (client side) blocked ads counted as impressions
I think we all saw this coming from several miles out...
Twitter has been hit with a discrimination lawsuit over the layoffs. A class action was filed in San Fransisco today, alleging illegal targeting of women.
Because of our society, women are less afforded the conditions to live up to the “hardcore” expectations men are

I'm not actually sure what Twitter Moments are, but initial chatter is not a fan of this decision.
Odds the Moments API is borked or something?

I mean, yeah, my immediate thought was he's trolling... but then, it's Dorsey...

Yeah, I have the same read. Jack is calling Elon out for being selective despite all the shit he talks for being transparent.
“This is a legacy verified account. It may or may not be notable.”
The tweet attaches that cautionary note to: the official account for the US White House.
Musk is such a baby.
If that message had been there from the start, maybe we could have avoided this whole thing. At least we know Elon Musk knows that now.

From TDB:
Nothing in the tweet worth quoting, just giving everyone a link so they can follow up on their own. I will quote from their article, however.
Seems like those HR people concerned about the demographic breakdowns were right on the money.
Funny how we keep seeing experts in their field be right about this kind of thing.
As always, Fuck Musk for creating this mess. I hope this albatross is hung around his neck for the rest of his life.
