Anyone ever find it kind of weird that the name in Christendom that practically rivals Jesus’ own just also happens to be a “former” religion-cop whose entire story sounds suspiciously like what an undercover cop would say to embed himself in a newly developing Hellenistic cult?
thats... kinda a mischaracterization of what happened, but yes various groups frequently question pauls influence
also, to be clear, paul was the one that helenized it
james the just and saint jude along with the disciples were heavily anti-roman and predominately ministered to jews, at least initially, paul went to the gentiles
to be clear, from a Rabbinical/Pharisaic Jewish historiographical standpoint, even the nascent Hebrew Christians themselves were Hellenized Hebrews in a few senses, in the sense that they were culturally somewhat secularized by Greek crossover culture (not necessarily secular by modern standards but definitely by Second Temple Era standards)
Notably these are the same Hellenic Christians that the Maccabees from that Rugrats episode were a reactionary movement against
I would just like to raise a point of order that, while I too learned of it from there as a kid, that we are describing the Maccabees in relation to being that thing which the Rugrats talked about
Not a complaint but I think we need to stop for a second and acknowledge this.

this is the first time in months I've seen a lot of discussion of the beast that didn't include a debate about the morality of charity for popularity

Lanz I will have you know that while I *am* doing a bit of a bit with that, I did unironically slip into typing out Maccababies before correcting myself
Matthias was the apostle who replaced Judas. It's also the name of the first hero in the redwall series. I'm Catholic and had to choose a saint for confirmation. I might have stealth chosen the sword weilding mouse.

At this point in my life I'd pick Jude.
Patron saint of lost causes.

throughout my life, I've lost things, both literally and metaphorically, and I'd always toss a little "hey just in case you're real and listening, I could use some help, Tony." out there and everything works out which is either divine influence or luck, six of one, half dozen of the other.

The Rugrats was extremely Jewish and very proud of it and a lot of millennials did not really realize that
Not a criticism or argument against that, but the vast majority of "millennials" in the world wouldn't really be particularly aware of Jewish traits, customs, etc. That's pretty local to a few places.
Not where I expected the 60 new posts to go today...
That's an evergreen post.

I learned about both Passover and Hanukkah from rugrats!

Oh my god, even remembering the special somehow that is a Layer of memory that was sealed away tight until I read this
And, oddly, is the thing that reminded me that the Weinerville Hannukah Special was a thing that existed.
…Nickelodeon was surprisingly useful in introducing major Jewish holidays to non-Jewish kids in our generation, huh.

Is that a christian-based version of Beauty and the Beast?
I can't connect that to the ending though
Do I have an hour long video for you! https://youtu.be/ZK4gM7RC1M0
The really beautiful thing about it is while I was watching it I forgot what I was watching and was surprised by Simba being crucified. Even though I had read a YouTube comment before watching it from someone who said they did the same thing.

Redwall
The "corn" in cornflower refers to corn as in grain, not corn as in maize.

He just like you frfr
yeah, one prent should be enough, ink isn't free
I thought it was just about eating ham and Cadbury eggs
It's about watching Critters 2 (The Main Course); the prime Easter movie.
And eating eggs, sure.
But mainly, it's a Crite-based celebration.
I did watch critters two a week or so ago!
Quality puppets in that movie

Fun other fictional Mathiases:
Spoiler: That’s Dracula’s Castlevania origin
Also voiced by Crispin Freeman, so that’s two separate incarnations from about the same time he played Dracula (the other being Alucard in Hellsing)
I can't connect that to the ending though
Yeah; for some reason there’s a trend in churches these days to just… outright take major corporate IP and turn them into Passion Plays.

it's one specific church jenny is obsessed with because how insanely hard they go with the plays
Finally, ABC News will be recognized as state propaganda
CBC and CBC News don't have this tag yet
But that would involve Elon Musk knowing Canada exists and frankly I'm not sure he does
Probably assumed Grimes fell out of a computer
