After spending the weekend playing A LOT of RE4 remake, I decided to also play some original flavor RE4.
I don't think they did a good job on the mouse and keyboard controls for the HD edition. There are some miscellaneous buttons that can't be rebound that are complete nonsense. The map zooms in and out with Page Up and Insert. To move inventory items you press Backspace and Page Down and Delete rotates the items. The QTEs use buttons that aren't used for anything else. I got to the lake monster and the aiming for the harpoon throwing was extremely sensitive. I'd barely nudge the mouse and the crosshair flew off to the side of the screen. I guess at least it's not the 2007 PC version.
The game itself is still good, but stopping to shoot and tank controls take some getting used to. I do wish I could switch weapons without having to pause the game and that picking up small items like ammo and money didn't trigger fullscreen popups.
One thing I did not expect to be significantly different between the original and remake is that the camera is a lot closer to Leon in the original and it is immediately noticeable.
I can tell you with full confidence, having worked with a good number of them, that many of the execs and project managers who make these kinds of decisions on company focus and direction at NVIDIA are dumb as rocks and easily swayed by shiny things. Especially if they can find suckers to buy up shitloads of GPUs without having to put much effort into it.
I would have a certain amount of professional respect for a company only touching buzzword business trends enough to make money off the short term of it, but planning on orderly pivoting away when that market inevitably crashes. The system itself is dumb and you gotta play into the dumb to succeed. Instead these folks in charge of business decisions become true believers seeing these investments as eternally growing profit vehicles and any investment in other things is a waste.
Our system really isn’t built to let folks have reasonable or principled positions on trends.
Welcome to the World of Modern Emulation
Dolphin Emulator is your one-way ticket to nostalgia if you're looking to relive classics from the big N's cube-shaped and motion controlled consoles. Return to an era of gaming before the advent of microtransactions and experience a diverse library of thousands of titles that were released for these consoles over a span of 15+ years. Dolphin Emulator allows these classic games to be reborn into the modern era with support for 4K displays, modern controllers, and much, much more. All of this, fully Open Source and free to download.
How Does It Work?
Dolphin Emulator creates a virtual environment on your device that is capable of running games originally developed for two of the Big N's revolutionary consoles. However, Dolphin itself does not provide any of the games. It is just a tool to run legally obtained copies of these games. Once you have dumped copies of your games into a compatible format, you can launch them directly in the emulator.
And these graphics are INSANE!
Interesting to see Dolphin make it's way to Steam, so long after RetroArch. They say it will be Early Access because they want to work on features for the Steam version like "better Steam integration and a more streamlined UI for Steam Deck users."
The newest features in Steam rely on an embedded version of Google Chrome, which no longer functions on older versions of Windows. In addition, future versions of Steam will require Windows feature and security updates only present in Windows 10 and above.
+1

Finished chapter 12 in RE4 and this is probably my favorite cutscene so far.
I'm glad that that the worry people had about them taking the game too seriously was totally unfounded, and you can legit argue the remake is even more cheesy than the original just by the increased amount of corny shit Leon spits.
they certainly made the lake area bigger in this one

I remember playing Socrates Jones on Newgrounds like, more than a decade ago. What a weird game to get a paid steam release now; it's basically a super short Phoenix Wright game that's vaguely educational about different philosophical lines of thought.

At Apple, Rare Dissent Over a New Product: Interactive Goggles
The company is expected to unveil an augmented reality headset in a few months. Some employees wonder if the device makes sense for Apple.
But now, as the company prepares to introduce the headset in June, enthusiasm at Apple has given way to skepticism, said eight current and former employees, who requested anonymity because of Apple’s policies against speaking about future products. There are concerns about the device’s roughly $3,000 price, doubts about its utility and worries about its unproven market.
The headset looks like ski goggles. It features a carbon fiber frame, a hip pack with battery support, outward cameras to capture the real world and two 4K displays that can render everything from applications to movies, two of the people said. Users can turn a “reality dial” on the device to increase or decrease real-time video from the world around them.
That has to be the dorkiest thing since google glasses
I know this was 2 days ago, which can feel like an eternity, but I just got re-annoyed with this because…
There’s no built in calculator app on iPads. The reason for this is apple said they didn’t just want to make one that was a blown up version of the phone app. They’d only make one if they could “innovate” on it to make it worth developing.
I know it would make any money-graphs go up (thus making it useless) but I can guarantee that a built in calculator app would get a lot more use than a friggin set of goggles.
Get an introduction to Link’s new abilities in this gameplay demonstration of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom presented by series producer, Eiji Aonuma.
I played Breath on the Wii U. The gamepad honestly made the shrines with the tilt a ball puzzles much easier since I could literally flip the entire floor upside down and roll the ball with no obstacles
Nintendo really do only release main series Zelda games at the end of their console's life cycle, huh.
Breath of the Wild was a Switch launch title.
It was cross gen on wiiu
yeah it was originally a wii u title, but development went long and then they decided to use it as a switch launch title too because the wii u didn't set the world on fire
Yeah, Breath of the Wild was absolutely a WiiU game originally; even if it hadn't been announced as one, the presence of a item analogous to the WiiU tablet would be a big giveaway.

I assume Tears of the Kingdom is gonna get similar treatment. Its been 6 years of the Switch. If a successor is coming soon (this holiday season or early next year), they'll make a next gen version of the game for it.
I'm glad that that the worry people had about them taking the game too seriously was totally unfounded, and you can legit argue the remake is even more cheesy than the original just by the increased amount of corny shit Leon spits.
Haven't played myself but all the vids I've watched have made it far more serious. Even deliveries of comical lines lose the same fun they had.
*shrug* I'll just stick to my nostalgic original then, but do have fun

I'm in love with KCD environments. The wilderness is so lush and detailed, and forests feel properly big and wild.
I got beaten unconscious by an angry drunk, again, so I've just been walking around in the woods picking flowers to make myself feel better. It's so peaceful.

I dunno why I thought they wouldn't do that
Still the best depiction of these people

wasn't that the chud-hole white national game?
I bet I could get all kinds of useful charms from this thing, except I did every course once and then left because it sucks
When you do a new game plus you can do the shooting courses again for charms, but like my god why would you unless you hate yourself?
