Capitalism thread, I have to confess: I collect records. It's a frivolous, overpriced hobby that takes up too much space in my living room. With that said, this arrived today and I'd honestly forgotten how much I liked this album.

    Yup. Pretty neat.

So tell me what bidet you got and how did you solve the power situation? I'd love to get one but the nearest outlet is all the way across the bathroom.

You can get plenty of bidets that don't use power. Either cold water only (which is not really as jarring as you might imagine it to be, honestly), or ones that tap into the hot water line from your nearby sink. Honestly, we've been so happy with our cold water one that we haven't felt any need to "upgrade" to one that takes a hot water line.

I've used the Tushy model both with and without hot water hookup and I can also attest that it's not a super noticeable difference.

I've generally wanted one, but for our anniversary meal this year, my partner and I are making shakshuka this weekend, and I don't want to kill the seasoning on our cast-iron griddle or 9-inch pans, and it would be ~*so aesthetic*~ for serving. Maybe I'll hit the Le Creuset outlet in the next day or two.

fake-edit: I did! They had some crazy discounts, but the size I settled on, none of the colors appealed, boo. (3.5 qt braiser, since we have an inherited Instapot that covers our slow-cooking needs.) I successfully fought FOMO -- didn't buy _____ only because it was a good deal, and would've regretted because I never used it or disliked the color.

There's more pitting, glaze inclusions, and thinner spots with the iron showing near the top, but it's the only instance I've noticed so far of the iron seeming to actually poke through the surface of the enamel.

The outer glaze is worse; thin over the entire lid in a way that even the outlet pieces didn't exhibit:

I've never seen a Le Creuset that was perfect and totally free of pits, especially around the rim. Your first picture looks pretty typical to me. But the rest of them are definitely not acceptable. Looks like the glaze was fucked up on it. I would definitely exchange it.

Yeah, we have a couple of their pots and have given some as gifts, and every rim we’ve seen looks like that.

Anecdotally, the lifetime warranty won't refund for pinholes in the enamel unless it turns into a rust spot. Usually they don't.

The rim I figured is mostly just the nature of raw iron, but good to know it's not supposed to be otherwise. And the validation that the inadequate glazing on the lid isn't just an accepted variation I hadn't heard of. Thank you, everyone!

    But, sidebar:

The point of the first photo was an attempt to show the little volcano spike of iron poking up through the enamel -- the little black spot (horizontally) centered in the pic. On the cooking surface, there's uneven glazing, little flecks of colored glaze, and pinholes, but what was truly notable to me is the extruding bit of iron compromising the smooth interior. Like, it's even a bit sharp.

I have made enough ceramics that I'm comfortable saying someone didn't do their due diligence, but how that intersects with (expectations of) Le Creuset wares, I wasn't sure.

So yeah, thanks for the feedback, it's helpful!

I will say, if you've got an outlet nearby and like Turquoise, Flame, uhhh... Cerise, or Vapor (there's a couple other 'core' colors they always stock), or want to take your chances on random items, there is currently a bananas sale on top of discounts. I was briefly looking at a braiser with grill lid that was listed at 380 and would've been 200. You can call and ask about specific stock, too.

The local outlet mall is the only place where I can reliably find work shirts in the style and size that I like. There's also a Le Creuset outlet in the same mall. So every time a shirt gets damaged or a pen leaks ink in my pocket, I end up driving out to buy a $130 shirt that comes with a free piece of enameled cast iron.

So, the only other Ocean braiser they had in stock also had a (less severe) lack of glaze on the lid, a problem the lady helping me had not previously seen -- so, it might be an issue with that particular glaze, but I'm taking a chance on getting it direct.

... There's also the exact one on FB market....
    .........!!

Also, why is it people in my region hardly ever put a description or even adequate title on shit they're trying to sell on there? It's something I'll occasionally see on craigslist, but it's almost the default on FB marketplace to just be like, "Bookcase for sale" in the title, and that's it, apparently all the information a potential buyer might want.

So my dogshit phone is not only covered in cracks,
it freezes, restarts or otherwise fucks up about 8 times a day, and actively works against you using it for anything at all (eg the keyboard either periodically collapses for no reason, or opens for no reason and won't minimize). It also has started making it impossible for me to 2FA into my work account, mostly by being way too slow to open apps.

Since apple still isn't 100% comparable with Google fi, plus iPhones are still ridic expensive, I went on the fi site and found I can get a galaxy for free as long as I promise to use it for 24 months

Setting it up now. Excited to find out the new and interesting ways this device will piss me off.

In early November, I fronted a local artisan $110 for a project they estimated would be ready in early December.

I finally plucked up the courage to call them at the beginning of February to ask about the status of my deeply frivolous purchase, and they said it would definitely be done within the week and they'd call me when it was ready.

I assume the protocol is that I'm supposed to call them now and they'll lie about it being ready tomorrow.

Joke's on them, though, I've still got the further $110 I owe them for the finished product.
