he's just making shit up, don't waste too much energy trying to think of some more clever reason, there isn't one
Oh I know he's just a big man baby looking for an excuse. I don't think he's playing some 5th D chess, its just even his stated sequence of events makes zero sense.
Which, yeah, is par for the course with right wing nutjobs.
I wonder if he'd immediately implemented this policy and banned the word mastodon, how many people would have heard about it, as opposed to how often I see it talked about on twitter now. Maybe he could have controlled the narrative a bit?

Have you ever heard of the "Streisand Effect"?
I tried to stop my friends hearing about it, but it didn't work for some reason
Linking is fine unless it is relentless. But that isn't what the rules say. And it is not something that anybody has a good idea of where the dividing line is or even what Musk considers that line to be

This is purely to make it more vague so that the rules can be applied unevenly, yeah

This is the business version of Trump's staff having to make policy decision based on whatever he tweeted on his own that day. This is like reason #2,000,000,000,000 why you can't let one person run a big, diverse show; even when you try to implement their whims through stated policy, they'll still fuck it up and it's now everyone else's job to try to make that work somehow.
Just I cannot overstate that we are at the point where the world’s second richest man, a grown ass adult in his fifties, is repeatedly having his 70-something-year-old mother run public relations interference for him whenever he is critiqued
You were free. Free! Uninhibited generational wealth without work and you fucking threw it away
That's maybe the most infuriating part of this whole thing
Jack “I want twitter to be free; practically a new form of protocol not tethered to any single company or domain, a second kind of internet where people can talk freely without restriction, as the old ones dreamed. While I couldn’t accomplish this dream, I think Elon can, and I entrust it to him.”
Musk: “You can’t tell people to go to Mastadon anymore. Stop plugging my competitors or I’ll ban you from my Twitter. This is my company now, I’ll make sure you can’t promote competitors on my service.”
Jack: “Hrmm.”

You guys need to stop posting direct tweets
I keep clicking on them and reading the replies and it's making me dumber
These sites aren't even direct competitors! Every social media site fills a different niche and gets used for different purposes. Like, 'people make posts on there so therefore it's a competitor' is such a low, surface-level understanding of his own freaking business.

I can't tell if he actually thinks they're competitors, or he's just using it as a lame excuse (that he knows his lackeys will parrot) to arbitrarily ban anyone he wants.

Twitter already did have policies that de-emphasize posts that lead you away from Twitter. It's something that YouTubers have been having to deal with for a few years now. If you've ever seen a YouTuber mention that they've just released a video but not provide a link to it that's why.
So what that makes me think is that there's probably at least somebody still working at Twitter who was able to get Musk's ear and convince his weak pissboy brain into thinking linking to other forms of social media is a problem.

Any attempt to remove my tweets that link to my other social media accounts, not violating any law, would actually make #twitter an editorial media, and no longer a social media platform, with civil and criminal liability for *any* illegal content therein.
... and the analysis I am making above in the first tweet applies to all similar posts, not just mine of course.
For a legal reference supporting this, in the US context, you may read how and under what conditions social platforms are protected under Section 230 of the Communications decency act https://www.eff.org/fr/issues/cda230
I dunno if this is true, but this guy seems like they should probably be somewhat educated on the topic what with being Chief Cybercop of France if I'm reading that title correctly.
In any case, though, Elon probably shouldn't want to be a "publisher" because oh boy that just opens Twitter up to endless liability.
Posts
I'm pretty sure at least the last two iterations of this thread have Elon tweets of him responding directly to ol Sol Invictus there.
Imagine spending $44bn to buy twitter simply so you could give yourself a paycheck to post

Strong "let them eat cake" energy in this tweet. She may be a ghost, that message is so out of touch.
"traditional publisher"
Oh, so is Twitter a publisher and therefore responsible for the content like a traditional publisher too now?
In a more real way, this is half-dimensional chess.

By and large people trip over themselves to excuse any action by corporate entities
"oh well yeah that makes sense because they need to extract as much capital as possible, sure"

No problem, I give it days before Lex Loser disables twitter embedding.
Yes, That's why he had to say no "traditional publisher". Because any comparison to similar businesses to Twitter would show how absurd this is.
Not disabled entirely. You can still occasionally embed tweets.
Just not relentlessly.

Between this and the dril tweet, I'm starting to think the next game is trying to get banned for hilarity.

What is this shit
The flailing is hilarious and pathetic
because of the backpedaling, you see
it's a great joke give it a second to breathe
Going forward, I will make sure to use a plebiscite to ratify my nonsensical decisions.
So if something happens then that means twitter can see my dumbness
