If you can get past the Tom Clancy as all hell story, The Division is a good open world shooty gadget numbers go up series. 2 is still being supported with seasonal releases
Oh yeah, Wildlands I also felt was a pretty good open world shooter, with a similar reservation towards the storyline. At times it feels like part of the writing staff wanted to start leaning in to start satirizing it, but it always pulls back into playing it straight US war machine propaganda. I really liked it when it's giving you flashy super-well produced run down on the almost Saint's Row level villains, but it's real hard to recommend when it always comes back to "now let's torture them to get more intel".
But then on the other hand you can dress your squad up like the predator.

Wasn't someone just saying in here that they were disappointed that they couldn't play Half-Life Alyx? You can now play it without VR.
Started Everspace 2 on gamepass. Oh no, free exploration space games are my drug, I'm going to end up subscribing for more than one month I can tell right now.
Honestly Origins made me sad I couldn't visit the Egypt of the game, like that's entirely "wow this must have been beautiful before man fucked a lot of it up" that is pretty much everywhere, but Egypt specifically looks like before modern society got there it must have been quite a thing
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Ark Dev Backtracks On Upgrade Plans And Cancels Bundle: "Not Our Best Move"
The Ark Respawned Bundle has been cancelled.
Ark developer Studio Wildcard has backtracked on some of its plans for the future of the dinosaur-survival game series following what the studio said was "passionate" feedback about a bundle.
The biggest change, the studio confirmed in a blog post, is that the Ark Respawned Bundle is getting cancelled entirely. This Xbox-only bundle would have included Ark Survival Ascended and Ark 2, and the intent was to offer players a package that gave them "two products for the price of one," Studio Wildcard said. However, the studio said with the benefit of hindsight, it sees that this was "not the best move," so the bundle is being scrapped entirely
Anyway, I've been fucking around with oxygen not included dlc finally.
It's interesting! A bit frustrating in the way ONI/sim games often are when you're trying to figure out how the hell you Do Thing. But still fun. I'm currently trying to figure out generating enough radiation to do the research I need, while clearing out a chunk of space to actually create a SPOM of some kind. The food situation is at least finally sorted, so that's nice

Remember to factor in cooling your base to progress otherwise you're going to start running your more advanced machines and cooking your peeps alive
When it comes to immersive sims, some folks here have mentioned the modern Deus Ex games, which I also agree with. Human Revolution and Mankind Divided are both super cool with some fun powers and lots to explore, especially MD's hub area of Prague.
However, I think also that if you want to go back a ways, the original Deus Ex is still quite good. I played it in college, about 10-11 years ago, so I didn't exactly play it when it was new, but I still felt it was pretty playable, The combat is dogshit but you can get around that with stealth or with mods I'm sure. It still has a pretty cool story, lots of neat environments to explore, some really cool choices/alternate quest paths you can take, it's neat.

Oh, I'm an old hand at ONI. I know!
Also in this case I'm on a rime map - I've had too install heating loops just to keep some plants Alive and stop various places (like the critter evolver) from freezing over. Just basic tepidizer in the water storage tank hooked to a temp sensor to help the water at a comfy 23c type stuff
Heat will be a problem.... Eventually, but there's a pile of nearly -100c oxygen at the base of the map I'm going unleash soon, so you know. Heat ain't an issue yet.
And before it'll be an issue I'll have cracked getting enough research to start building aquatuners and having cooling loops setup.
I've been having a bunch of fun with Symphony of War recently. It's a Fire Emblem alike that does a good job of mixing things up by having you create squads out of individual units that all level up and class change and such on their own. It's a little bit less well-crafted in terms of controls than I think it should be, mostly in that you tend to want to both be thinking "who in the whole army is the best option to make X class?" while also thinking "how should I edit this squad to make them most effective while still leveling up some stuff I may want later?" and there's not really an easy way to juggle things other than constantly swapping between screens. And it's just fundamentally fun to have so much distributed progress happening. Every battle involves a dozen level-ups, and then you have the tech tree to work through and the marketplace has stuff between each battle, it's very generous.
Are there any other like Ogre Battle/Fire Emblem games people would recommend on PC? I feel like nothing has come close to the perfection of Into the Breach for me in terms of tactics games recently, but it's fun playing something less honed and perfect and more sprawling.
I don't think I ever best the original Deus Ex but I did beat the Deus Ex mod where you're like, a retired forum moderator coming back into cyberspace to solve the mystery of a forum murder like 10 times.

I made a, "Hi, I'm new here!" post here in SE++ back in like 2002 and got absolutely murdered for it. Good times
In AC Origins there's a fight with a war elephant, and my wife was so horrified by the death animation of the elephant that now, anytime I'm playing a third-person action game of any kind, she asks me, "Is this one of your elephant murdering games?"

Might I recommend the Sunglasses At Night Deus Ex walkthrough? It doesn't have enough screenshots to be regarded as a proper Let's Play, but it is certainly written more in the style of one than a normal walkthrough.
The large adult man who is Layton's rival manages to disguise himself as the teenage girl Layton has been entrusted with the care of. It takes most of the game for his mask to come off.
I think the main plot involved hallucinogens?
Third game
In order to fool everyone to think they're in the future, a couple builds their clocktower into a giant elevator that takes them to an enormous subterranean cavern completely with a replica of "future" London in it. IIRC, they even hire an actor to play "Old Luke".
The Layton games are batshit insane.
Second Layton game is
Gas Leak ending, like most of the main setting, and maybe the people? are a hallucination.
I respect the absurdity of the franchise, but that twist I hate.
Also the fifth game (my favourite) is set in a desert city
in the United Kingdom
I played through the first three again recently on ipad, and the ending of Unwound Future, even knowing what was coming, just, . . . oof
I didn't like 4/5/6 as much as the first three, the plots felt like they were getting a bit out of hand, but Layton Brothers is fun, and Katrielle+Millionaires Conspiracy is also worth a look.
Yeah, Future is a gut punch, I can still replay that tearjerker line in my head even now.
Emmy was a big part of why I enjoy the prequel trilogy, I hope she returns in the new one. Also Miracle Mask is one of my favourite uses of 3D on the 3DS, even moving between areas was cool.
I wanted to like Katrielle but it was a bit too simple design wise for me so I fell off it, never did play Layton Brothers.

I'm really looking forward to FFXV, I but I don't think I want to see another 20 minutes of it. We've seen an awful lot, save some surprises for release!

Getting started with BATTLETECH: Part 1 / Part 2
it's one of the weird Square Enix IPs that didn't get sold to Embracer Group
but Avalanche is currently making games for Microsoft directly, so it seems like a weird swerve, and JC4 didn't sell or review all that well
