first anime woulda been something like doraemon when i was living in hong kong, but i don't remember it
probably my real intro was jumping on with the pokemon wave and getting into dbz from there, which my friends at school had already gotten a head start on
I cannot tell you how jarring it was to watch Totoro in Japanese for the first time like, as an adult and realizing the intro song isn't in English, they specifically redubbed the entire into song and the lyrics are burned into my mind
The sub is great but because of that song, I'll always prefer the dub

i like the jp version of the totoro theme too but i tell you what, it was a big disappointment getting the disney release of totoro and realising they re-re-recorded the songs
I guess the first one for me would have been Battle Of The Planets (if that counts, given what they changed. Huh, and I didn't realise they'd had another try at adapting it)

(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
My first anime? Avatar the Last Airbender, Code Lyoko, Kappa Mikey, Megas XLR, Wakfu, Teen Titans, Castlevania, RWBY, Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi, and of course The Boondocks
My very first anime was definitely Dragonball Z. The Namek Saga was like Groundhog Day before the movie ever existed, constantly looping from beginning to "Five minutes" every few weeks before rerunning it all again

The loop would reset for me literally the second Goku made it to Namek, then we were back to the Sayain Saga and I would lose more hope of ever getting to see a super Saiyan.
I'm pretty sure the first anime I saw was the first Galaxy Express 999 movie when they ran it on the Sci-Fi Channel back in the mid-90s. It was definitely before the launch of Toonami on Cartoon Network, I know that.

That's also how I saw that movie. My family was on an extended vacation and were currently staying with some friends in Ann Arbor. I had the basement, and was flipping through stations when I saw that were doing an anime segment. One night they showed Galaxy Express and the next night they showed the sequel and I remember us going out to eat with those friends and the whole time at the restaurant I was antsy because my parents always chat forever and but I didn't want to tell them I wanted us to leave so I could go watch cartoons.
Just dredged up a memory of something I used to watch quite a bit. https://youtu.be/lVQYMWrFaaM
It was from that time when sabban used to just buy random anime and show the episodes completely out of order.
Teknoman/Tekkaman Blade is the very first anime I ever watched!
It was airing on a before-school kids programme here in Australia when I was in primary school, and I watched the entire series start to finish with my brother before school every day
I distinctly remember the hot springs episode of Tenchi Muyo where they painstakingly added bathing suits to very naked characters only for that illusion to be dashed by kazaa lite
First anime was Princess Mononoke which I saw when I was like 5 or 6.
I saw this in theaters at age 12 because the ad in the newspaper said it was like star wars so I asked me dad to take me
I feel aged 2000 years by typing that

I saw Mononoke during college, yeesh.
My first exposure to films were Vampire Hunter D and Tenchi Muyo In Love! on the Sci-Fi channel(back before Tenchi getting edited was a thing). It was insane to have a movie premiere on a network like that, it was unreal.

pretty rad fight episode. Isekai princess did some magic amphetamine and bisected monsters. Then she killed a dragon it knew she was an isekai then it cursed her by burning its existence onto her very soul

Alucard is an undead nightmare that can do almost anything... and got his ass kicked so hard by a human it changes him, if not into a "good" person, then a monster with nostalgia for the living.

The story behind that is just amazing - they basically got the raw footage...and nothing else. So they had to build the localization from scratch.

I remember RTL II rebroadcasting Dragon Ball like five times in a row before they managed to air any of Z.

When Toonami started up I watched the anime on there very closely. Maybe the editors missed something, you know?

I remember an absolutely amazing one for Gurren Lagann that as far as I can tell isn't on YouTube anymore. This is the best one I can find.
