Damn never would have guessed Elon 'why don't other companies want to do business with me' Musk would think of the stunning cost saving measure of simply not paying what he's contractually obligated to.

Freakin hell I was about to say. This is Trump business strategy 101. Basically the legal equivalent of "Come at me bro! I'll drown you in legal fees!". Though given how he's speedrunning pissing everyone off, I wouldn't be surprised this reaches class action status real quick.

Elon likes the "richest man in the world" moniker too much that he's going to go out of his way to throw as little money as possible on top of the 44 billion he burned.

It really feels like he's just going to keep running twitter if full defiance of the law, his financial obligations, and God. Just daring someone to try and stop him.

You mean his next door neighbor during his most nazi-eist years?

Who went on roadtrips and joined social clubs together?

Edison may not have got an iron cross like Ford, but he was almost certainly a fan of the national socialist party.

can twitter get evicted if they don't pay rent? like how does that work, does the office building owner come in and change the locks on the door and call the sheriff's office or will the company just get sued in court

They settle in or out of court. Twitter leaves if those are the terms they agree to.

Not paying your bills works very differently when you're rich. Everything is a negotiation.

Basically everything Musk says about AI shows he understands jack shit about it

Which is worrying when he is staking major stuff on it like Tesla's self driving garbage is supposed to set it apart from other electric vehicles, that silly Tesla robot, etc.

Smells like a major cashflow problem to me. Like, if there's paperwork (and that's an "if" according to the article, but there is at least public statements) that says you are going to pay everyone 3 month severance and then you don't, you will either a) lose the lawsuit or b) lose the lawsuit and face penalties from the state of California. Either way it's going to cost more than just taking care of it.

Publicly not paying rent or a plane bill? Yeah, you might settle and save a little cash but it's going to hurt your reputation and it will bite you in the ass down the line.

And they're already trying to shut down one of their back-up data centers from what I recall reading an earlier article. They have a Data center in San Francisco which I think shares or is at least near the building of their Headquarters, they have another one in Portland, Oregon and another one in Sacramento, California. From what I recall reading about it, they're looking to shutter the Sacramento location in an effort to cut costs:

About the paperwork, IANAL but I suspect you could make a case that the email itself, from the CEO of the company, sent explicitly about the future of your employment, and promising 3 months severance, constitutes enough of a contract to be enforceable.

Verbal contracts are legally binding, the issue is that proving they actually happened is usually impossible which is why paper enters the equation. In this case there is undeniable proof that Musk made an offer: Agree to this term of employment or be fired with 3 months severance.

But once again importantly IANAL I am sure I've messed up every legal supposition there.

At least some of this comes up in this long thread. Though as a whole and individual elements it’s truly awful. I warn anyone with any technical or engineering background this will probably cause searing pain. I’m still recovering frankly.
