Noob needs chord theory help!!!

Very simple chord, but I couldn't find an actual name for it online. Notes are C E A C
e|-----8-----
B|-----10----
G|-----9-----
D|-----10---
A|-----------
E|-----------

I wanted to call it C6 but that means it requires the 5th. This chord contains the Root, 3rd, 6th so I guess it's like a C6 but without the 5th. Or am I way off and probably should study chord theory construction more :P

So whats this chord called, if anything?

Taco Bell does win the franchise war according to the tome of knowledge that is Demolition Man. However, I've watched Demolition Man more then a few times and never once did I see WoW. In conclusion Taco Bell has more lasting power then WoW.

ahhh damnit, I was just thinking how it could be an A chord but since i'm so used to the root being at the top (bottom?).

    Thanks!

If you had a strong C root you could see it as C6, but if you play it straight it has a pretty strong minor tonality.

In general if you have to cut an interval out of a chord, it's going to be the fifth because it's such a colourless interval (obviously altered fifths are an exception) so don't worry too much about whether the fifth is in a chord.

That just it and what drew me to it was it seemed to carry a strong minor tone to it and it felt moveable as well across the fretboard.

Looking at some Inversion theory (link), they claim that "A chord with the notes 3 - 5 - 1 is a chord in first inversion." So the C E A triad truly does fit the A minor 1st inversion which apparently is what I built?

Well chords can always go by different names as well.

    Thanks for the quick responses.

Add in either the A on the A string 12th fret or C on the 10th fret of the bottom E depending on whether you want it to sound major or minor

I have a thumb for the C and sufficient grasp of common sense to leave off the superfluous top note for the A minor
