I don't mind customization, but I'd rather it be me making a choice from a set of options rather than choosing based on what garbage I find. Skill trees work because I can work towards something, and I know approximately what is going to get me there
Also I want respecs to either be free or not too expensive. It's super nice Wo Long literally lets you respec at no cost. Though the real cost in Wo Long is armor upgrading.
Also free character customization after the initial one is a huge thing missing from too many games.

Also you can change the appearance of any of your equipment to any other item you ever picked up for pocket change! Very nice fashion game. PC version is also performing much better for me after the patch today, just finished a level that was unplayable yesterday.

Any of youse played Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey? Picked it up on sale and holy shit what the fuck.
I've never played anything so openly unfriendly and borderline hostile towards the player but for some reason I can't put it down. EVO was like my favorite SNES game ever so I guess I'm just soft for these evolution games.
Spent the better part of yesterday scouting with my main monkey hominid guy - finally found another settlement and spent a good hour or two leading the rest of my tribe to it. After a lot of total failure I'm finally getting the hang of the game. They give you SO LITTLE to go on (and that's on the full HUD/"tutorial" mode!) but pulling something off like stabbing a tiger or intimidating a giant python enough that it panics and runs into an angry warthog that, moments ago, was my problem and not the snake's, feels amazing.
How the hell did this game get made?! The production quality seems great - the jungle looks amazing and the animations are outstanding. It actually feels more like a living setting than anything I've played in a while.
Ancestors is easily one of my favorite games of all time
doing anything, from crafting to combat, has a weight to it that most games lack. Just making a sharp stick feels like a triumph.
using the different senses to dispel the fear of a specific thing (and also, the fear of the unknown) was an excellent design decision
I doubt there will be a sequel, but I actually want one.
100% with you. With almost everything I play, I have no problem googling for a solution to whatever is stumping me. For the first time in a while, I'm not doing that. Just figuring out the small things is rewarding. Some of it is a little too obtuse - I had to look up how to move a settlement, but the mechanic is actually pretty great. I figured there would be specific sanctuary sites, but it looks like I can build one near any landmark.
Almost made it out of the jungle. It took a while for me to pick it up, but swinging around from the canopy is fun as hell (and easily the fastest and safest way to get around). I will say missing a jump is viscerally scary at times, especially since falling from high enough to kill my monkee results in a pretty brutal cutscene.
The poor guy straight up breaks his neck and spends a few moments dying in agony. Ugh.

Wild hearts had the change your character thing, you had to unlock it down your tree, but once unlocked can flip every slider to whatever you wanted.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
I could see they just don't want to release when redfall and diablo 4 come out, two games that look infinitely better. I mean shit dead island 2 looks better and thats fucking dead island 2.

Tactics game hour 1: wow, cool animations, this feels badass!
Tactics game hour 10: skip all animations and just pop up the result, I beg you!
I've been playing Super Robot Wars and it's very handy that it has the 'show full animations' bit as a checkbox for every attack so you can see all your cool robots do moves you recognize from the anime and go "ooh that's great!" and then turn off the animation forever

Your posts got me really curious, I don't think I've ever heard of this game, so I watched a bit of a playthrough. It kind of looks like Spore but way more complicated?

Kentucky Fried Chicken, purveyor of the world's most famous fried chicken, is collaborating with Blizzard Entertainment to offer fans early beta access to one of the most anticipated games of the year, Diablo IV, the next generation installment in the genre-defining series, which will be released on June 6, 2023.

Ancestors was pretty cool but I could not play without a HUD and I don't understand how anyone could/would. I forgot the button combinations needed to like... eat, because eating a nut was like five steps of holding X while tapping R1 and having to have it in the correct hand.
Then I got a bug that's apparently a known issue where the HUD just sometimes disappears.
I still deeply want to get farther in it though, I basically have been able to roam around as my starter ape and fall out of trees until I get lost and die of dehydration while hiding from a crocodile in a hollowed out log.
Sure makes me glad my own ancestors went through dealing with all of this so that my biggest problems could be video game controls.

you know what, this is great. now a new MMO has to launch with /pizza as a command again
God, this just reminds me of the dumb FFXIV pizza issue, where if you ordered a pizza you got a code for a special emote in FFXIV. However, they somehow ran out of codes but continued the promotion, and people got hosed.
Hehe I don't either, which is what makes stuff like this real bad for me. If I go too heavy on fatty stuff I get real sick because my body doesn't process that shit like it used to. I found that out from a taco bell chicken fried taco that gave me flu like symptoms for a weekend.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Fatty food gives me the poots but not flu symptoms
Unless maybe that's why I always feel kinda gross in general... Too bad everything that tastes good and doesn't leave me hungry all day is full of fat
Anyway is funny still that the basically made this new Diablo look like that necromancers choice meme
It might be! I know it was a lot of eating foods I enjoy full of fat and feeling like shit afterwards that told me maybe not tacos 3 days in a row.
But as the doctor who took my gall bladder from me like the sadist he is... informed me, not everyone has the same issues post surgery, some people don't even notice any dietary changes.

How do you run out of codes?
Was it ever confirmed they ran out of codes? Because I'm one of those who got hosed and they made up all kinds of excuses ranging from running out of codes to not entering the code correctly to it not being guaranteed at all but rather more of a lottery.

Ish, though I only really dipped my toes in Spore. It's absurdly complicated, but I think that's what makes it rewarding.
Plus, it's super relaxing to just sit with my monkey fam by the river and make a pile of sharp ass sticks. Once we have said pile, I can arm my monkeybros with dual wielded pointy sticks, and then we can all squad up and shout at snakes together! Mind you it took me ages and a lot of dead ass monkeys to get to this point, and I feel like I've barely scratched the surface. I've been avoiding spoilers - a rarity for me - so I have no idea how far this thing will go.
Then I got a bug that's apparently a known issue where the HUD just sometimes disappears.
Don't know if this is the same issue, but I thought this happened to me and it turns out for some harebrained reason pressing down on the d-pad removes the hud completely.
Playing this fucking thing without the hud would be damn near masochism in my book but I'm sure it has been done.

also just... robocop is supposed to be a satire on some level, but playing as a hyper violent AI cop who's gunning down people who are homeless, people who are addicted to drugs and people who commit street-level crime is maybe... a bit too close to home, right now
I'm quite baffled with the Gotham delay, because the 3 big criticisms I heard are not easy to fix:
- Why do all the superheroes, including the nearly invincible shark, shoot guns
- Why is all the combat centered around 'shoot the purple goo on enemy / objective'
- Why is this a live service, destiny type game. Noone has succesfully launched one of those, arguably ever (I'd argue even Destiny itself is poorer for what kind of game it is)

suicide squad has been delayed because everyone went "that looks like shit" when the trailer dropped
pleasepaypreacher.net
it's a kart racer now
This would kick ass, admittedly
That would be the only way anyone got me interested in Suicide Squad anything

I mean you can also just preorder to get this same access. Which is probably safer for your gall bladder.

Where do you keep all your gall then?

Truly a match made in hell.
If only I had been in the marketing meetings that set this up, we could have had the Diablo Down!
