I watched a Nagatoro and whispered, "Manic pixie mean girl" to myself.
Of course it's wish fulfillment for lonely people that's what most of YA fiction is and that's what most anime is and young adults are all lonely, even when they're not, because their brains are rapidly breaking and reforming into something even more broken.
Also you can be attracted to people for like, a variety of reasons. Like in Uzaki chan, the male lead is shredded to fuck from constantly working out. So you could say it's wish fulfillment on both sides for that one lol
Also: interviews with monster girls, which always seems to be sort of teetering just on the edge of being a harem, but then again the main character has the heart of Mr Rogers and the body of Jack Reacher, so like... shit, it'd be weird if the girls weren't crushing on him a bit, he's like the opposite of random schlub wish fulfillment protagonist. You're just supposed to think he's great, too.
Also since he's a responsible adult he never even looks twice at the girls, just the adult female teacher.
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.
I mean they're just romcoms right? Are Sleepless in Seattle and You've Got Mail just bait for lonely nonweebs?
I mean, some of those anime are quite a bit hornier but then we can make comparisons to 50 Shades of Grey. Of course, really I'm not even opposed to the existence of fanservice.
do you have any examples for romcom that aren’t 15-30 years old
Me and my wife went to see Deadpool on Valentine's Day - and then I proposed to her.
If everyone involved is ok with it, it doesnt matter.
Well, and are adults.
Stuff like World's End Harem is like, the whole scenario is manufactured to be as titillating as possible. One of the protagonists is the only dude at an all girls school where everyone including the teachers is trying to get in on the repopulating action
The point of minors is we don't consider them capable of being "ok with it". They're not considered capable of giving consent.
So when I said that everyone being an adult was the default assumption.

I watched Darling in the Franxx up until about episode 20 and was basically ok with it?
For one reason or another I had to stop and then I forgot about it (this happens with many things regardless of quality, and means nothing. LOTG is now my favourite anime but I took two months long breaks in between watching that show, one two months long and another about six months).
And now people keep talking about how shit the ending is an I'm wondering if maybe I should just leave it alone.

Darling in the Franxx is in my brain for two things, one is as a horrible replacement for Kyoko in Initial D (who always referred to her crush as 'darling'), and the other is

I remember franxx started awful, then for a couple episodes looked like maybe, MAYBE there was something there, until it quickly ensured us that nope it’s absolute garbage.

Trigger did the character and mech designs and it shows but everything else is like.
Yikes

Yeah a lot of people forget that A-1 handled the majority of the script and such, and hoo boy can A-1 be a dumpster fire sometimes WRT adaptations or original content
Darling in the Franxx is the most explicit example of Shinzo Abe's push to fund anime to try and encourage young people to get married and start families, to the point that it's practically a parody someone would come up with if they were given that as a prompt.

I'd say Spy X Family is a much better effort.
That's the joke that was making the rounds, yeah. The thing about Spy X Family, of course, is that it's a solid character-driven comedy with some genre trappings, and the familial appeal just naturally comes with the characters all being likable and being nice to each other.

I was reading Gokurakugai, and it struck me just how much care goes into drawing hands, they're just extremely detailed.
And I have a theory that it's entirely because the author is into women smoking.
morbid curiosity is gone
Anime why
I'm hoping this one succeeds, it's got a solid basic hook, an interesting world, and overall gorgeous art
