Hard to not get high on yourself in that situation.

Them thinking of it as $150,000 per year for 20 years is a really good way to look at it. The stories of folks winning money and then going broke not shortly after are abundant. They sound really reasonable in that interview understanding that this money will have to last decades since they don't plan on making another game.

It's almost certainly not $3 million a piece, it's approximately $6 million in sales the first week, but Steam takes 30% of that, and the remainder is divided somehow between Tarn and Zach and the publisher Kitfox and possibly the other people who contributed to the steam version, in a ratio that we are not privy to. And then 37% income tax on whatever they get since they're getting it all at once and will certainly hit the maximum annual tax bracket.

My most played is FFXIV but it's an MMO so that's also kind of cheating.

Second is Elden Ring. Game is big.

Third is Marvel Midnight Suns, but I'm not done with it yet. I was at 50 hours when I hit Part Two but I imagine I'll go through other parts much quicker just because I don't have nearly as much to unlock anymore. When some review said that the average player will probably only hit level 5 rank with three or four heroes, I took that as a challenge.

In 10 years, gamers will use AI prompts to build what they play

In a guest editorial, Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe creative director Clint Hocking looks at the future of artificial intelligence
In 2032, someone sitting on a bus will be able to tell their phone to play Demolition Man, written and directed by Jordan Peele and starring Millie Bobby Brown as Spartan, Lil Nas X as Phoenix, and Tom Holland in the Sandra Bullock role. Machine learning will be able to analyze every word Jordan Peele has ever written while simultaneously examining his oeuvre as a director — looking not only at how to rewrite the 1993 script to make it more unsettling and odd, but also how to frame and light individual scenes and shots. 3D sets and locations will be generated, the stars will be aged to match the requirements of the script, and their performances and voices will all be synthesized, with licensing fees automatically dispatched to their bank accounts. The entire process of generating a two-hour film from a 40-year-old script as a pastiche of the works and performances of everyone involved will take several minutes, but just as with streaming services today, you’ll be able to start watching within a few seconds, with the film being generated on the fly in the cloud. The technologies that enable this future mostly exist now — they are just not robust or well-integrated enough yet. I believe we are close enough to this future today, and the technological foundation is well-enough established, that it is no longer a question of whether this will happen; it is merely a question of when. But the important question is, how will this new future transform us and our culture?

As a game developer, I sometimes feel that I have a front-row seat for this coming transformation. I already produce works that may be experienced in radically different ways by different members of the audience. This has always been the case with games; no two games of football or go are the same. In recent years, there have been many more attempts to offer this diversity of experience in stories as well. In Watch Dogs: Legion, we intentionally set out to make a game where we abdicated control over casting to the player: You could be anybody you wanted, and when you watched a cutscene, we had no idea who would be in it. Just as the generated Peele version of Demolition Man still has the same general plot as the 40-year-old original, we knew what each scene would be about and how the plot would move, but we didn’t know if you’d be playing Sylvester Stallone, Millie Bobby Brown, or an old lady named Helen.
    What is this crap.

    What is this crap.

you can make up whatever stupid bullshit you want and put it on the internet as a prediction

5% drop rate and there’s only 4 in existence?

That’s Babylon Falls levels of playerbase.

It’s just someone looking at the AI image thing and imagining if instead of an image it’s a movie or video game.

The problem is that nobody would want to play a game an AI program throws together based on criteria. Nor are the masses looking to replay Mass Effect and replace Shepard with a cat voiced by Christopher Walken… wait maybe he’s on to something.

My most played game this year is almost certainly Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel, a game I both love and hate depending on who I'm up against, although unique banlist aside that mainly comes down to the actual card game see-sawing between fun, creative archetypes and complete degeneracy.

I barely remember anything I played this year. I haven't exactly kept up with anything new.

Probably Warframe early on? Maybe Rimworld's multiplayer mod. Multiplayer Rimworld was a lot of fun.

Currently playing Star Trek Online for some non-pvp ship combat funtimes. The game's UI is truly atrocious and communicates fuckall information well.

My top three most played games this year are:

    Neon White - 26 hrs
    Vampire Survivors - 23 hrs
    Dwarf Fortress - 17.2 hrs

Dwarf Fortress may overtake the other two by the end of the year.

At a guess, I've probably sunk the most hours into Breath of the Wild this year, which I picked up mostly to entertain my kids now they're getting into peak Nintendo years. Never been much of a Zelda fan before this.

My top played games were, in no real order.

Genshin Impact - still love it, still play every day.
Pokemon Unite - I don't love it. But it's fine, and I can play it with my wife and kid and they can carry me. Sylveon for life.
Persona 5 Royale - still love those damn kids!
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes - more damn kids I love! And as fanfiction to boot!
Live A Live - this is a gem! Seven short stories in JRPG styles that all change a little, with an eighth after, and then a ninth that wraps everything together. It's like if they made Octopath Traveler years ago but actually tied all the individual stories together. So good.

WiiU: Windrunner ; Guild Wars 2: Shadowfire.3940 ; PSN: Bradcopter

Seems like it was Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC at 89 hours but I didn't finish it: got bored with the grinding at the last chapter.

I finished up the last of the achievements in Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth.

Only right at the end did I notice this:
    urknjbo261zy.png

That middle pillar is a secret! Problem is... if you scan that QR code you get the text "Continue standing here to break the floor"... but that's NOT how you break the floor to get to the room below. You jump up and down 50 times on the same spot.

    Neat idea, messed up execution!
