There is an auction type place near me that gets Amazon returns. Got some pretty good stuff at pretty big discounts. Managed to snag 2 of the new PS5 compatible guitars for about 70% off, one of them was still completely wrapped in plastic and never opened. Played with the family last night for the first time, my son and me on guitar and my wife singing, and it was a blast. Going to buy a bunch of song packs as well.
This is the cover art of my favorite album of all time

Today Master Replicas confirmed that it’s releasing a new “Picard Cup” replicating the design used in TNG, Voyager, and Star Trek: Picard, collaborating with the original homeware company that provided the mugs for TNG art department to use during production, Bodum. One of several drink receptacles Picard imbibes with throughout the show, this particular mug—designed as part of Bodum’s BISTRO system in 1974 by Carsten Jørgensen—had been on sale due to both its iconic, simple retro-future design and its fandom association with Star Trek
The actual price to pay however, is the cost of the set of four mugs: they’re available for pre-order now for $55, ahead of a release in February 2025.
I have a couple of phillips Hue ones which are generally fine but they've been threatening I'll need to connect them to an online account soon for like the last 6 months and I can't imagine being happy with the idea of putting my close network secure lights on the internet so that a company can promise me they're keeping it secure now. There's some options if that ever comes to pass but it might eventually lead to needing to make a raspberry pi home network hub to replace their shit
Yeah looking into it I really don't want something that connects to the wider Internet
Boo
Maybe I can get an led light strip that has a remote

I use the Philips wiz A19 bulbs. They're like $12 each at home depot. I don't connect them to a smart hub or anything like that, just connected to an app on my phone.
Bought some plastic todaya month+ ago last season, mostly vintage.
The hair clip is not vintage, but was bought in a vintage shop. People get a real tickle out of if it given how many compliments I get!
I got a cute little yellow celluloid pill or trinket box or something, but it very aesthetically holds earplugs next to the bed.
Couple black acrylic or bakelite bangles from my second-favorite thrift shop. One oval, the other hinged (exactly the same as one I've had in white for years!)
I am legit super nostalgic for my old blue diskman from like '03
I miss headphone jacks, even phones that still have them can't use decent ones anymore, they break so fuckin fast and the dongles are so easy to lose
Plus I can't listen to music in bed falling asleep with worrying about having to turn on do not disturb to not get interrupted by random spam email notifications or whatever and or getting sucked into social media and getting a ton of blue light in my eyes
I'm not a power user, but this 2023 Moto G Stylus 5G is working fine. I don't use my headphones with it often, but it's nice to have the option. I do imagine it'll be one of the last from a major manufacturer to have the jack, but it was one of my must-haves while phone-shopping, and this'll last me hopefully years.
Also, p. sure I have my discman around here, unless I finally donated it in the last clearout... I still have my original 40gig ipod (which kept the faith for a respectable career but is seemingly dead), and an ipod touch that I dread replacing when it eventually gives up. ...I also have my teenage boombox that no longer even plays CDs, and I don't have a studio that needs a beater radio, so I should probably donate it for parts, but...
I love live plants and vases and such, and try to keep the house petsafe so my beloved idiots don't puke everywhere or otherwise see harm. So I don't use essential oils, minimize candles, and am super careful with greenery. So this would actually be a great little bit of seasonal decor. Maybe I'll get a real wreath for the front door this year....
Yeah I have a couple of Ikea bulbs connected to a raspberry pi Zigbee controller just because I really don't want it connected to the wider internet. Took a little bit to setup, but now it's mostly working smoothly. Using home assistant to control it (open source platform for controlling this kind of stuff). Use their corresponding app and can control it nicely enough (only when connected to the home WiFi, since I did not want the wider internet connection)
Got to find a cheap stereo receiver for my turntable
Gonna wire my old OEM car speakers to it (in series so they are 8ohm pairs so as not to fry the receiver) in some mdf enclosures
Not gonna sound as good as a set of proper bookshelf speakers I'm sure but you can't put a price on recycling ya know?
Edit: lol nevermind they must have thrown out the factory speakers when they put in my new ones I thought they'd be in my trunk but the actually weren't
We've had a very car-focused summer in our consumption. First, my car (Beetle) wouldn't pass inspection, so we were a 3-person house with 1 car. Fortunately, a friend of Mrs Lohan's was selling an Audi cheap, so we grabbed that for her. I posted pics in here a while back. However, as a fun bonus, three weeks ago, our Kia decided to need 4K in repairs and we decided that was just too much for an older car with tons of miles. Also, my son just got his license, and I work from home, so we started hunting for a car to share.
Here's the new ride (with my rather happy son) - it's a 2016 Cadillac ATS.
The amazing part is that we kept nearly the same payments we had before, but are driving much nicer cars now, and both have AWD which will be nice in our lovely Maine winters.
I also stupidly bought a few new knock-off emulation handhelds in a bout of sketchy capitalism. I'll have to post them when they arrive and I have them set up.
I read somewhere that most cellphones have am and fm receivers built into them, but they don't work well.
I have an old radio in the garage too, I should mess with it the next time I'm in there working on arrows or whatever
What they used to do was let you connect wired headphones and it would use the wire as an antenna. But no more headphone jack means that doesn't work anymore. There are a lot of cheap phones that still have the built in am/fm antennas but the expensive ones don't because reasons.

Yeah, AM radio requires a long antenna to get even remotely decent reception. Phones (without the aforementioned headphone trick) just can't do it. My modern stereo receiver even still includes the 6-foot long wire I have to plug into the back to get any AM radio reception at all.
Ah, it stinks, it sucks, it's anthropologically unjust

Hell yeah! My summer was also sketchy handhelds and new car summer. AWD is definitely worth it in the snow.

The awesome is for the explanation, not the reality.

Thanks. It's very stupid considering my phone radio can go from as low as 600 mhz up to 39ghz but not down to double digit mhz where FM radio is. Maybe there is a technical limitation but i would guess they locked it off just because fuck the poors.

I added a Trimui Smart Pro and an RGB30 to my Miyoo Mini Plus and other, non sketchy, handhelds. I'm still configuring and setting them up but so far I'm really impressed.

Nice collection! The RGB30 is basically tailor-made to play Pico-8 games, so you should definitely throw that on there and give some a try.

Edit: That Ted Leo print fucking rocks
Stupid salesman talked me into the expensive one
But hey if it helps with the back problems it'll be worth it I guess
Edit: regarding art prints I really still want to get something from John Dyer baizley to hang in my walls somewhere but his prints are very expensive
I should just figure a way to display the album covers effectively

Maybe I can rig a custom solution of less strips driven by one of my Arduino

I've tried three separate radio apps on my phone and none of them can perform the Herculean task of...receiving an AM radio signal on 2024.
So, I bought a fucking AM radio tuner from Goodwill for...$2.99.
I can now listen to my Vikings!
I have an old radio in the garage too, I should mess with it the next time I'm in there working on arrows or whatever
I got my daughter an iPod and took out the old hard drive and put in an ssd and a new battery. I kinda really want one for myself now.
