I've probably been the "not surprised" guy many times in my life, but yeah, looking back "I'm not surprised" is like one of the least useful things one can say. It's barely a step above just going "Told ya so" which also a really useless statement.
I'm gonna try to excise that behavior from my life.
I would posit that it is much worse to be professionally "not surprised" for money than it is to be "not surprised" for free because you're tired and can recognize that dipshits will never ever stop doing dipshitted things.
At this point, I'd like to be surprised, because it would mean that a dipshit has finally done something worthwhile and not-dipshitted and not howdy would that make my fucking day.
I would like to apologize to Halli for my misunderstanding of his situation. It was based on things I was told that were untrue or, in some cases, true, but not meaningful.

Amazing to see Musk go from "haha, I am dunking on you for sucking so much" to "I am sorry. Please don't sue me" in a day
Musk buying into Carlson’s latest bullshit to spin the footage from January 6 is hilarious because like, looking at that footage, it doesn’t actually establish anything about Jan6 being peaceful, it just adds more to what we already knew about that day (which, incidentally, got memory holed hard in favor for the Pro-Cop push the democrats have been doing in the two years following it): That plenty of Capital Police officers didn’t just fail to do anything about the Putsch, but actively facilitated the putsch itself.
Like, hey, remember Selfie Cop? Cause that was a thing! You know, just as a barrage of fashy White Rioters go and storm the capitol building you just, say, buddy up to them and take a selfie with them as they do it.
Musk has an infuriating way of treating actions he took on his own of his own volition as some kind of act of god that no one could have forseen. Like Elon you did that, you tweeted that, no one made you do anything of it.

The lightspeed, no-hesitation pivot from his cultists has been to, "Wow, look how humble he is for apologizing after making a mistake, he's even better than we thought, anyone who stays mad at him for this is just a hater"
They will resist any and every offramp from "Cheering on a dipshit asshole," it's truly incredible

Billionaire Idiot Supreme admits that communication website he idiotically paid 44 billion dollars for is “bad for communication,” recommends “just talking instead.”
Everything looks beautiful when you're young and pretty
It never gets old he spent 44 billion on twitter and this is what he got up to with it. Like anyone could categorically say twitter has been worse since he bought it, and he's only made it worse everyday. Like devauled his already massively over priced buy in.

I swear to god, it’s like there’s this whole thing where you base your entire personality so fully on one thing—a movie, a comic book, a video game, a dipshit billionaire who would step on your face without a second thought—that you eventually feel like you have to constantly shift your every opinion to line up with the thing you like or you’re somehow a fool. You have to be all in or all out. With us or against us. You can’t just say “yeah, Star Wars is mostly cool” or “Billionare X seems pretty smart”. You have to be a take-no-prisoners hardliner and don’t even think about nuance. That shit is for losers. And if that means your own internal consistency is shot to Swiss cheese because you’re constantly mirroring someone else, well, at least you’re consistent in how much you love Dear Leader.

There's a dark underside to that as well, where you can acknowledge this thing that was such a big part of your life is now too toxic to continue to enjoy. So you drop it, but the emptiness you feel afterwards sucks if you don't have anything to replace it or redirect those feelings.
It's not hard to see why they cling to it so deeply. The alternative is basically realizing how little you actually have in your life, and that's a real shitty feeling.
During the short teacher strike nearby in Haverhill MA, which was technically illegal, I overhead so many people saying shit like "Well they shouldn't have become teachers if they wanted good pay" and blaming them because kids wouldn't be able to go to school and they didn't have anyone to watch them, and so on and so forth.
This story doesn't really go anywhere, I just get angry when I think about how pervasive the culture of hating workers is in this shit hole country.
To add to this, the thing that actually enrages me is when those same people who say "well they shouldn't have become teachers if they wanted good pay" get absolutely apoplectic when said teachers quit en masse (so there aren't enough teachers to cover classes) or do something to try and get that pay (so there aren't enough teachers to cover classes) and the resulting quality of public services deteriorates. There is an absolutely horrific attitude of "you should slave away at hard work for me and fuck you for wanting something better" pervasive in American culture and it sickens me.
When someone says "X is a calling", what they're really saying is "I am going to try to shame you into taking less money for X."

"Once again, I have made a complete ass-biscuit of myself by snarking and memeing about shit I don't understand for way too long in order to score points with my Twitter peanut gallery.
No one could have seen this coming, and we should all admire me for how maturely I am dealing with it.
It will most definitely happen again, possibly by tomorrow."
If I was his lawyer, I'd be breaking a window because a thirty story drop would be easier to manage than this asshole.
Surely there has to be something freeing about knowing from go that there is no way you're going to win a lawsuit.
"Oh yeah I'm defending Elon Musk but he keeps destroying his own life and is too stupid to even understand what a good defense is so I just go through the motions and if I lose who cares?"
yeah all his fans are "wow look at the bravery for him to do this all on his own with absolutely no prompting, just leaderly humility and introspection" when it's so very obviously when the bully's mom finds out and drags him in front of his victim by the ear to apologize
It's almost frightening to see how severely humans can embody cognitive dissonance to such an extreme degree WITHOUT ill effect from having themselves at odds with reality
Elon Musk is such a deeply terrible person even as a kid when another kid hospitalized him, his dad was like fair enough the kid almost killing my son had a point
Always a taxing thing to be reminded of the existence of Matt Yglesias. One of those things where I feel like I'm owed a crisp five dollar bill when it happens. Not necessarily from anyone, but I should find it as some minor course correction of the universe. I think everyone is owed this.

“My taxes, which I hate paying, pay your salary, which is too high and bloated for the small amount of work you do taking care of my child, who I would never consider quitting my own job for to educate and care for because it’s too much work and you couldn’t pay me enough to want to do it.
What? No, I don’t find anything inconsistent about that, why do you ask?”

I don't know how anyone went through the pandemic where we had to look after our children without being able to get help for months on end and came through it saying teachers/daycare workers get paid too much. Fuck we are getting that shit for a steal.

Ten dollar bill if it's Jesse Singal.
