The way first man showed the rocket launches from the perspective of the astronauts was staggeringly well done.

RRR wasn't my favorite movie, but it was definitely top five material. Then again, my movies that were up top were movies hardly anyone has ever seen, so...
(Decision To Leave was sent to die with a super limited release, so that's no one's fault but the studio's.)
RRR was a hootin' good time but it was also nationalistic dogma with little to nothing going on thematically and last year was absolutely stuffed with great movies, so putting that at your number one is gonna make me side eye the rest of your list. Shrug emoji.
I was looking into watching RRR, and then digging into how it handles the characters and other stuff was really oooff.

I don't know if I agree with that.
If anything I think RRR's themes are a bit heavy-handed.
I say that as someone who really enjoyed watching it.

All movies where oppressed countries have a folk hero who kills a bunch of British people is pretty good in my book. Same with Woman King.

Everything Everywhere is a really fun movie and I'm glad it is winning awards, but man oh man I'm not sure it's what I would have picked for "Win every award"
I’m not 100% sure how they’d do it but I would love to see Matthew Lillard in a Scream movie again.
Prequel. Get Drew Barrymore there too.
I mean…I guess they could tell the story of Sidney’s mom.
what you gotta do is just go New Nightmare.
Take your meta series even further where its now about the making of the Scream movies. Toss on another level to the Scream/Stab thing. Then you can get your cast reunion but everyone is also playing themselves.
I watched the Luther movie this week. One thing it did successfully was convince me to remove the series from my 'maybe I'll watch it someday' list

I feel like each season of Luther has been so far apart that i’ve completely forgotten everything that happened previously by the time a new one comes out. And that’s definitely true for the movie.
Everything looks beautiful when you're young and pretty
There should be a crossover event where Luther solves crimes with the Devil from that one Fox procedural, they could call the project Lutherfer

Spoonful of Sugar is now streaming on Shudder. Delightfully weird experience
Can't remember the last time a film had both a memorable opening title reveal and a memorable end-credits
I'm happy I'm frontloading my month with stuff that either extremely surprises me (this) or stuff I've been really looking forward to (Scream 6). In general, and because due to extremely unfortunate circumstances my month is ending with me seeing the new Children of the Corn, and I need all the happiness I can get before that
So yeah, a friend gave me a bet/deathwish that I should marathon all of the Children of the Corns by or soon after Tuesday the 21st, when the new one is available on VOD

Does he still do the thing where he SUDDENLY SHOUTS his lines, then goes quiet for a bit, AND THEN LOUD AGAIN?
It's been ages, so I might be unfair to Elba, but I remember his acting being the kind that makes you go, "yes, that man is trying very hard to act". And not necessarily succeeding at it

I tried Luther for a few episodes and Elba is fun to watch, but (as with a lot of shows in the genre) I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough to buy the sheer number of serial killers all living and operating in one city.
The only movie that Chazelle has directed that I thought was any good was First Man.
First Man was good but took a lot of liberties with the space program which kinda bugged me, but I get it was mostly in service of making the program look slapped together and scrappier than we are used to seeing (ain’t no way the rockets were that friggin filthy).
But man, the way he shot that Gemini launch was Pacha dot gif.

I couldn't even make it past the first episode with the killer that he claims is a sociopath because she doesn't yawn when he does.

That is still his prime mode of acting in the movie, yes. There is also Gollum Andy Serkis as the villain getting the results of being very clever without showing him doing anything clever.
The main theme of the movie, though, is that this cop (who constantly does crimes) gets sent to prison for his crimes. Without him hurting people and committing crimes, the bad guys are able to hurt people and commit crimes. It's really refreshing to see the positive side of police brutality.

I thought Idris Elba and his charisma are the only reasons to watch the show, because the plot is awful, the characters are miserable, and its copaganda where the cops are corrupt as fuck but it still plays it like they are good guys.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Pics from Renfield (and specifically Nicolas Cage's performance in it) are starting to come out in anticipation of its theater release next month, and I've gotta say this has moonrocketed to my second-most anticipated film of the year
I watched that new Puss in Boots movie since it's now on Peacock.
Even having heard all the positive things about it, I was still blown away by how great it was.
Fantastic animation, great voice cast and a fucking all time antagonist.

Just finished up A Wounded Fawn and absolutely loved it.
I really don't want to say anything about this one, if you like horror movies and have Shudder, just go check it out. I might write up further thoughts on it tomorrow but I went in with no real knowledge of it and I think that's the best way to do it.
Although plausible-deniability fictional, some people prefer it to The Big Short for that GFC itch-scratching.
It got an Academy nomination for original screenplay and boasts a broad ensemble you'd expect for a 10-year-old movie (unfortunately including Kevin Spacey).

Ehh, by some standards, "most" this year would consider EEAAO to be the best movie, so they're more right than usual.
I guess if you use "most" as filmgoers in general, they probably would say something like Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar 2, or Black Panther 2 though.

you can't make another sequel after that though.
I dunno if that'd work, it'd require Luther to have a plot.

Starring Dacre Montgomery from Stranger Things
No word on if it will use any real footage like the originals or if it will just be all faked found footage.
