Ever since 2016 I've noticed more and more of the racists, bigots, and fuckwits of all stripes have started to cease using the euphemisms that once gave them plausible deniability for their horrid beliefs. There's a video on this that I recall basically saying when euphemisms stop being used that's a very bad sign because it indicates the people who used them no longer think they'll be punished for going mask off, meaning society is shifting and not for the better.

Yeah the Overton Window has been getting shoved to the right as of late, and it sucks so much that the President, ostensibly the leader of the party ostensibly in opposition to the Far Right in this country, can't even hold some press conferences to unequivocally condemn this shit, much less actually push federal legislation to protect against GOP-held state legislatures stripping away people's rights and criminalizing their very existence.

Remember when he gave an address to the nation in the fall about that stuff and the networks refused to broadcast it?

apparently, on September 1st, 2022, Biden gave a speech that the networks (ABC, NBC, CBS) decided was "too political", especially in light of the then upcoming midterms.

so they showed their regular programming.

It's gonna be fun watching society forget him and his legacy as quickly and completely as Al Capp.
    JICYDK, folks:

Al Capp was one of the biggest newspaper cartoonists, literally ever. But thanks to a later-in-life turn as a political reactionary and disgusting sex pest, you'd never know it now.

He famously told Goldie Hawn, who had just basically fought off his assault attempt, to "Go home and marry a Jewish dentist," because he would make sure she never got work in Hollywood after rejecting him.

Tbh, given that "white" is a constantly evolving definition that doesnt really describe historical, geographic, ethnic, or cultural identity, it kind of isnt "ok to be white". "Whiteness" as a thing was constructed, maintained, and updated specifically to prop up white supremacy. It has very little meaning or purpose beyond saying "these are the good ones', and expanding or contracting that as the situation permits. We'd all be in a much better place if the idea of a white identity was discarded.

Having a lighter skin pigment and a largely western European heritage is fine though.

The poll that Adams is working off of was 1000 people and 22% of those identified as black.

Unsure how many of that 22% answered "it's not ok to be white" ior whatever to whatever bullshit question it was.

He then applied that to "checks notes" every poc in the U.S.

Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.

Now, I want to be very clear — (applause) — very clear up front: Not every Republican, not even the majority of Republicans, are MAGA Republicans. Not every Republican embraces their extreme ideology.

I know because I’ve been able to work with these mainstream Republicans.

    🤔

At least four major suppliers of Hyundai Motor Co and sister Kia Corp have employed child labor at Alabama factories in recent years, a Reuters investigation found, and state and federal agencies are probing whether kids have worked at as many as a half dozen additional manufacturers throughout the automakers’ supply chain in the southern U.S. state.

At a plant owned by Hwashin America Corp, a supplier to the two car brands in the south Alabama town of Greenville, a 14-year-old Guatemalan girl worked this May assembling auto body components, according to interviews with her father and law enforcement officials. At plants owned by Korean auto-parts maker Ajin Industrial Co, in the east Alabama town of Cusseta, a former production engineer told Reuters he worked with at least 10 minors. And six other ex-employees of Ajin said they, too, worked alongside multiple underage laborers.

Given the historical context that whiteness is used in. I'd argue anyone of European descent isn't well served using the term if they want to avoid appearing racist. The term used to only cover Anglo-Saxon Christians and then when the racists of that group no longer had a reliable majority, it was extended out to include other shitheads from other European ethnicities. If you go far enough back, I wouldn't be considered white simply based on my French, German, Italian or Irish heritage (probably missing a few others, pretty sure there is some Greek in the genetics as well). Hell, would probably run into issues even today because some of my Jewish ancestry is pretty noticeable.

This gets into the other area, where the asshole didn't consider some people white because of their religious beliefs or cultural traditions. It didn't matter how pasty white someone's skin was, if they didn't perform all the customs that the asshole white supremacists considered to be white customs and didn't have Anglo-Saxon names. They weren't considered white. Hell, you can see criticism of that very habit even today. One issue many Indian Americans have with the GOP, is that they point how people like Nikki Haley and Bobby Jindal got to be republican governors by abandoning their heritage outside of being able to tick the Indian American box. Another example of this is Ted Cruz, the asshole started using Ted, so that he could better integrate with the white supremacists that dominant his political party.

it sounds like the survey wording and the response to it are exactly what the white supremacists are aiming for when they codify the phrase "it's ok to be white" as a signal to each other. Nonwhite people become aware of it before white people because it's necessary for their safety to be aware of things like that, and then when white people to hear about it, the innocuous wording is a "they're the REAL racists for pointing out our racism!" shield. Same with the fucking hand signals and the 14 words.
