I will say it's weird to focus so much on this one particular shithead, because nothing in that excerpt is out of step with hundreds of other shitheads just like her. What we're doing is proving that she's a shithead to people that already kinda thought she was a shithead, and also making other shitheads think she's brave for continuing to be a shithead in the face of adversity.

She finally embarrassed herself by going on an MSNBC punditry show to promote her book about “woke politics” and then, when prompted by the host to “Define woke” could not do it to save her life and just stammered for about half a minute straight.
It will ultimately have no reprecussions as to whether or not her opinions still hold sway with the ruling class of the country, and so far has only served to reinforce their love of her because despite all their claims to rationality and reason and other such intellectual facades their entire operation is all just a masturbatory exercise in reaffirming their already shitty beliefs about the marginalized and lower classes
In other words Bethany Mandel is a functionary in system that effectively creates bullshit excuses for why the larger socioeconomic systems we live under must continue to operate as they have, despite the incalculable cruelties and exploitations required to keep them in operation.
In a world where Omelas’ prosperity is founded not upon simply torturing one child, but entire nations, she is one of the people who demand you respect the torture and madness, and tells the those in charge of the machine that they must be crueler to the fuel.

I can see the value (if there is any at all) in us critiquing Elon Musk's dogshit tweets in the Twitter thread. He's the owner of the business! He's also the second wealthiest* person on the planet. He is, regrettably, somebody with mass influence on our society (arguably on several).
But I continue to see no real use in dragging in the trash of this... Pundit? Who is this person and why should I care about their garbage beliefs? Because they influence our society on a macro level? I guess?
Ultimately I am issuing a protest against these particular dead birds brought upon my doorstep.
Again, though, that really doesn't do much to explain why we need updates on this specific woman. Again: she sucks! I don't like her! Because her writing is representative of the current state of “anti-woke” political thought, and the excerpt there about “normalcy” is a useful and evocative example of that mindset which sees any deviation from a white supremacist assimilationist politic (queer lives, POC lives, etc) as socially destructive.
The passage isn’t something to simply “dunk on” but is an encapsulation of the present political moment that threatens the lives and wellbeing of countless innocent people who do not fit within this fantasy reality that has more to do with an idealized 1950s white family structure than it does the experiences, needs or wants of any actual living person or lived experience of today.
Reading writing like this is useful in understanding the fascist mode of thought in America, and the way it couches itself in benign and desirable values (“family,” “loyalty,” “being above ideology”) so as to be palatable for the mainstream.

I look at the state of the country right now where people like me are being made illegal in state after state, while the federal government sits around with one hand’s thumb up its ass, the other giving out hand jobs to an industry that’s literally making this planet uninhabitable for billions of life forms because that’s where the fuckin’ money’s at, and a President at the head of that government talking about how his party’s embracing too many “extremes” that he fails to elaborate upon while in the same speech talking about how we need to be able to work with the party that is actively sharpening their knives and tying together nooses for their next big pogrom, and then I see an excerpt from a relatively mainstream white-passing author, one currently making the press tour rounds on major media networks for the book that excerpt is from, talking about how the big problem society is facing is “woke” ideology that threatens the nuclear family and wants to put divisions between said members of the nuclear family and I can’t help but go “ah, there’s another piece of poison that’s gonna filter it’s way through the halls of power in this country and slowly and steadily build a climate within it that is going to want to either make me and mine dead or at least stand back to let more extreme bastards go and make us dead.”
And maybe I just want to talk about that in some way or at least hear someone else go “yeah that’s pretty fucked” to feel for just a moment a little less alone in a third space I’ve occupied for years as the larger space we all inhabit becomes more and more hostile and our society just kind of lets it happen because on a macro level the halls of power have steadily dismantled our collective responses against its ability to abuse and exploit us, especially the most marginalized, and the past three years have been a stark resurgence in its efforts to do so since the 2020 BLM protests scared the fuckin’ shit out of them that they hadn’t fully finished the job and some of those sparks remained, so they had to redouble the efforts at recreating “normalcy”
