Was a good day for just abusing the all Shuri meta all the time -
INFINITE
Final cube came from this game that involved a daredevil player retreating before even resolving turn 5 - just play shuri guys /s
A number of games were won just dropping cosmo on turn 3 with priority and catching a thanos player or wave or thor
I messed around with a couple other decks in the low 90s but the rest of the climb was the same Shuri deck that chaoshat posted awhile back and I think is now the meta shuri deck I came across - cosmo/armor to protect the shuri target - and then aero or taskmaster; but it also just has a lot of decent play lines

Sinister London and Leader don't seem to play well? Pulled a Leader from The Raft on left (which I had won). Mid was Sinister London, and right was I dunno but I had 3 open spaces. Opponent Waved on 5, so I drop Leader mid, which also clones him on Right. They drop Death and Shulk on mid, cloning them both right. I should have cloned their Mid-Death/Shulk to the Right and won, but it didn't trigger? I thought the On Reveal in this case ignored initiative ( I played first) but seems like something went wrong and I lost 4 cubes.
Leader on reveal is cards PLAYED. They weren't played right, they were copied there.
Yeah I just misread Leader. I for some reason thought it was you copied the cards they played at Current Location to Your Right Of Current when I read the patch notes forever ago, and since I don't normally run Leader I didn't catch my error. My lost cubes but at least no shenanigans.
Leader got Nerfed even harder than I thought.

This game is starting to feel more and more pay-to-win. My first two seasons I hit 60 and 70 easily just by getting the pass and doing missions. The third season I didn't get the pass and missed out on Surfer but played the same amount, and dropped to 40. The season after I didn't bother getting Zabu until the last week, and I hovered around 40 again, mostly only playing dailies and no more than that. This season I picked up Shuri last week (not the Season card, I know) and hit 40 incredibly easily after that and feel like I'll probably hit at least 60 just doing dailies and finishing out the season.
It seems clear that while you can climb without getting certain cards, it is far harder to do so, and takes you many, many more games of hard grinding to do so. The question then becomes whether you're willing to put in the time and effort.
In an abstract sense you can have fun and play just fine, but at a macro level this game this expects you to trade time for money if you care about gaining rank. Which I guess is the differentiator - whether you care about rank or not. As someone who doesn't really care, I'm still seeing the basic mechanisms at play and it's starting to be a turn off - at least in terms of whether or not I'll buy anything moving forward.
This is kind of a bizarre take to me not because I don't think it isn't true but more that it just generically applies to all card games. The cards you need change with nerfs and buffs and new releases so it's always a moving target. Indeed...that is the point.
Now, certainly this specific meta is a bit worse than others with the current top dogs, but I think it's reasonable it can be considered an outlier. It's not that long ago that something like Sera Miracle/Control was perfectly viable and that deck is still pretty decent now.
I guess my question is, what would actually feel better for you and also leave a viable business model for SD?
That's a fair take - if a card game's business model is based on making more cards, then you will invariably need more cards over time. I was never big into these kinds of games to begin with so maybe to someone like me, spending $100+ a year seems a bit much for a digital card game, while to others it's probably an entire magnitude lower than what they're historically used to.
A part of it as well is that as I've gotten older I've had less and less patience for games that do not respect my time. And while Snap does a lot of things right with respect to its business model, I feel like the time aspect is not something people seem to acknowledge. In order to rank, you need to spend a lot of time playing the game, and that amount of time significantly decreases if you have certain cards, all other things remaining equal. It may not "feel" like a game where you can spend $20 to skip 500 levels of item grinding, but the results are exactly the same in aggregate.
The time thing is 100% a fair point. I don't think there's really any ranking ladder that respects your time though. The ladder needs you to play enough things to ensure you actually belong where you end up and to prevent streaky wins. The amount of time, to a certain extent, is a feature not a bug. If getting to infinite was something players could reliably do in a couple hours on a lazy Sunday it just wouldn't mean anything. It's literally designed to be a marathon, not a sprint.
I actually already think Snap has one of the easier/shorter ladders of nearly any game I've played. It took me forever to just hit DIAMOND in StarCraft. There were ranks after that I never even attempted. I'm not sure I ever did better than food in LOL. I did hit top rank in LOR but that definitely felt more arduous.

You could run Luke cage over another card such as Titania and run the 4/10 that reduces power, sorry forgot name. Luke cage also prevents cards being reduced to 3 by valk so you can even run some bigger cards.

Zero-titania or as a last card in decks dropping a 5 cost card to end, so red skull / taskmaster / cpt. Marvel.
Occasionally it works out where playing titania and another card to flip works out well to clog their lane, but playing it a bunch I rarely actually used get her that way

Ok, thanks. So the actual switching mechanic is something you play around rather than actively use?
Usually, but this was in a shuri deck, so I really only cared about big stats.
If you were using her in a deck with more cheap cards so you had more options for flipping her I could see trying to do it more, but you also really want your opponent to be filling up a lane early for this to be reliable I think, which is hard to build a deck around
Bounce update: totally worth it for the high of Falcon-scooping a full board of 1 costs out from under a Killmonger.
I ended up swapping in Angela for Bishop because 3 cost was awkward a lot of the time, and if you run Iron Fist you can play things to Angela's lane, shove them out, then scoop Iron Fist and do it again. She gets bigger than Bishop ever did for me. Human Torch combos well in there, too.

The decks in which you use titania to block someone are not very good. She's either a turn 6 play or Zero.
Titania on Cloning Vats is fun. Would playing her to Bar Sinister just fill both sides?
Got my variant for 47 on the Pass, and it’s another Collector.
Sadly no, and I've seen at least two people try. She only flips on cards played, so you just fill your side, she also is the last thing to activate, so they will later on get copies of whatever they play before any flips
I’m like the only person playing shuri at rank 40 apparently.
I’m losing faith in enchantress is the deck though. I just almost never play her and when I want to it’s often on a cosmo lane.
Wait, what does your list look like? The best Shuri decks aren't running enchantress.
It’s literally just the last snapzone meta report list subbing enchantress for Sauron

Looking at that list enchantress probably could be cut, on 5 or 6 your probably always able to play out more power then whatever effects your turning off
You could cut it and just play aero, which really is a question every deck should consider sadly
Yeah Enchantress is a terrible substitution for Sauron, she doesn't work at all curvewise. Just swap in Chavez and put in Aero or Cpt. Marvel or Vision in place of Typhoid Mary
I think the one thing I'll say about the current Shuri meta is that it is by far the most "solved" I have ever seen it, every game people will snap or retreat immediately on any anti-Shuri location, losing the T4 play, or losing the T5 stat dump. There is some counterplay happening but it's overall way less than when I've ran any other meta deck
Shuri and Hela feel bad because you kinda have to gamble on where the play is gonna happen. I did get Valk and slotted her into my deck just for fun, it's amusing to turn a field of hulks into babies
Because Tony Stark is my hero, I buy any good Iron Man variant I see - just got an awesome Rescue one and I'm running her in this Sera deck so I get to see it all the time now
Posts
No, but she’s in the same series as Shuri so equally accessible. Also her deck is slightly more Aero-proof
